I think the best move would be Knight to g3 since doesn’t allow the queen to checkmate and the pawn can take the queen if the queen takes the knight. Another move would also be Rook to e4 as it blocks the bishop and the queen defends the rook since it can capture the bishop if it takes the rook.

Wait a minute: if you "give" the fork with the Knight, it wont be possible for the black queen to check mate... Not only that but then white queen will be very close to check mate the Black King And if it was Black to move, then white had to move something before this position

Well hold on now, this is basically a puzzle, and puzzles are always set up so that you're seeing the board from the perspective of the player's whose move it is. So we already knew whose move it was, at least according to that.

He asked what the *first* thing I saw was, so I went with the fork. The moment he said "you just proved my point," I saw the black mate. Didn't worry about it since I had a check though. I paused before he made his move on the next position, and was scared of Qg1+ :)
