The People's Court

3 жыл бұрын

The plaintiff says the defendant’s dog almost killed her dog, and her pup needed 30 stitches on her neck and ear to survive. She claims the defendant is willing to cover half the vet cost, but she’s suing for the whole bill. The defendant says the incident happened out of the blue and neither dog is at fault.

@@Bb-nq9cs pitbulls are predisposed towards aggression due to decades of aggressive-trait and low tolerance breeding. That doesn't mean that every pitbull will attack and kill, but it does mean that pitbulls have a GREATER likelihood of attacking and killing. Pitbulls are responsible for 70% of fatal attacks. I know she sees these cases every day, but I don't like when people spread the rumors about pit bulls latching on 'more than other breeds'. It isn't true. What IS true is that they are strong dogs and if you can't control your dog, you shouldn't be in a dog park. It's always a shih tzu or something that gets attacked. Pit bulls are loyal and protective of their owners and their space. So many people are not cautious enough around dogs they don't know. I've even had people stick their hand inside my car window while I was sitting in a parking lot with my pit bull to pet them. What the world?

Disagree with the judge on this one. - dogs bark, it’s natural and you can’t really stop it - not all dogs attack others as a result of a bark That incident a few months ago isn’t just a standard ‘dogs will be dogs’, I think it’s enough to concern the pitbull owner that her dog overreacts. Subsequently, I think it’s on her to do something/anything to mitigate that happening again. Train it, warn others, keep a big of a distance and shorten the leash when very close to others, or muzzle it while on walks. I hope she at least does some of these things now, but sort of expect she won’t.

I’ve got a small breed Yorkiepoo . The only dogs I allow to approach her and check her out are dogs her own size . If a dog is quite bigger than man I don’t allow contact . Dog owners must practice common sense . If a smaller dog like mine hooks up with a dog her own size that happens to be aggressive it’s a situation I can handle swiftly and effectively . I NEVER AT ANY TIME LET A LARGE DOG CHECK OUT MY TINY DOG . I even pick up my do weather she’s on the leash or not when I see a big dog approaching us and I walk away with my dog letting the other dog owner promptly to please don’t let your dog approach us. I schedule play dates with small breed dog owners for our dogs to play with each other and we never meet in dog parks. Our little tiny dogs meet together on private fenced yards . Haven’t had a problem so far with this routine .

The problem is people incorrectly think the parks are for exercise when they are for "socializing". If they all followed the Cesar Millan method (since 2005) of walking your dog outside the park for 20 minutes to calm down the excitement then bring them in the park there wouldn't be as many problems. Most dog owners just bring them in all high energy running all over and that's when the other calmer dogs converge on it to meet and calm it down. You might get lucky and they work it out or there's a scuffle/fight.

Anybody else a pitbull owner and everytime you hear a case like this and you think "well of course it's a pitbull". My Linus is such a goofy thing and is such the sweetest dog. He gets bullied by my 5 pound kitten. Even knowing all that I have to admit he is unnaturally strong. He is also very territorial and would protect me at all costs. I think as owners of certain breeds we just need to err on the side of caution. Like the judge says we don't punish the dogs, we have to punish the owners. It just breaks my heart when I hear of a dog having to be put down for something like protecting his/ her owners or their territory.
@bccc6745

Wow. She should've been responsible for that. If your dog has any form of incident with another dog or a history of attacking, nipping, snapping, or growling it should always be on the owner to say "Sorry my dog isn't friendly" or something along the line. And keep it away. Pitbulls are genetically predisposed to be aggressive with other dogs. It's literally in the breed standard. Pitbull owners are such a problem with denying aggression in these dogs.

I disagree..the Judge said the texts got nasty...the defendant agreed to pay half and the plaintiff refused and demanded the whole amount. Both dogs were on leashes so the defendant is not legally liable. I understand about keeping the peace, but that could have been achieved by the plaintiff accepting half of the vet bill and just moving on w/ life.
