A drill press can be really helpful when working on PCBs and prototypes. Sadly, the chuck tends to fall off - a problem one can solve easily by eliminating vibration.

Thank you for the explanation and schematic as to how the chuck is attached at the factory, and the lack of engineering (vs. brute force). It explains a lot.

I feel for you, you're doing such a good job and then try so hard to speak clearly. I have difficulty to hear anyone anyway but this help me a lot. I did not realise it was the vibration just thought it came out of place some how and wanted to learn a little about it. My drill press is 'el cheapo' from BMC I think, about $100 AU some 15 20 years ago and has done a lot of small job. And I know a lot about trying to speak English like a native! Yes for some not that easy even after 50 years 'down under! Thanx again

Thanks for sharing, I got the same problem with my new drill press 16mm just a month ago and very disappointed as the chuck fall off at first test, I re-installed by using wooden mallet hit upward and still fallen off and I would do as Jusb 1066 advised.

Loctite definitely helps too...but what if you want to exchange the chuck?

I also found out that when drilling a still pipe if you don't have a good clamping device on your press drill, you're better off put your pipe on a vice and use a hand held drill, even cordless! This could also explain the undue vibration that lead to chuck falling

@@meeekstubbular sorry for not writing more. But I am incredibly overworked at the moment. Hopefully, I have my new lab in March...then I can make videos with the big machines, too.

I would suggest "pan head" screws for attachment of the metal legs to the table. The surface of a pan head screw, on the side of the threads, is flat so that the entire area of the screw head is in contact with the base of the leg. The equivalent surface of the wood screw is tapered away from the base of the leg leaving only a small fraction of the area of the screw head in contact with the leg base.

Big thanks for your feedback, man. I have to admit I just picked four screws which I had laying around...but the idea makes sense, Ill replace them some time!

Often, this is solved by cleaning all of the tapers with a solvent before installation. Something that few hobby users do.

Hello, what do you mean by hell saw?
@jusb10667 жыл бұрын
red loctite it, it will never fall off
@MrTamhan7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but then the drill press chuck also can never be removed. And I have the uncomfortable feeling that my chuck will die long before the rest of my press ;(
@jusb10667 жыл бұрын
it only needs 200c to release red locite, not very much , will not destroy the parts
@MrTamhan7 жыл бұрын
Hello, that sounds like an idea - I need to try it. But: the chuck didnt fall out ever since ;) Tam
@jusb10667 жыл бұрын
i had to do that on my drill press, the chuck has always fallen off due to the bad tolerance of taper and chuck, i finally had to do it or drill press was wasted, it has not fallen off in over a year now, drill press works great for the first time in 30 years!

Nothing beats a working drill press ;). BTW: i have some more videos on drill press (PCB cutting with it) and CNC routers upcoming. So please, feel free to hit the subscribe button ;)

You need to do a voice over, and not show your face in videos... they are both unpleasant
