Double board-certified OBGYN and REI, Dr. Natalie Crawford, discusses the "post birth control pill syndrome" and answers a common question: Do you need to do a "cleanse" or "detox" when you stop taking birth control. Not everybody needs to be on the pill. It is one option that can prevent a pregnancy and treat medical conditions. When I got of the pill I bled for 3 weeks so heavy I couldn’t stand up without almost passing out. My doctor said it was normal… then tried to guilt me into going back onto the pill. Getting checked (a second opinion) for PCOS next month

I remember trying to get off the pill at 19 after one year taking it. Uffff the period pain was so intense and the bleeding too I thought I'll pass out I was curled up in pain and whimpering and it was just torture so I made sure I'd take the pill again. And waited for another two years to get off. It was nad again but I took a lot of pain killers and my skin was really bad for a year or so. The pill is really not healthy and can do a lot of damage

I’m so tired of having arguments with people that claim their bc “gave them/caused” their PCOS. 😒 That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works! 😩 Then they look at you like you’re the crazy one. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m so tired…

Can we talk about other bc options because all the research seems to be centered around the birth control pill. For example with nexplannon I had no periods for years and I’ve been off it for a while and I’ve gotten my periods back but still no pregnancy

Hi doc,greetings from philippines,i like to ask question,im been taking birth control pill called trust pills,for 5 years,then i stop,when my day of period arrived,which is day 28 of my cycle,the bleed is just a light spotting?is that normal,hope you notice me,thank you

I stopped taking the pill because my fiancé and I decided we want to try to conceive. I had the Skyla IUD for about 4 years and never had periods. I switched to the pill and started getting a period around the same day every month for 3 months and then all of a sudden stopped getting a period. It’s been about 3 months now with no period, and it’s been about a month since I stopped taking the pill and still no period. I’m so confused about why and what’s going on with my body. If I’m not getting a period then I’m not ovulating and can’t conceive 🙁

What do you recommend for extremely painful periods, especially as someone who went on the pill because of the intense pain, and would like to get off here.

Avoid NSAIDS, the risk to your stomach and liver isn’t worth it, granted the only thing that works for me is medical cannabis and my periods are pretty horrendous due to Endometriosis and PMDD

Is birth control ok after post-pregnancy hypertension? Bc increases blood pressure?

I’m not a doctor, so definitely talk to your doctor about what’s best for you, but this is my experience. I had gestational hypertension during my pregnancy that became chronic hypertension. I’m currently on a combination pill BC and taking lisinopril for my blood pressure. My doctor explained that as long as my blood pressure was well controlled with medication, that it was safe for me to go on a combination pill. If your blood pressure is not well controlled on medication, there are progestin only bc pills that could be an option. It’s the ethyl-estradiol that increases blood pressure, so using a progestin only pill has less risk of uncontrolled high blood pressure.

I gained weight when I stopped BCP cold turkey. It was (and is) awful. If fertility tx don’t work, I’m going back on the BCP - not for preventing pregnancy but because my body feels and looks like trash off it!
