Isis's dad is visiting. We're cleaning the attic in preparation of installing insulation and continue work on our old barn. We're supporting a cracked brick vault, take cement plaster off the beautiful stone walls, and start removing the old mangers.
We're Isis & Bertus. In the summer of 2023 we moved into a neglected farmhouse in a tiny village in the northwest of Italy. The last inhabitants left some 10 years ago, but large parts of the property have been empty for over 20 years.
Thank you for joining us on our adventure!

Hello Isis. Great to see both of your historical expertise in action again as you respectfully and curiously handle the old bedding, when Berthus straightens the shutter hinges and when you both work on straightening the wooden door. Like the other folk I enjoyed your fathers cameo role and am delighted Velluto has returned. Regards from Australia ☀️💚🐈‍⬛

I appreciate as many here do, (my interpretation) of your meandering way, of going about your tasks, not a bull at a gate, I hope you understand my meaning! The best part of Sunday is settling down to watch one of your beautiful videos, thank you all so very much! So happy to see Veluto back, and to see he no longer has fear in his eyes when he looks at you - he is still wary, but begining to trust - soon comes love! ❤️🐈‍⬛❤️ Isis, your dad is adorable, I was thinking he was young enough to be an honorary grandson, but not so (I'm "only" 75), proof again that hikers stay young longer! 😉♥️☺️ Thank you again for the lovely interlude, back now to shoveling our foot of new, wet, heavy snow. We had been down to bare ground, so this snow, like your rain, is much needed, just difficult to clear away.

Goodness you’ve had some wet weather this past week! Good job you have a plethora of indoor jobs to do! Your dad is like a self contained work force, he’s certainly not afraid to get stuck into the dirty jobs. It’s amazing just how much work he got done whilst staying with you. Hopefully this week will be somewhat dryer than last week. Giving plenty of choice on what job you need to tackle next! Great video, love dad’s personality breaking through when he was being filmed. It goes to prove you are never too old for stardom! ❤

Isis it was so nice to see and meet your dad and he certainly is a star of the episode and I love how you went through the matrass, duvets and sheets you found and went through layer by layer seeing how they repaired them all. It made one feel quiet sorry for them (though no doubt they were happy) but very hard working people with not a lot of money to spare and just doing with what they had. In those days repairing with what ever came to hand, old sheets, aprons, sometimes pieces from old clothing, curtains etc etc but they made it last. Not like today, people do not repair and have patches on something! that would not do. I just love how you and Bertus just take things in your stride, day by day and your place is coming on beautifully. Thank you for letting us join you on this beautiful adventure. Have a lovely week.

A lot of hard work, a lot of dust and a lot of rain, yet I watch you with such serenity. Dad, he's a big help, he's not afraid of hard work as much as you both are. how people used to mend everything, so many patches on that bedding today it's unthinkable for someone to mend one thing so many times. I'm so glad the kitten is back and whole and healthy, he doesn't look like a stray cat, more like an abandoned or lost one, he's a bit timid, unsure and distrustful, but he's come so close that he's less and less afraid, he's beautiful and has wonderful eyes. I wish you a lovely sunny week and look forward to your next vlog and wish the kitty would dare to let you touch him or try to enter the house, speak softly to him so he remembers your voice. See you🐈‍⬛🍀

Great working! just an theroethical comment, which perhaps does not count in this case: curve cannot be scaled larger or smaller, it also alters the actual curve. I'd sure made the wooden structure a bit more curved than the original, so when repairing vault tiling it has a bit space to lower when drying, without being againg a "too low"

Satisfying to watch this work! Thank you all! I have been thinking about the small stone bowl that you found in the animal barn, Isis and Bertus. It reminds me of little stone sink I have seen here in Tasmania, that has a bucket under it. Its purpose is to strain water to remove impurities in the old days. I wonder if you might add two large stones under it and have it near your picnic table tree? It would be a lovely little bird bath? I’m also keen to find out about your hat Bertus? @@storiesfromthecascina I assumed as much. But I saw it used with a small low power jack-hammer with a wide blade. boah, that through looks massive. May I suggest using a demolition hammer instead of an impact drill? It makes quite a difference cause the demolition hammer is MUCH heavier and thus cracks the concrete more easily. I once broke an impact drill after hours of work, went to the diy store and bought a demolition hammer: it got the job done within 20 minutes 🙂
@storiesfromthecascina
@storiesfromthecascina 5 ай бұрын
it is! it's two times six metres long. we are using a demolition hammer (the Makita HM1213C), I can't imagine attacking this with an impact drill.
