Storing your Boat in the Winter Helpful Tip / A MUST DO

I'm just getting ready to winterize my boat. Luckily I have a pole shed to keep it in now. So much easier than keeping it outside.

Chris- do you store with your lower end up? I've been advised to keep trimmed down to minimize strain on the bellows

Put it down. Yes, up strains the bellows

Would love to see how you bag the lower end. I winterized my boat for the first time this year (storing it outside). Pretty sure there's no more water in the lower end (put the lower end all the way down to let the water drain) and I'd like to keep it that way, lol

Just with a garbage bag and bungy cord. Or small tarp and two bungys

Do you just store it in your driveway after this? I have always felt safer having my boat wrapped professionally, I hate the cost every year but its peace of mind, I don't know if tarps would make me feel comfortable, also, what about venting? I don't see much airflow here.

Not much airflow. I did have everything open for a couple days While it was sunny and hot before I covered it. I buy the HD tarps. I put two HD tarps on and then older tarp on to protect my expensive tarps from the sun. Piece of mind is everything mid winter. I recommend doing what makes you feel comfortable

Where’s the airflow when you get it wrapped? There is far less airflow than using tarps

@@tookey2249 dude what? Who wraps your boats? Any good boat wrapper puts vents in. Yea there is plenty of airflow.

Great advice! Do you I have a Search Bow rider with factory cover for the bow. Should I remove that when I install full boat cover for winter and storing outdoors. I'm concerned it may get mildew.

Sorry it is stored. But, I just put 2 by 4s layed across the from maybe 5 or 6 of themthen a couple 2 by 4s in the middle to raise the center and keep the criss boards from moving

Chris Boats did you use any padding or just a heavy duty tarp?

@@haugenbp I put life jacked on the beams. And corners. Just a HD tarp bungeed it down and then a super HD tarp fir the top held down with tie downs and rope.

@@BigIslandMNMinnetonka Great ideas! Just watched a few more of your great videos. I have a 1991 SeaRay with a 4.3L AlphaOne. I'm going to be replacing the impeller this fall before I winterize. Now I'm wondering when I should replaced the bellows and if I need to re-machine my prop, which is stainless steel any has a few nicks.

I notice you’re using two different size tarps is that intentional? And if so what different widths did you go with?

The bottom one is 12 foot by 20 foot. Top 10 ft by 20 foot. The top tarp is really expensive. That's why I didn't get the 12 foot one. I amgoing to put another 12 foot by 20 to cover it again. It is not in great condition but it will protect my expensive tarp from. The sun

Does the boat get mildew or mold because of lack of air flow?

Probably stored wet or water got in during winter. If stored dry you shouldn't have a problem with that

Dollar tree / Wal Mart,,, sells moisture absorbent cups of something , forgot the name but they are in every shipping container and they work !!

You Don't need to run it. Just put somthing in the center of the floor so the snow doesn't cave in your cover
