Also reason Riva was in her heart was her father, when R won KD she called hospital and nurse told him (was watching) and tears in his eyes. Riva initially saved Meadow financially.

Rapid Cat is his son's daughter's son =) Storm Bird is Storm Cat's daddy. He is such a handsome stallion, one of my favourites. We used to have his grandson around here.

@kwmred I work with these horses DAILY here in Los Angeles. Having the stud chain over his nose is HOW they handle TB stallions, anywhere u go. He is walking him fine, close to his shoulder & when he starts to get nippy or won't stand still, he is pushing his face away & checking him w/ the stud chain letting him know it's not ok, & gets him refocused 2 stand still. They do not hire people at these farms unless they are comfortable with TB's, even the mares.

The chains are necessary, even in horse rescue when I had a TB recently off the track I used a chain around people and other horses used correctly they are neither mean nor cruel.

my mare's great grand father! her racing name was cat's punch now she is known as "Izzy". Super sweet gray/roan mare ... VERY ATHLETIC she can bounce around and get all four feet off the ground no problem! this will be her first show season cant wait to see how she does!!!

Omg people the handler is not hurting him with that chain. It is wrapped around his halter wich reduces the bite of the chain. He is simply trying to get his attention and let the horse know who is the boss.

yeah, he ran second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in 1985; won the now-defunct GI Young America S. that year, too. was an okay race horse, but certainly nothing that would indicate would sort of sire he would become.

People you have to remember this is a 1500 pound animal the chain is not hurting him if you have ever been around a rousy stallion you will understand it helps,and if rt was causing the horse pain he would be responding as if he were hurt and u can see he keeps trying to bite and is being reminded he shouldnt

I don't think he's shanking Storm Cat, he's tugging the chain to keep his attention and keep him from getting any ideas. Given his rep of being a mean S.O.B., they are being cautious. They warn the guy of him kicking in the video, and he's trying to gnaw on his handler--he's not a lamb.

his back is like that i think more from age than anything else.he doesn't have the "classic" thoroughbred look,he's also built a little more like a sprinter than anything, you can see it with his thick neck and huge hindquarters and his chest is really thick too. he's my horse's grandsire and they look very similar, but jazz's back isn't deep like that, but as he gets old, i'm sure i'll see some changes

Beautiful. I'm not sure what's going on with his knees though. You can see something there around 1:35. A nasty know on his right knee and he stands as if he's in pain. Obviously this is an old video, but just pointing out something was going on.

Explain just how the chain controls the horse. Is it some psycholgical bluff to make him think the Groom is more powerful than him or what? Fascinating stuff about all these different kinds of tack to manage horses.

Storm cat is known for acting out they are just keeping him in check so they know where his attention is. He has before hurt people so they are just keeping people and him safe. This doesnt hurt him it just keeps him constantly in check

His dam Terlingua was put down April of 1008 I think, infirmities of old age. God she was wonderful. There's a video of her by cf1970 here, you should watch it.

my horse is his grandson too and my horse doesn't nip and bite. its a "stallion thing." they can be extremely mouthy. and the handler is doing his job just fine, considering that Storm Cat is a stallion and they can be very dangerous. I've worked with stallions before and you definitely need to keep their attention. its also important to keep their heads straight, because they can turn around and bite pretty quick.

@goldenbear1950 - I couldn't agree with you more. Excessively yanking on the stud chain for no reason. He already KNOWS it's there and is standing quiet. He doesn't need to yank on it and push his neck away. He is already respecting his space. I have a TB, ex-racer from the track who thinks he is still a stud but knows when he can play up and when he can't.

Did you see the fluid on his right knee? It was collecting there. He's getting older and sometimes horses do collect fluid like an old man or woman will on their knees. But no, it's not cruel but, you do have to be careful around studs. There was a woman in the Uk who is a trainer and one of her studs grabbed her by the throat and tore her voice box out! She can't speak again. IF they're breeding, their weight can go up sometimes to 1200 or more pounds and that's alot of horse to handle.

@MUSICSOULCHICK The guy acts like he's afraid of the horse. People who are comfortable around horses don't have to do that sort of thing. So unnecessary.

I own one of his grandsons. No white but otherwise looks and ACTS just like him. I've never used the chain, have used natural training and sometimes he tries to bites, strike and rear. I've never had a gelding like this. Under saddle he's amazing. Leading him around is scary sometimes! I'm looking into positive reinforcement training next to get better manners. He'll do anything for a carrot!

there's no golden red in his coat. he is a bay/dark brown. most bay/brown horses have the lighter color around their nose. Storm Cat is my horse's grandpa, and they really look so similar. My horse actually resembles Storm Cat more than his sire.

@TheBeautyonHorseback I disagree. He was not an aggressive horse, only in races which was more physiologically that physically He ran aggressively to win. Ye she got small corrections as he is a stud, tis what they do, Secretariat was like that too, he has perfect ground manners.

Storm Cat was VERY aggressive. He is reaching around to bite his handeler when the chain is still. The handler is giving him small corrections repeatedly to say i'm the boss. From wht i have heard this horse was one mean son of a bitch genetically. The kind of horse who needs to be left to be a horse not paraded.

A relation of this horse storm cat and one of Secretariat grandson's ended up getting saved from the knackeries by a rescue group. It just goes to prooves it doesnt matter how famous they were in their younger days or how much money you won once your pass your usefulness they are thrown away like some piece of dispensable rubbish and quickly replaced by the next proposition thats going to earn them money .There is no conscious on how hard that horsed worked for the selfish and greedy humans they only see dollar signs no compassion or empathy for the horses who gave them their best years . This is the dirty little truth abiout the racing industrie that people choose to ignore or turn a blind eye to the very real reality where alot of these beautiful old race horses end up.
