@@reapthewhirlwind4166 the festival is in the black rock desert. it is an old dry lake bed. the soil is very alkaline. nothing grows there and hasn't grown there long before these festivals. Much like the salt flats. they make a lot of effort to clean up after they leave and one rain puts the ground right back to how it was before they were there.

Even small mamals, small mice, etc. And the most important factor, an intact clay basin that supports all the tiny creatures. An intact clay basin is priority. Intact. 70K+ feet and thousands of cars that will eventually need to leave, thereby creating yet more mud,will change the clay basin for decades..

This is not the issue. It's a dry lake bed. Yes, it's a desert but the most important factor is that it's a lake bed. This is not your average mud situation. I feel really bad for the people because if they get more rain it's going to be an absolute nightmare.

Absolutely. Shelter in place until it dries out 🤣 when I heard that I was like, two weeks?? Ain't gonna happen. Especially if they get more rain tonight like is forecast. This is just a guess but eventually they are going to have to realize that people need to leave and get back home. If they allow people to begin to move before it's totally dry there's going to be so many vehicles that are going to get stranded before they even hit the asphalt. They might try having some huge water trucks right at the asphalt to rinse the tires off of all the muck so people can drive but can you imagine THAT clusterfu@k?? There's just no good way to get off the playa right now and what happens when people's food and drinking water runs out?? I've had that crap on my tires before. Once it dries it's so hard to get off. You can't just drive and it starts to fall off like regular mud. This ain't regular mud. It's something akin to mortar for God's sake. It's just going to be a mess.

Maybe they can bring in a dozer and lots of gravel and make a road but I don’t know if that would work or not! What a conundrum.

The burning man website is creating rescue plans. For burners who can manage to walk five miles through this mud, there is a public road that is still drivable. Burning Man is offering bus service to Reno where burners can get a hotel room. But they are cautioning that the five mile walk through the mud is difficult and that burners need to be prepared physically, and they need to bring plenty of water.
