Always thought so, too. CN is a story of two sides of drug use: the dark illness represented in the verses, and the sweet euphoria of the chorus'. And Gilmour's deep, feathery sound is perfect for it.

I think it is an awesome album. The guitar solo, and the words and arrangement of "On the Turning Away" just cuts into me every time. I know this is probably considered blasphemy, but i think it did David a world of good to get rid of the burden that was Roger Waters. They made some good music together, but i think it was in spite of Roger, not because of.

What a great topic!!! My Gilmour 5'er, as a vocalist: 5 - Dogs - Professor pretty much said it all! 4 - Breathe - This is where we first really heard the ethereal vocal style we love David for. 3 - Goodbye Blue Sky - The beautiful multi-tracked vocals provide a nice tranquil respite to the emotional and lyrical turbulence going on for most of the rest of The Wall. 2 - Wish You Were Here - You can tell that the sorrow and melancholy comes from a real place, his lost friendship with Syd. That is what makes this track one of the most consistent emotionally moving songs, ever. 1 - Mother - David provides the perfect response to Roger's fragile and skeptical style in the verses. The lyrics and the singing move me on a deep personal level.

I’m going on almost one year since my stroke last October 2019. Dark Side of the Moon has always been one of my favorite all time albums. At age 57 going (God willing) on 58 in a few weeks, I will never hear and listen to “Time” in the same way I’ve been doing it all these years. Life is precious. Life is fleeting and not to be squandered. Don’t pass this world with your music still inside of you. And never surrender your voice to those people and those things trying to suffocate your passion and your dreams, thereby corrupting your journey, by making you live in a permanent state of fear.

I think this was a coded dig at David by Roger who always considered him the "new boy" in the band. It's an English schoolboy term for a kid who joins the class from another school. I feel sympathy for David having to sing "I am just a new boy" every night on the Wall tour as Roger doubtless was snickering in the background.

Not Now John is a very underrated song in my opinion. Not only for its vocal collaboration between Rogers and Gilmour; which, as you've noted, is powerful and gritty, but also because it also contains an underrated and almost forgotten guitar solo that I think is fabulous. Its one of Gilmour's few real rock n roll type solos, that has an elegant, almost Beat It type intensity.

Not mentioned, but I could add, beyond the sheer brilliance of the writing, playing and production of the Waters / Gilmour Floyd days, part of what I've always LOVED about all their vocals was the pure articulation and enunciation of their words; one was NEVER straining to hear the words, making listening to their songs effortless, unlike having to run to lyrics sheets and album covers to understand what Elton John or Mick Jagger were saying ???? in their muddled singing (despite their otherwise awesomeness). With Floyd, every syllable was defined as accurately as the note it was voiced on. Whether a screaming rocker, or a soft ballad, this makes listening to this band a joyful meditative experience with no stress or strain felt. Perfect.

Awesome video. Pink Floyd is the only band that stuck with my maturity from a drug addict and alcoholism through up to today with over 20 years of sobriety. This band had me screaming it’s lyrics during my drunken stupors with Gilmores guitar riffs adding an inner rush that I’ve never felt at such levels. Now I’m still screaming their lyrics but I’m usually driving my vehicle at the time and getting lost in the magic of this band. Thanks Pink Floyd for making me think critically through your messages. 😘

This was one video I waited and waited to click the "like" button until the late great brilliance of Richard Wright was called out. I'm glad it was. I know it was to spotlight Gilmour, but he and Wright sounded so perfect together. They didn't bring vocals to a new level, they brought vocals way higher, dare I say high enough to that great gig in the sky. My fiver: 5. "Us and Them" from DSotM. Out of this world, ethereal, yet DG's voice grabs you by the throat with such urgency. 4. "Embryo" from "Works." UGH! I could take an hour and talk about how silky-smooth DG's vocal is! 3. "Fearless" from "Meddle." Light and airy, with DG's quiet manner fluttering through the melody. 2. "A Pillow of Winds" from "Meddle." Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. The song that rightfully belongs on a list of "best songs to make out by"! Again, Gilmour is beautiful on this one. 1. "Echoes" from "Meddle." Haunting, chilling, yet inspirational. Gilmour and Wright are essentially one person with two voices on this song for how perfect they go together. It gets even better on the live version from "Live at Pompeii." Thank you, Mr. Reader. This video hit home and vaulted right up to one of my most favorites of yours. Much praise and respect from this old guy in Minnesota!

I discovered Pink Floyd late during college in the early 90s. It was a revelation. I'd heard the music, but it wasn't until this time that I actually *experienced* it. PF is one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time, and there is no way I could choose just 5 of David's vocal performances. His virtuosic guitar playing sometimes made me forget how essential his amazing vocals are, so thanks for the reminder.

The moment I heard Time for the first time I knew, I just knew that this was what my soul was aching for, that this band and their members would change my entire vision on life and they did. To this day for me there would never be another band that would come close to doing that, and that is why they are my favourite.

"Comfortably Numb" is Mr. Gilmour at his best. The frustration and despair of the lyrics. And then that guitar solo, full of rage and sorrow and grief for the life that could have been but was not. I need that T-shirt, Professor.

“Vicious musical attack on the senses”... this sums it all regarding Pink Floyd creations. Unmistakably the work of Gilmour and Waters has brought us such art to have and behold, f.e. just as Michelangelo did with his paintings and sculptures... and as for you my friend, I’m really amazed on how you bring so much to the ‘cassette table’ 😁 with all your music knowledge, a big Thanks!!

Awesome! Always loved Pink Floyd. I'm 60 years old and I STILL love Pink Floyd! You could have thrown "Echoes" in the mix. That's an excellent song. Richard Wright co-wrote it (along with the other 3 member as well). His vocals on Echoes are terrific. RIP Rick.

Pink F had a retropective exhibition at the V&A in London, in 2017. You had to wear headphone, so it was an immersive experience. I took my 19 year old son who is not a particular fan , but loves the design and artwork plus the way the whole experience was designed. You entered through the backdoors of an old van in which they used to tour. It was a brilliant day.

On your recommendation, I listened to the song. I think you should listen to it with fresh (adult) ears. It’s not the worst rock ballad ever made, but I can easily list 30 others that are far better. Sometimes our memories of a song color our judgement of its quality, and I’m guessing that’s what’s happening here. I don’t think our dear professor will ever do a video on that song, unless he wants to cover the story of Alice getting clean. Then it would be relevant. I always loved “Poison”, but that’s about it for me and Alice Cooper. It’s hard to take him seriously when he’s dressing up like the devil and putting on a circus, LOL. I think KISS is overrated too. They’re a spectacle, not serious musicians. They don’t even mind admitting that.

David is my top guitarist ever. Bluesy rock riffs and deeply hypnotic. Sometimes I put on his instrumentals and drift off to sleep. Glad to see Time as being your top song. The lyrics are so profound and prophetic. I like the first part of the lyric, “ticking away the moments that make up a dull day. Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way. kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown. town. Waiting for someone or something to show you the way. Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
