Journaling and storytelling is so important because it helps you document the story of you! Telling your story matters. Personal storytelling helps you remember those crucial moments that you never want to forget.
Ali Edwards is a designer, blogger, workshop instructor, and author of four books. She teaches the importance of recording stories as well as small, everyday moments. She emphasizes that every individual has a story worth remembering and that the process of documenting stories aids in self discovery.
Ali also outlines 6 important reasons why everyone should journal and record your story. She talks about finding your why for recording your life, and shares her why. Ali emphasizes that you will never regret documenting your story.
Scrapbooking and journaling helps her process her own life experience. It is almost therapeutic and helps her make sense of her life.
She has a desire to tell her story, because no one else can tell your story how you can. Only you can unlock your story.
Ali outlines how important it is to write things down for her children. There are so many things she has a desire for them to know and remember. She talks about how important it is to her to give her children the gift of words.
Writing also helps give context to pictures. Photos are exciting in journaling because they often tell a story, but Ali talks about how important it is to include written words as well to really convey the emotions behind the picture.
Another part of Ali’s why is that there are so many things she wants to remember. Life is full of so many moments that she doesn’t want to forget. These include the big moments, but also the little, seemingly insignificant moments. Those day to day moments will be such treasures.
Finally, Ali says storytelling is part of who she is. Sharing your story offers hope to the people around you.
Your story matters. It has value and it will be treasured. What is your why for journaling?

All so wonderful, love it all, and I, my self has connected my scrapbooking to my family history pages and when I attend family reunions, my books are the main topics of the event. And I have added some of my scrapbooking to my mother's family reunion books. Adding more then just a name and date.

I write a monthly summary of some family highlights, stories, events & quotes from my kids along with photos in a digital scrapbook. I jot down things that stand out to me throughout the month in an email draft that I want to be sure to record and then transfer it into the scrapbook pages along with some personal commentary of my own. I print them about once a year into a scrapbook. My kids absolutely love looking through and reading these printed scrapbooks! I’m surprised at the things we forget even happened as we reread them. They’ve been a huge blessing to me & my family!

I love doing research and making it relevant, also old photos of ancestors and relatives. One Sunday after dinner about forty years ago, we were looking at old photos and most were not named, so i had an idea to ask the aunts to put the names on, so they had a fun time of naming the people. That paid off, as now we are using them on the family trees. I just had an idea of a quirky way to get people to put names on their old photos: Don't leave the backs of photos naked, they will be better with names. This can get challenging, as I have 2 - 3 old albums with no names on the family photos.

Ali, what a beautiful way of sharing your story! I was very impressed by your 6 methods of sharing your personal history and memories. Thank you! I too LOVE photography and have been thinking as of late how I can bring these images of experiences more to life and have more meaning to me and my family. This was the inspiration I needed!
