The 4.7 is a good motor if you take good care of it. I changed out all my lifters at 100 thousand to avoid the broken head problem. I have the manual six speed in mine and the gear ratios are set up good for towing. It’s no powerhouse but it is reliable. The manual shifts smooth as butter. I have no dislikes about my truck. Now my wife’s Grand Cherokee is a monster with the 5.7 in it. Mileage isn’t real good but not bad if you drive it nicely. But if you have to move it is a neck snapper.

2nd Gen "The New Dodge" were the best looking -Rams- Trucks ever made. Sadly, especially in my area, They're non-existent or have shed about 500lbs of their body & another 300lbs of their frame. 3rd Gen Rams are getting close to that same scenario except they made 18 Billion of the things & sold every last one of em. Love that Monster Durango. Which is ALSO the Best looking -Durango- Mid-Size SUV ever made.

SOHC layout vs Pushrod. a Coyote is a DOHC, the Ford Tritons loved to eat up Chain guides. I've talked with numerous Dodge Mechanics and one in particular that works in Canada/Michigan and had a Hemi Swap Clinic during Moparty a couple years ago. Drop valve seats in both the 5.7 and 4.7 is due to extreme overheating. Not just a few degrees warmer but running them to 250-280 degrees. There's plenty of mechanics that dislike the 4.7, because they worked on so many of them from people who abused them and didn't maintain them, they just naturally didn't want to have them personally. A 4.7 might "drop valve seats" and roller/rocker arms. BUT a 4.7 doesn't come standard with a valve train tick after 20k miles. Though most complaints are from the owners/mechanics of a 4.7 in a 1500 Ram, which were dogs due to the power:weight and gearing. I'm at 125k on my 2004 Dakota, I hear more people bashing the transmissions than the 4.7 lol Guy who helped me do plugs and coils was shocked at how responsive my truck was.

Will changing the bearing hubs help gas mileage? Lol . I have a real question. My 2005 5.7 2wd has the ebrake light on and abs, is the a failed c clip in the differential? Is it causing a magnetic sensor to keep those lights on? I just picked up the ram and the owner said those lights been on for years but it drives nice and looks clean. Suspension is all shot. Honestly there’s a lot more to it, for some reason the 2002 is a good bit different than the hemi models, you’d be better off getting a donor truck & pulling the wiring & swapping everything over, if you do it yourself it’s about a $2500 job to buy the donor truck & new parts to go through it, like the cooling system for example. Honestly I’ve never tried to reuse the 4 speed, all I really know in that aspect is that the 4 speed & 5 speed auto have the same housing.

My 4.7 has 300k on it, runs like new, 20+ mpg highway, and I've only done 02 sensors, changed the oil using Mobil 0w40 euro blend because I live in Alaska so no thick oils up here! It's true though, I've worked on many many 4.7 and 3.7 and Hemis and early magnum 318 and 360s and the 2 most common problems on all of them is #1 not changing the oil on time or using inferior oil and filters. #2 overheating and continuing to drive. That's about it as far as engines. As far as the rest of the ram series bodies, drive train, suspension, brakes, all very high quality if fluids are checked and changed at book intervals . Most people never see the underside of their truck untill catastrophic failure occurs, but you can save a ton of money if you do!😂😂😂😂

I'm roughly 213,000 miles on my 08 1500 full cab with the 4.7 with corn fuel capability. I got warning lights only because the abs was replaced before I bought it for $3,800. It's been extremely nice and responsive one funny thing is my lights may be on, but if they turn off, I know my abs and speedometer are being french because its wet out. I mean, I don't have the hemi, but she goes when she's told too. Also, apparently, going to a tire shop with bald tires that you've put 20,000 on since buying is a sure way to scare the techs. P.s. The new tires have made a huge difference in ride. Never gonna run corn fuel corns for eating not engines

I have a 2005 1500 ram 4x4 5.7 hemi and took it in for an engine code. They said it’s a spark plug in cylinder 2 so I said just replace all the spark plugs. Now after driving the check engine light came back on , took it back and they Said it’s just a sticky lifter and will go away when you get on the highway for awhile. Do I need new lifters or is the spark -plug not in spec.. I put in some additives that made the code go away but it came back

@davidetchellsetchells4692
@davidetchellsetchells4692 2 ай бұрын
Coil pack or mds lifter is failing, this requires both heads to come off and an mds delete kit installed with new cam and non mds hydraulic roller mopar performance lifters installed then re assembled with new head , valve cover, intake, gaskets installed and everything tourqued to factory spec which is a very precise operation. You can do it, but you must have patience and use techniques that apply to the metals your working with, I almost forgot, all accessories must be dismounted and the exaust manifolds or headers as well for this procedure ( top end tear down) this is what Hemis do,,,,, eat roller lifters, especially if you have MDS lifters, the oil must be the highest quality like Amsoil or Mobil 1 synthetic and filters must be Mopar or Mobil 1 oil filters. You might as well swap in a hellcat oil pump while you're in there and solve the problem once and never have that or any problem with the engine again👍🤙

Both engines have their drawbacks. The beauty of dodge is that you can swap a 5.2 ( 318) 5.9 (360) 3.7/ 4.7 or any Hemi in the ram series and also the iron V10 or the Viper all aluminum V10. But like I say they all have their drawbacks, the Hemi got vvt and MDS both have a high failure rate, ive seen brand new Hemis of all displacements explode with 20k miles on them and had to be replaced under warranty. I prefer the early 5.7 without all the crap on em, they last! Same with the 4.7 and 3.7, early ones are fantastic as long as you don't use crap oil in them and change it at 3k like your supposed to, they run extremely hot so bleeding the cooling system per mopar spec is extremely important otherwise you get dropped valve seats , sludge that blocks the timing chain tensioner especially on the passenger side for some reason and that will destroy your engine with valves poking through piston tops! The 4.7 is a fantastic engine if used as intended, it's not a hot rod engine but it certainly has great potential as one with a few upgrades such as high volume oil pump from a hellcat, which should be standard on all dodge V8s, it has been determined by many Dodge techs and engineers thar the failures in both the 3.7 ,4.7 , and all hemis except hellcats suffer from top end valvetrain oil starvation. Otherwise the bottom end on all these engines are the shining star of Dodge, I can't say enough good things about the balancing and machine tolerances of the blocks, cranks, the cracked cap rods, main saddles, and bores, simply very high quality.

Are all the 4.7s engines the same? I hardly ever find an article or a video about the last generation of the 4.7 Magnum. Got it on my 2010 Ram 1500, seems a pretty decent engine, not a Hemi, but still okey, it takes me from point A to B easily. I'm aware they did some upgrading to the 4.7 before it went out of production back in 2013, but nobody talks about it. BTW here in Chile the 4.7 isn't that usual to see, compare to the 3.7.
