The best UK police show ever. Routine, everyday drama under fluorescent lights. Strong long-term characterizations; it neither glamorized nor vilified the job.

I've never seen this show before. But I love the serious, precise tone of the screenplay as portrayed by the actors and seen on their faces, as well as the documentary style cinematography and the absence of music.

Remember watching original series and thinking, great writing and cast do a decent job, so got hooked pretty quickly but it never lasts, once the writers changed it all sort of went downhill. Missed the first episode so always appreciate someone sticking these old shows up.

Great TV show and very innovative with their documentary style cinematography, being shot on Video gives it an analogue look which isn't too earthy/reality, or else it would look crap, but it isn't overly glossy/glamourous; you feel like you are in the same room and place with them; feeling what they feel.

I've never watched this series, but it started pretty good. What I most enjoy is the slow pace in some scenes, it gives the opportunity to analyze the situation and all. Nowadays, especially the American prime time series run on such a fast pace it just makes you dizzy sometimes. I love the amount of outdoor footage.

i can remember when this show started and yeah it seems strange to see the changes in attitudes on both sides of the law ,back then i remember going out triping away a some party somewhere or other ,the cops might pull up as you were walking home and give us a lift,i remember the old lady saying to get them to drop us round the corner so the neighbours wouldn't think we were in the shit, then in 1990 moved to where they carried guns all the time and their attitude was so different towards people .,then popped back to london for the first time in 23 years in ;"13 and before we had even got off the plane two cops with guns came on board and arrested someone ,then going through the terminal at customs and they were every where with bullet proof vests ,para boots and a semi auto ? guns and probably a hand guns.see once upon a time if you were going to get up to any illegal activities you went flat out for a couple of years then got out but during the 90"s something changed and enough was never the case for so many people .they just got greedy ,and probably watched to many scarface/gangster type movies too.even the cops look like crims now sleaved tatts ,and none of them covered, wrap round sunnys, etc ,anyways sorry for waffling on but thanks for the nostalgia watching these again and the trip down memory lane

I lived in London from 88-92. It was a far cry from New York at the time. No crackheads, no shootings, and the cops weren't all pissed off and bad tempered. But the courts allowed people to get away with murder. After 2000, gun crime seemed to get much worse.

I know reboot is in the works. Hopefully, it’s a BritBox exclusive show and NOT on ITV, this way, we can get a really good reboot and not the watered down one. Also hopefully ITV puts all 25 series on BritBox, remastered into 4K. (It shouldn’t be hard to do…..)

It's a bit like watching Dixon of Dock Green. A different World back then. No mobiles let alone smart phones - no internet - home computers were a tad slow (BBC Acorn - Sinclair Spectrum) and the front seat belt law had just been passed which was just as well as ABS - Airbags and traction control didn't exist for the majority of drivers. Love the row of cars at 22:06 - Austin Allegro - Triumph Dolomite and a Datsun. These programs really are like a living historical document.

The Bill started as a "kitchen sink" drama that was supposed to be a realistic police procedural but the whole show gets progressively sillier and less realistic over time. By the mid 90s you have shootouts and car chases and beat coppers refusing to wait for S019 (UK equivalent of SWAT/Tactial Operations Unit) and ramming cars full of armed men and making them explode. Despite some dramatic licence, these early episodes are widely regarded as the most realistic depiction of police work ever made.

The cuffs were in a small Hiatts pouch on the belt, notebook and pen in the left pocket and truncheon in a trouser truncheon pouch (16" long for the 16" peg) - there was no need for duty belts! However as stated above they do have cuffs! Also WPCs carried their smaller 8" peg in the issued handbag that had to be carried!

A few silly questions on here, don't you people have "GOOGLE"?!?! The Bill first aired in 83 I believe and ran up until 2010 and has been praised for keeping as real to the current police issue equipment as possible, and the "bag" that someone mentioned it most likely the WPC.s bag witch carried their note book and truncheon. Just a guess though ;)

You seem to have come in late to all this so I'll explain. Up until recently, there were *hundreds* of Bill episodes on KZfaq that people had uploaded over many years. Then a few months ago, FremantleMedia UK demanded they all be taken down. At the same time, they issued a press release announcing that they were going to upload all the episodes on KZfaq. You can probably work out the rest. This is an official FremantleMedia channel and nobody "took time out of their day" to upload this.

Why don't people like you quit complaining and be grateful that somebody is going to the time and effort to upload them at all? You want to see it so bad? YOU do something about it!
