he meant straight roll approach, not the ending. bowling is split between 3 rolls ont he lane.. the slip which is the oil on which the ball moves forward, no spin because of the oil. then at 40 feet, the oil stops and th eball is allowed to spin again. which generates the hook. then the roll out which is th eball going straight to the pins after the hook. what he means is straight from the first 40 feet. many bowlers would tell you to send it diagonnal, but he'ssending it straight instead, he never ment the hook nor the roll out.

On a fresh house shot, for me, straight leaves less garbage. Yes, you get more corner pins but not if you stay flush. Hook has a wider pocket in my experience, but also leaves BIG garbage... usually right at the wrong time. If you're going to maintain your balance at the line, and not need to loft it too far, straight will mean more even scores.
@AverageJosh7692 жыл бұрын
For me its the opposite, sure i can take my hand out of the ball and throw anything straight, but the ball roll is not nearly as dynamic, and it becomes unpredictable (at least for me) when i dont give my ball some head oil so it doesnt start hooking the moment it hits the lane

@paulwest81852 жыл бұрын
It comes down to where the oil is exactly. I think for sport shots the straighter you can go the better because your more likely to get more miss room off of that but if you can find a line where no one else is playing and average 220-230+ on it then that’s obviously the better play. I prefer hooking it more on house because most of the low rev people will just burn up second arrow and to the right of that so if I can move in and not affect anyone’s line then use their burn to my advantage that’s what I’m going to do
@Ghostacc9562 жыл бұрын
Could you please break this down for a new bowler? I understand most of it but some of the terms are foreign to me
@paulwest81852 жыл бұрын
@@Ghostacc956 so I am a two handed bowler so I have more revs (speed and curve) than a lot of other bowlers so I can move in and play in the middle part of the lane and get my ball to the right (how Packy does it in this video just opposite because I’m right handed). But I’ve bowled tournaments on sport shots where I’ve been able to play straight while others can’t or have been able to play inside while others can’t and have led the tournament because of it. With sport patterns too, they have a low ratio (lower than 4:1) which in bowling means you don’t have a lot of miss room. The lower the ratio, the harder the sport pattern. This all depends too on how the oil is broken down by where bowlers are playing it, also depends on bowling centers and lane surfaces (because centers have different types of bowling lane surfaces). On house shots too, lower rev players will typically play straight around second arrow (second arrow closest to the gutter) so when that area gets broken down by all the bowling balls going down the lane, I can use that end point of the pattern from their transition where it’s dry to throw it there and give more miss room

I’ve bowled duckpins out here in Maryland for all my life. A good majority of us throw the ball straight with little to no hook, with the exception of some bowlers who also bowl tenpin (this short is the “proper” category name of bowling) so I’m used to seeing the straight approach. But damn is it smooth to see both the straight and hooked approaches. Edit: Also forgot to mention that there is only about maybe 10-12 feet of oil on the first portion on the lane and doesn’t go nearly as far as tenpin does. This explains why there isn’t many people doing any sort of hooking in the sport. Once I find a good link from the newer duckpin channels I’m going to put the link here for reference! Great transition! I’ve never bowled a 700 series because I haven’t transitioned well. I’m just starting to learn how to transition. I didn’t understand what a flat ten signaled versus a ringing ten. I knew a 4 pin signaled too high in the pocket, that’s about it.
@travishanson1665 ай бұрын
@@DonaldDump2024 4 pin is half an inch/board too high or coming in on the 18 board. It's almost perfect. In that situation a bit more speed is all it takes or half a board with your feet to change the angle in the front of the lane. Many people think the pocket is between the 1 and 3. It is not. It is 2.5 boards right of the center of the head pin. So the ball will cover almost half of the head pin rolling into the pocket. High revs do make the pocket larger, however. Which is why people can now carry half pocket hits.

I have a bowling buddy who does that. If he leaves the 7 pin he throws from the left gutter across the boards to the right gutter and hooks it back to the left and knocks out the 7. Good point. Targeting a straight shot is easier for me although I do enjoy the challenge and looks of throwing across the lanes and watching it hook back into the pocket.
