To give some small perspective. When you fly from the UK to Cape town, you spend just over flying over Europe, nearly an hour flying over the Med, and nearly 10 hours flying over Africa.

Don't get too bogged down by the total time the mission takes (easier said than done I know). The safe completion is all that matters. Whatever the time ends up being will likely stand as a world record for a long long time.

hmmmm they have actually been quite sh1t at the figuring out many parts of this. You dont leave passports in a box in the front in a van - you have them locked in a hidden safe in a Van. When robbed you tell the robbers passports are back in the hotel safe. You research rainy season and the chances of a non 4x4 being able to cross during rainy season are not great. You shouldnt leave a runner running without being in visual contact of the support vehicle in certain parts of Africa. (they shouldve planned from the beginning 1 x support vehicle being an offroad motorcycle (especially if attempting during wet season) . they dont know how they are going to cross into Tunisia (i saw them asking on a fbk post with Africa overlanders). Libya and Algeria southern borders are closed and there is limited 'non guided' travel in these countries. And Libya and Algerians southern borders also border some very difficult countries to get visas and drive through (Chad / Niger (recent coup although that has happened since they left)/ Mali (terrorist war zones in some parts) so unless they have some certain embassy officials from the UK talking to certain officials in the above countries its going to be unlikely they can cross (unless they get some super 'unplanned' luck) or are prepared to run to North Morocco / Ferry to Spain / run to Italy / Ferry to Tunisia. If I had the goal to be the first person to run the length off Africa i would try to minimise the 'winging as we go" element. Unforeseens will always happen but you manage them in a more prepared manner.

Damn the distance to go was getting close to 10k now with the new route back up to 11.5k, most pretty consistent club runners that's like 3+ years of their running volume left to do such a crazy challenge this, but loving following along
