Funny enough, this is how you get those laws taken off the books. Most of them only stick around because no one is challenging them (because they're irrelevant), but if a case is actually brought to court, there's a solid chance it'll be taken down if it is actually nonsense.

Indeed - although many of them have long since been repealed either explicitly or implicitly. The speed limit for early horseless carriages, for instance, was repealed in 1930.

@Bjawu3 ай бұрын
@@manuel-mr6ri I recommend not drinking in the morning, obviously :) But if I HAD to? First choice would probably be beer - blond by default, tripel if we're on a timer. It won't fuck your stomach (much) and makes it easier to manage dosage. People tend to underestimate how hard morning booze hits, so low ABV is probably a good idea. Second choice, I'd go for some clear spirits, mixed with something to soften them up a bit. Something like a 2:1 of vodka + get 27, maybe. It won't fuck you up too much if you dose it well (but it's super easy to overdo it). Third choice, irish coffee maybe? Though if you have a high tolerance you'll want to switch to decaf at some point, lest the caffeine fucks you up more than the booze. As a last consideration, in case anyone is taking this seriously: do not attempt any of this. It's not very likely that Max actually downed a whole bottle of wine + some beers + some shots of tequila in the morning - it's probably just editing. If he actually did, he either has a freak tolerance or a serious issue. Most people would have to be rushed to the ER for less.

A penny-farthing is NOT 'self-propelled' One has to pedal it oneself to propel it. The law was for things like cars with engines, and it was repealed, so the first law was not broken. Dragging a plank is not the same as carrying a plank, and I thought that the law referred to long planks or planks carried by more than one person. The climbing a tree law was local to the Cornish coast and was for pointing out not 'a fish' but good spots for fishing to boats at sea, so this exception never applied to back gardens in London.

Brilliant video! I would like to point out though, that "self-propelled" might not refer to self-propelled vehicles such as bikes, but might actually refer to the first auto-mobiles that were self (auto) moving (mobile). It would make a lot more sense, since, as you demonstrated, it would be quite easy to break that speed-limit with a bike (even in the late 1900).
@pontushaggstrom62616 ай бұрын
Bicycles aren't self propelled to start off with. Today, that law doesn't exist. Tho there is a law that restricts class 2 invalid carriages (mobility scooters, motorized wheelchairs etc) form going above 4mph. But as you say, this might've very much been a thing around the turn of the century, where cars were a new thing and considered dangerous. They only wanted you to drive along at walking speed. This was usually only a thing in the towns, so once you got out to the country you could go as fast as you'd like. And cars back then didn't really go that fast.
