I’ve been to Canada a few times. Also the US, Australia, New Zealand and many other places in my life, but I mention these as they all have a common cultural history stretching back 200 years or so. What I can tell you is that I found the Canadian people to be very much like the Brits and Irish in character and values and the way we communicate. Sure there are differences but nothing any more different than say Londoners and Glaswegians within the UK. In the west of Canada, the culture is heavily influenced by the US, and that’s understandable. But there is also a distinct Canadian / Ontarian culture that is bright, refreshing and positive. I think the east has less US influence and certainly some places felt like any European city. For me though - the west is where it’s at, and it’s just like the south of England, but more relaxed. You are a great example of the charm and wit and character and general openness.... Ontario would be proud if they were only watching.

I've never been to Canada, but I thought I'd share a list with you of the things I think about when someone utters the word Canada. Mountains, lakes, Mounties, Huskies, those furry hats with chin flaps, the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Forests and lumber jacks, that Candid Camera show thingy (hilarious), Eskimos (Inuit), Polar bears, Native Americans, log cabins, Salmon, Skiing, Ontario, Vancouver, huge steam engines, Canada Geese, you, The X Files, Michael Buble, Beaver and Beaver dams, Rodeo, the Canadian Flag, second world war heroes who fought with us Brits, on land on the sea and in the air, French Canadians, British Columbia, Newfoundland, great explorers, The Hudson Bay Company, kiaks, grizzly bears, the Gold Rush, Caribou, mosquitoes, maple syrup and snow. And Canadians themselves; well its a bit harsh on Americans but generally the image of Canadians is that they are like Americans but more civilized lol, but then that's because other than French Canadians, they are half British. The French Canadians are half French so they are more civilized than Americans too. Canadians are like Aussies, too except more polite. Terribly cliche I know, but positive and I think that the Brits are generally very fond of Canadians and have a great deal of respect for Canada.

@@GFSLombardo Gary, What continent is Canada on? While yes, we generally refer to indigenous people as First Nations or Natives, Native American is technically also correct as these tribes did not have borders like we do and North and South America are American too even though people in the USA have claimed that demonym.

@@MyghtyMykey Actually, according to Wikipedia, Native American means specifically indigenous people of the United States, just as American means citizen of the United States. So, this also does not apply to indigenous people of other parts of North and South America.

As a Brit living in Canada for over 40yrs I had an email conversation about music with my mates. When I spoke of Canadian music one said "Oh you mean Rush & Brian Adams" I schooled them with Colin James, The Tragically Hip, The Grapes of Wrath, The Payolas, Tom Cochrane, Lover Boy, April Wine, Chilliwack and many more. They were astounded that they never got to hear such great music. Also they never realized that Men Without Hats (Safety Dance) and Martha and the Muffins (Echo Beach) and more were Canadian songs. It's criminal that these bands don't get the exposure they deserve. And BTW they loved them all.

The Guess Who. One of the best rock bands ever. This American has benefited from Canadian artists his whole life. I'm 54, and all my older siblings were into Neil Young when I was young. His music was everywhere. It still is, at my house. A few years ago, my kids wanted to see Niagara Falls. We drove from south Kansas to London, Ontario and on to Toronto, then finally the Falls. We loved the trip. I have to say, though, Toronto's traffic is insane! You look a bit pale. You're strength and fortitude got you through another interesting video, even with the flu. Thanks!

I've been to Canada twice, firstly before you were even born also on the road trip from Calgary to Vancouver via Banff and Kamloops. The 2nd time was to Toronto to see a Chinese group, the 12 Girls Band, in concert in 2007. (My only chance to see them, living in the UK!!). The Canadians are friendly, helpful, funny and cool. I hope you get the chance to visit Devon and Cornwall soon, stunning scenery down here. Get well asap!!

I do a weekly radio show about Bluegrass and roots music, which is mostly oriented towards Nashville and Kentucky - the bluegrass heartland. It is AMAZING how many Canadian artists are making a GOOD living in that genre, and knocking the Americans out of the park. I'll put my vote in for The Be Good Tanyas among loads of great Canadian bands. I've experienced both -29 and +39 temperatures in Montreal - of the two, the heat was worse. Montreal has more restaurants/person than any other city in the world (I believe). So if you get bored of Kraft Dinner or poutine, there's loads of cuisine to choose from there (even if none of it is likely to be Canadian in origin!) Each week I think, will the mini Christmas tree still be up. Can it make it into February?

Having visited Canada in 2016 with my family and again in 2018 with just my wife, I can say I absolutely loved it, we were based in Golden BC for the first trip and Vancouver Island and Golden on the second trip. The people were so friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them, and as for food, you might not have a national cuisine but the food we ate was gorgeous, never had a bad meal. My wife and I agreed if we had done these trips 30 to 40 years ago we would have emigrated, but as I approach my 70th birthday that's not going to happen, although my son and his wife are seriously looking at going. I have promised myself one treat for my 70th and that's we are going back to Golden and taking the children with us, in fact, the cabins are already booked and I can't wait. Keep up these great videos I look forward to my weekly treat

Those beautiful blue waters of Lake Louise. I always thought the pictures doctored until I took a picture myself and saw just how beautiful it was. Walked up to Lake Agnes still covered in ice. The tea house had been open just two days. Just wish I could go back again, saw a bear on road to Moraine Lake which is left for nature to control.

Kingston, Ontario. Drivers stopping as you approach the kerb so you can cross. Felt hotter there than I did in Australia because Canada gets much more humid around the lakes. Plus you have the best part of Niagara Falls, bears...and Neil Young. Visit Canada folks!

Best sushi i ever ate was in downtown Toronto. Super cosmopolitan city and yeah very friendly, I found. I think people gotta see some Canadian Ice Hockey to know not all Canadians are polite 😅

I’ve always loved Canada. Visited it. Have relatives there. About half the channels I subscribe to are made by Canadians. I wanted to emigrate to Canada when I left the RAF but life got in the way.

I’ve been to Vancouver in August visiting family. I don’t know about misconceptions but one thing that was an eye opener... they had an ice rink booked for a game of hockey at 3am!!! Apparently, it’s so popular the rinks are open 24hrs... even in the summer! Had a great time and met some wonderful people. Got chatting to one fella in a pub one night and we ended up on a tour of ‘gentlemens clubs’ on his Harley. Great night. 😁 Loved the little bathtub ferries on the river too haha

Visited Vancouver with my family when I was a teenager. It's a beautiful city. I'm from Los Angeles and I remember I was stunned when I saw how clean the city was. We were there in the middle of summer and froze our butts off by the way.

Kraft dinner update : tried KD and ketchup last night and it was surprisingly ok? Also I recommend Wolf Parade, probably the best best Canadian band from the 00s Also here on Vancouver Island we haven't had snow at all this winter

Best Canadian popular musical artist is Coeur de Pirate (Béatrice Martin) - in both French and English. She writes and sings in both languages.

I go to Edmonton every winter because I like -30'C (also my brother lives there) and then to places like Banff for snowboarding. My experience of Canadians is that most are super friendly and polite. My other observation is that where ever there is a ski hill Canadians have been replaced exclusively by Australians. If I was Canadian I'd keep an eye on this as they seem to be trying to replace you. As a side note my best mate from Canada does yammer on about poutine a lot so he is now named Captain Poutine but he is from Montreal.

I heard a couple of songs by Serena Ryder. She has a fantastic voice - very raspy, and definitely worth checking out. She did an incredible version of Leonard Cohen's 'Sisters of Mercy' and Bruce Springsteen's 'Racing in the Street'

I've not met a Canadian in real life yet. But I think you are wonderful! Not boring! I find English people get triggered so easy when it comes to anything British / English. Also, where did you get your jumper?! It's cute as heck.

@kimc555

Kimberly Roberts ironically - a ‘jumper’ here in BC is .... well. It’s when someone is attempting suicide on a bridge ... usually in the middle of the day and the bridge is then closed to all traffic and causes worse congestion than usual. Eg: ‘god, the Lions Gate is closed again - did you hear why?!’ ‘Ya, someone said it’s a jumper’. 😕

Hey! 'been to Canada' - that means me! A few years ago me and my other half went to Vancouver and Vancouver Island on a business trip/holiday. It was pretty damn good all round. First impression on leaving the airport (Seattle) and crossing the border for the long drive north was: those fields are *huge!* holy cow, just miles and miles of crops... Vancouver is a nice mix of styles, and kind of cool all round. Very big meals, every time. We could have lived on a single shared breakfast for the whole day. Really, really wide roads - pressing the crossing button, and thinking "I have got to get across 6 lanes now" (We were walking to the park) Black squirrels! Hot weather - it was 26C in Vancouver but 32C in Toronto! insane... Um what else? Oh, aquariums and zoos - awesome - especially seeing wolves and sea otters! Vancouver Island - Just great - I rate it as one of the best islands in the world, and finally, giant trees! The temperate rain forest areas grow massive trees. Also, friendly people - stereotype, but more true than not...

You should see the crops in Alberta and Saskatchewan literally go for miles and miles. And a northern forest that stretches for Thousands of uninterrupted miles.
