This is not LCWs weak spot, but rather a spot where he can't do anything bad to Lin Dan. You should have covered the other options LCW actually has in this situation. Long clear to Lin Dans forehand is your death, everybody knows that. Long Clear to his backhand has to be very good, otherwise he is intercepting it. The Cross court drop shot is nice as a surprise element like you showed in the video, but if he does it more often, he will be and was punished. Playing like LCW in this situation is the right thing to do. He is a better tactician than all of us after all and if it's not him then his coaches are.

This is a very well made video BUT the tactics between these players are much more complex than this. One of the weak points of LCW is the long forehand corner, but if you look at the tactics Lin Dan has used to beat LCW so many times you will see that he's attacking LCW's second weak point - the backhand defence. therefore LCW want to keep it on the forehand side of lin dan as he is not as dangerous there. if he would cross from the deep forehand it's very easy for lin dan to get the straight smash opportunity to LCW's backhand which is exactly what he wants. So apart from being lin dan's tactics it's also the same from his opponents side. lin dan is playing with the right tactics but so is Lee Chong Wei too!! On the other hand, the reason why LD can play with this tactic is that his shot quality on the push to his opponent's long forehand is very good. on the match point in the olympics final it wasn't and because of that LCW was able to do a one leg jump, which he couldn't in the other situations. from that position he can play any shot and I am sure that if the quality was like that on shots to the long forehand in the world championships 2011, Lee Chong wei would be able to punish those shots as well. In the end everything comes down to shot quality, if the quality on the shots are not good enough the tactics wont even matter that much. So in my opinion, what is most important to study in these matches is the quality in everything they do. I would suggest an analysis on the match between Chen Long and Lee Chong Wei from the final of this year's olympics where you maybe compare the lenght of the shots, the placement and how close to the line their attack is and how tight the net play is. the big reason why chen long is beating lcw is that his quality is better so I would love to see an edited video on that! Btw - your videos are really good shuttle flash and I'm very happy that someone is keeping it up when I'm not doing it any more :D

This crosscourt forehand drop of LCW is his deadliest weapon. He is using it a lot against Lin Dan and all other players. The reason Lin Dan uses so much the push LCW to the forehand is because he is left handed and will have an advantage with most returns. If LCW tries to clear he gets smashed from the best side of LD, if he tries cross clear, it likely to get smashed, cross drop is dangerous too as you are out of position... So, LCW actually choosing the best option for him most of the time... Forehand corner is defenately the weekest pkace when you playing against lefthander, I have seen it on a few occasions.

That surprised cross-court dropshot has used at the exactly right moment and win LCW the biggest match point of his career. In my opinion, I am sure LCW have the ability to return the back forehand shot in anywhere he wants. But returning straight 90% of the time against Lin Dan might also part of LCW's tactics. *In other hand, some may not notice that Lin Dan is very good at blocking cross-court drop or smash. LCW knows this as well. This is all mind-games between Lin Dan and LCW, they understand each others games and ability.

i also noticed this clever strategy during this match. he kept lifting to a position where it's uncomfortable for lcw to take smash. he did the trick again at 2012 london olympic game when it got to a decisive third game.

The deceptive shot is imba, but it also has a weakness. It takes a longer time to reach the net if the enemy drops.

I think it's also because Lin Dan is left handed player, that kind of return by LCW is hard for right handed player to return the shuttle.. But because Lin Dan is left handed he got many option if LCW return the shuttle like that..you r very genius by figuring this out..

i think it's partially his main strategy too, keep peppering the forehand then attack the backhand.

I always thought that backhand strokes are harder than forehand strokes, Now that i know some players can be weak in forehand, i now know how to place the ball properly and not just placing it in Backhand. I always thought that Lin Dan was giving it to LCW's deep forehand because LCW is good at it but i now know it is his weakness, i guess LCW's backhand corner is better because there he can have alot of options to do while in forehand he can only have one option he does best at, drop.

Thanks for this. Interesting analysis. LCW's weakness is not so much his deep forehand corner, but the fact that he sometimes loses focus and plays a run of loose shots. Another example is his cross-court drop shot. Sometimes he will play these taking the shuttle very low, around his ankles, when he could have taken it higher. The result is a rising shot with his opponent frequently in good position near the net, so these can often can be picked off at the net. Even if they are not picked up, the return is usually a strong one that puts LCW immediately at a relative disadvantage and can quickly lead to losing the point.

according to me i think taufik hidayats main flaw is that he doesnt attempt to hit an overhead shot but often does a backhand shot.But according to him it is not a flaw due to his strong backhand power

I dont think its LCW weakness that he doesnt do varietions when he is shot with long forehand clear..its just he cannot shoot high at LD forehand because LD always has an anticipating jump smash coming..hes playing safe and LD is waiting for him to commit mistake..either a mistake in shooting too low drops or low enough clears..thats just my opinion though..

this is the point for all the badminton single players should focus! Is not weak point. Try watch all others match as well and observe it, this is the rule of badminton, try not to hit cross court. unless the opponent is totally out of position!
