*PLEASE READ*
Before you watch this episode and have concerns about Stratus products in regards to the close call, I want to say that I have been BLOWN AWAY by their customer service in regards to the mishap that occurred. Just prior to releasing this video on 10/22/20, Stratus reached out with yet another solution option, and that is to send me replacement parts to get this lift working properly again while I wait on the new 9000 to release and ship (DEC 2020/JAN 2021). Replacement parts include: lock arm, tooth bar and a new solenoid. Stratus said if I can get this one working properly again, they feel that it's best to just let me keep it AND still send me the new 9000 in DEC/JAN! Now that's customer service!
-----------------------------------------------------
On this episode of Forward Momentum I'll first show you how to properly operate a mid rise scissor lift. Second, I will show you some ways I have used mine in the first few weeks and how it has made working on cars so much better.
Finally, during the filming of this episode, I also experienced a failure with the lift that damaged the passenger side lift lock system to the point where I should not use the lift any longer. Instead of dwelling on bad circumstances, I try to make it a positive experience as no one got hurt. My car is fine too. And, Stratus clearly stands behind their products as I received a call first thing after the incident and I have now been offered a few different options to make things right.
Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe!

I ordered the 9000 extra-wide extra high commercial-grade lift, my first time using it I lifted my Dodge Ram and when I went to lower it, only one of the two locking mechanisms disengaged, my truck preceded to lower on one side and then fall completely onto that side on the support bars. Obviously, this was a catastrophic failure, and I will say that the support did send a new lift promptly, but upon receiving it When I first used it with the bucket of my skid steer in order to test it before putting that much weight, it was doing the same thing with one lock not disengaging. This was the 9000 E, then once we resolved that problem after speaking to tech support the other problem was my skid steer weighs 8400 pounds which is under the weight capacity, I noted this to the support team before our FaceTime call, during our FaceTime they gave me every way to troubleshoot why it was incapable of lifting 8400 pounds when it is a 9000-pound lift. Unfortunately, this type of lift needs to be recessed into the ground in order to lift that weight because if it is not 12 inches (because it is 4 1/2 inches to start and needs to be raised 8 inches to take the weight) then it can't lift much of anything. I did my due diligence, I called and spoke to the owner, read all spec sheets, etc. and this is NOT mentioned anywhere and is not advertised anywhere, and really should be because after doing all of the work to modify my space to accommodate this lift, it was all for nothing because This lift cannot do what it's advertised to unless it is recessed 1 foot into the ground, at that point the 40 inches that it can go up becomes 32 inches. Making every single number that they advertise false! Also, I would like to note that trying to lift the weight of the skid steer (8,400lbs) and having the lift raised about 6 inches before starting to lift with the weight, one side of the lift (closer to the control tower) was four inches higher than the other! This happened during the facetime call while I measured on video with a tape measure! Another dangerous situation. I do not think these lifts are safe at all, and after speaking to Technical Support the second time about this lift having a similar issue to the first one, and showing all of this on facetime, their response, after me having offered to share the shipping expenses with them to send back, and pay the difference for a 12,000 lb 2 post, then accommodate that lift again by digging again to install 6'' thick cement with rebar as I did for the scissor-type lift widening it for the larger width of the 2 post lift, they were going to do this and told me how much, to which I agreed, but then suddenly they didn't have any more in stock? (Even though Richard from the company assured me one would be put aside on a recorded phone call, and the website says "in stock ships in 1 day"), they somehow didn't have anymore? Then when I found another lift from another company as an alternative, they wanted to have me pay for all of the shipping expenses and a 30% restocking fee for a lift that never functioned properly from the first time I used it! Furthermore, I had a 20-minute conversation with the owner prior to ever purchasing the first lift describing my intended use for it, and whether or not it was capable of handling it also on a recorded phone call, during which I was assured that it could handle it. Obviously, that was bad information and I could have lived with all of this and been fair in making it right, but I was not met halfway clearly, this company really does NOT stand behind their products. I am trying to depict the actual events, and facts to the best of my ability in order to inform future buyers. I only wish I had seen a review like this before my purchase. Currently, my attorney and credit card company are handling this as my efforts at an amicable resolution were futile.

you're doing it the right way, the credit card company will put them out of business if they don't get their act together. Once you start the dispute process the CC company extracts the funds from the sellers bank account until the situation is resolved, thats a big stick. It only takes 3 disputes for the CC issuer to shut their account down. Mastercard and visa etc will not waste their time dealing with amateur hour venders.

I'm glad to hear that Stratus is stepping up properly and taking care of the ongoing issue with this lift. This isn't the first time I've heard of this happening with this very same model. I had considered going with Stratus until I discovered this has been a problem too common for me to feel confident in owning one. My second choice (determined by price only) has now become my first. Twin Busch seems to be the next best bang for my buck. T.B. is a little higher in price, but feeling confident that it can lift and hold securely 6,000lbs+ comes at a cost that I'm more than willing to pay.

You need to go up just a fuzz past when you hear the locks engage. That’s common even in large professional lifts. I am surprised it bent under those conditions. But it sounds like the company really stood behind their product.
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely. I finesse it now to alleviate shock load and it has been great. I believe it was a combo of the down speed (directions were backwards, since fixed) and a sticky lock actuator. The 9000 arrives today! Great service from Stratus!

The same thing happened to my lift also. The lock notches for the lowest locking position snapped clean off when engaging the lowest locking position. The car dropped to the floor. The forces on the parts locking the lift are at the highest at low lifting heights. The steel and welding of the parts are simply not strong enough to hold a car when the lift drops into lock if the drop speed is just a tiny bit to fast. The drop rate should be very slow in order to gently easy the lift onto the lowest locking position.

Noticed that one of the tooth safety racks is a little bit bent so I'm assuming the mechanic who owned this before had the same issue. Base on my observation make sure both safety locks clicks or engage i think they are not 100% synchronized, i noticed you stop or release the up button right away as soon as you hear the first click which is only 1 side of the safety lock engaged, not sure how many times you did it prior to the failure of the lift but that's what i see here, at timestamp 6:50 that looks like it failed already there good thing it didn't fell on you!, and when you put down the lift fully maybe something hit the top bar that you mention and pointed that has dimpled in, and couple days later fault section of the lift finally gave up, the next unit or replacement you'll get make sure you hear or see/check both safety locks engage, otherwise the problem will happen again and its very dangerous. goodluck!
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you’re correct; the lock actuators became unsynchronized and the instructions for the down speed adjust were backwards, which led to an unintentional force all onto one safety lock. I have the new lift design and released the episode on my channel. The new design is much better. I love it.

The back left corner lock was still engaged so the whole car started to tilt as it lowered. Luckily I noticed it quickly enough and lifted the car back up before a catastrophe. Scared me big time though. Just goes to show you how careful and alert you need to be around these things!

Dear All, im shocked looking at the equipment it self and the use of it. Im new to the group but have worked within the industry for over 20 years and would like to advise anyone who has one of these lifts or think of getting one the importance's that all lifts need to be bolted down to the floor (Other wise it is effectively flouting on the floor), never placing the vehicle off center of the processioning lifting points i.e. add uneven additional lifting blocks and never exceed the max lifting loads. With regards to the issue with the lock out system i my be wrong but it looks very muck like the lock out bar with the angled teeth is only fixed at the front with very small Alan key bolts. Like i said don't wont to upset and apologies if i have. kind Regards

Thanks for your comment. You should send your concerns directly to Stratus, not me. I’m just a consumer who shared my experience. I’m sure they would appreciate the feedback of a seasoned industry veteran such as yourself.

No worries. Some people comment assuming I work for Stratus or have regular meetings with them. I just wanted to be clear that your points may be best directed to them. Thanks for being polite. Take care.

You should've bought a Twin bush, better design and its blue the perfect color lol

The design is actually very similar and the Stratus is rated at 8K and the Twin Bush 6600. So saved a few hundred and just went with the Stratus. It’s working great now.

if he was bothered about safety why was he working in bare feet lol

Sigh…how many times do I have to explain this? When you film for KZfaq sometimes you shoot the footage after it happened in order to bring content to viewers. I don’t work on cars with bare feet normally and I don’t advise it either.

Chinese steel does not really make the grade they skimp on the important elements that combined with their poor maufacturing. To me it looked like maybe the 2 steel bars with the ratchet teeth were not properly aligned so when it clunked up and over only one went over and then you went down and the rest was history.

One of the release solenoids was slow and the weight came down on one bar. Stratus replaced the loft with a newer one, free of charge.

the lock rail should be welded to the baseplate, thats common sense. The whole locking design doesn't look good at all, I won't be buying one no matter how they make you whole.

That design has been discontinued. The 9000E they sent me has been awesome and I have used it for a few years now.

It was just for filming. I ran out to film something that already happened. Sounds weird, but that’s how it works with trying to capture footage sometimes. And I never work on stuff barefoot - ever. So, I agree with you in that respect.

Not USA metal. The lifts were made in China but Stratus is in the process of moving everything to Texas, including raw material procurement. Note: I replaced this lift with the 9000 and it’s a much better design. No issues. See my other video on the 9000.
