What Koby does, standing in the way of the marines, was something he actually did in the manga cover stories. although it was a difrerent situation, he went against orders to help helmeppo and thats what made garp interested in training him.

Yeah they even animated these cover stories, I think it's after Whiskey peak. And Koby even stood in Akainu's way, so it makes sense that he would do that with garp as well

@@Sergio-wm5duKoby’s views on codes and the Marines and justice had been shown throughout the whole series. He started out feeling very black and white. But then he came to learn “good marines, bad marines and good pirates, bad pirates”. Garp took him under his wing after learning of his personal affiliation with Luffy. And Koby starts to learn more about how the world works. He learns that even those who would be seen as “good marines” depend on leashed pirates to do dirty work they can’t soil their hands with. And so when finally faced with the extra truths, he finally determines what his code is. Uphold justice and stand up for what he believes in. In his view when he went against Garp, Luffy wasn’t guilty, Arlong and his crew were, and he refused to go against. Garp had already pointed out the importance of being certain, and he stood certain and firm in his decision. Garp has his own code, after all, it’s why he refuses promotions, so he can keep to his code with the freedom to do so. So of course he wasn’t going to actually punish those who stood against him because of their code of justice.

@@Sergio-wm5du the only reason was Garp beeing intrroduced only after water 7. Making Cobys prrogress in strength as well as mentality happening basicly invsible to the viwer, getting suprised to how he advantes to how he was ust shown in the manga recently.

See, now I remember that Garp does eventually take an interest in Koby and Helmeppo's moxie and decides to run 'em thru his personal training, probably a good way to keep them in the game as they head into dangerous seas. What I hope we see more of is Bogard, Garp's subordinate in the show/manga. When Koby jumps in front of those cannons when they're about to sink the ship Axe-Hand Morgan is running off with, Bogard makes deli meat outta the guns he was carrying, so hopefully the marine with the snazzy hat gets his time, I don't know if he does later or not.

Oda basically co-wrote the adaptation. A lot of the worldbuilding that the anime and manga got was not in his original plans, but since they exist now he's taking the live action as an opportunity to present a whole world from the beginning

Did he tho? He gave an interview saying that when asked by the creators of the show if he wanted them to do/not for something specific, he basically just asked them to respect his work. If he really co-wrote it, saying this would make no sense.

@@mandarina4157 I admit that the word choice was an exaggeration, but they were so loyal to him that after they stopped filming on a certain location (I forget the name) he said he didn't like that one of the characters was wearing a hat in a scene, so they went back to the location and re-did it.

Helmeppo IS meant to be Zoro's Marine rival. When Koby and Helmeppo run into the crew at Water 7, Helmeppo fights Zoro using swords, and Zoro notes he uses interesting blades. He's the Zoro to Koby's Luffy. Or, I guess, the Bogard to Koby's Garp.

As someone who never watched and probably never will watch the entire OP anime (bc of time constraints) I decided to watch the live action and I became so invested in the story. The fact that Oda knew many people on Netflix haven’t watched the anime, he made sure to make the live action storyline as a way to compact a lot of episodes into 8. Which is why i think he sped up character interactions in places where it should have happened later. I appreciate and love that he did that.

just watch the One Pace version. It’s a condensed version of the series where the pacing is as fast as the manga no slow unnecessary Toei animation scenes.

the live action got me started on the anime and enjoying it alot 100 episodes in, the only barrier people have to one piece i feel is the sheer amount to catch up on

The show runner mentioned it in an interview. They really wanted to include Hachi but they didn’t have the budget to make a six armed character work so he unfortunately had to be cut

@@raveoreynolds6049Sam Rami has a 200 mil USD budget (220 mil adjusted for inflation). One Piece has 18 mil per episode for a total of 144 mil. So Spiderman 2 has a much bigger budget. And Hachi 6 octopus arms is also much harder to deal with than Doc 4 mechanical arms because the arms has to look like it's alive.

I actually like the changes they made, it gives this story a breath of fresh air. Because if you want it to be exact to the anime frame per frame then... go watch the anime... obviously we have to take into account that Oda approved of the changes, and he even said that some of them were his doing, trying to fix or add things that he didn't like from HIS original story. Overall I believe Netflix did a great job bringing this amazing story to life and staying true to the soul of the story and the world Oda created so many years ago. This adaptation is proof that if you respect and love the source material then a good live adaptation is possible and can be successful... I can't wait for season 2 ❤❤❤

In one of the interviews with one of the staff members it was reviewed that Oda was hesitant at first to make Garp and Koby play a bigger role in the beginning of the story of the live action, but he eventually gave in and was actually happy with the result. They said they needed Garp and Koby to appear earlier into the story so they had something that "keeps up the stakes" and to keep the viewer intrigued by not letting it just be all about Luffy.

i agree that the live action isnt only for anime fans it for causals who cant sit and watch 1000+ episodes of something the live action did a good job of pushing past alot of stuff that didnt need to be seen and giving it to you in background information while still keeping the main plot of the season going i do agree Luffy vs Arlong could have been a bit longer but im good with how it ended also and i take the Luffy vs Garp at the end as something oda probably wishes he would have done and just did it lol

I get all the hardcore fans being onto with Matt Owens and the whole production team collaborating with Oda but the reason I watch RTTV reactions is cos they're like a lot of my friends who are still relatively new to anime and I find their perspective interesting and enganging to watch

I think the live action actually improved the Syrup village and Baratie arcs which kind of dragged on in the anime and didnt hit as hard emotionally. Arlong Park was better in anime though.

I disagree. Romance Dawn, Orange Town, and Syrup Village was MILES better than the anime, they fixed the pacing and kept only the important parts. Baratie was reasonable, although I didn't like the inclusion of Arlong, nor the exclusion of the other chefs in Baratie who defended the place. Arlong Park was the most damaged by only having two episodes. The main appeal of Arlong Park for me is not only the family bond of Nami, Bellemere, and Nojiko, but also Nami's relationship with the entirety of Coco Village. They even cut out the importance of Genzo and the relevance of Nojiko's tattoos.

tbh I wouldn't say Romance Dawn, Orange Town, and Syrup village are miles better at all, realistically I don't think they're better at all seeing as they dragged on way too long. I feel like Oda rewrote these arcs the way he would have wanted them to be if he could rewrite them. Arlong park is better in the anime but i think the live action nailed the first three arcs IMO. Also the atmosphere of baratie was nailed as well. @@paoloatianzar3624

We can only go up from here. East Blue was one of the hardest parts due to slow start. Once we hit Alabasta, this show we be GOATed. Hope they get Chopper right and maybe still include Broggy and Dorry

I did not like the anime, and I watched over 600 eps. It was extremely too slow for me and didn't pull me in. After watching the live action, I wanted to rewatch the anime. I wanted to see what else happened to Luffy and the crew. So I started watching the anime again. Lawd give me strength. LMAO.

I never thought the anime was a good adaptation of the manga, even well before the LA existed. What's entertaining and humorous in the manga, comes off as annoying when its delivered verbatim in the Anime.

Same. The manga is the way to go, best way to experience one piece. I find it irritating that the rabid fans keep suggesting people to watch the anime. Not only it is faster to catch up to the story reading the manga, and it's just plain better in terms of artstyle and pacing. The anime has censorship issues and is abnormally slow, especially after 300 episodes when the pacing will only get worse and worse. People easily forgets that the anime is also an adaptation of the manga. It is not the original, the anime changes things and in many case, not in a good way. Manga is a no brainer if you value your time.

I am one of those people who never really watched One Piece previously to this, I knew what the characters looked like etc but that was about it and honestly this show was a 10/10 for me. I think the show is very well done in all aspects, you can really see how much work they put into this, creating this world and making the characters feel realistic. I feel like we haven't gotten a story like this in a very long time, you know where it's just about the adventure, the strength of friendship and following your dreams without pushing or discussing any current real life social problems and making it super politic and having difficult sexual/ romatic relationships going on. Sometimes when well done and fitting it's very good but a lot of times today it's only done to be done, which often takes me out of the story. And we did get some political message with Arlong and the fishmen but it felt right and organic to the story and was not made the main plot and the overall message you were supposed to take from this. Sometimes we all just need a little break from our everyday struggles and problems and in my opinion the One Piece live action gave you exactly that. I'm super hype to watch the anime now as well. I don't know, I'll probably for now only watch up to the point of where the live acion left off but who knows, If I get too addicted I might just keep going😂🙏🏼

Plus additional info Loguetown arc will be the first episode in Season 2 as per matt owens the show producer and I think Jaimee Lee Curtis got the role already of Dr kureha but they dont wanna share it yet. And as what I've read that they are on the process of casting Vivi, Ace, Smoker, and Chopper's actor and maybe they will announce the chosen actors next year. I really hope they will give justice OPLA season 2. In Oda I trust. 👏

Usopp’s hammer works in manga and anime because it can be both serious and gag. In live action, it’s just bludgeoning someone to death and cracking a skull several times, not leaving a comical amount of lumps.

I think Garp storyline is something that Netflix wanted to add as a B plot. Oda didnt want to do this storyline.

more accurately, it wasn't oda's idea originally and he wasn't sure if he liked it at first, but after doing a lot of tweaking he ended up liking the results (specifically as a live action thing). so at least in this context it was an idea he came around on. which isn't to say anybody is obligated to like it just because oda did eventually sign off on it, but "oda didn't want to do this" misses a lot of nuance in what actually happened there
