I'm very hyped for this. I love the writer, the voice actors, and the art style is extremely beautiful. Can't wait to play this!

I didn't say this in the review, but if anyone was wondering, I romanced Pan on my playthrough. He seemed like a lot more fun to be around, and you do actually get an extra scene depending on who you pick!

Lemme say as someone who played this game? It’s fun, it’s an enjoyable experience. The art is nice, the songs are well written and there’s plenty of Greek mythology stuff to make any nerd happy. HOWEVER, some of the writing is really flat character wise and there isn’t much of a mystery to the murder mystery. Not getting to into but it is way to easy to know who did it seeing that every other character doesn’t have a motive but one. So would I recommend this game? Yes, honestly because it’s fun. But if your here for the murder mystery aspect than you will be disappointed.

Once More With Feeling, from ushering in some bi-erasure, to ushering on this Pan-fever. Review sounds very Telltale to me, ambivalent about Stray Gods being safe to backlog for a bit.

I couldn't get through the opening. I got to where right after Grace is given a chance to prove her innocence. The story wastes zero time introducing you to the plot, and does surprisingly little to develop, or endear us to the characters. I know these are Greek Gods... but like... they ARE characters written for THIS story. Grace herself felt very paper-thin, and her weird attatchment to Calliope despite having only met her for maybe... 5 minutes? Just had me feeling like I was watching public theater. Best way to put it from a bitingly mean live performance critics lens... It felt like the cheapest form of vaudville drivel you'd find in the worst part of town. Which is to say that, yeah it does have fantastic casting... but the deliveries stand to remind us why these people voice anime, and video game characters. I have no doubt they can VA... but the moment they think they can channel their inner thespian they let the drama and snark pour from their bodies. Maybe it's a case of direction... but games and anime have a very special form of melodrama to them Buffy was trash TV. It helmed the worst writer/director to grace our media. Good ol' Joss Whedon. I cringed so hard at the games presentation and writing that I asked for a refund 30 minutes in, because it hurt so bad... And before you comment, I LOVE musicals. My Faire Lady, Disney, Sweeney Todd even... I like even the lower quality stuff... this was worse than that stuff by large, large mile. It's the kind of game that will get hopeless theater kids hyped up and defend it as if it was the best thing on the planet despite the extremely myopic and vapid writing. Critical Role only hurt entertainment, a bunch of melodramatic VA playing characters and showcasing their voice range as they quibble, and quabble and make all the cheapest fans lose their minds. It's even got Mary Elizabeth McGuinn OOF! That lady is a complete jerk and horrendous person. Troy Baker is a diva if there ever was one... Laura is probably one of the only genuinly nice VA's on the roster. Ever since I was little, the obsession with nerdy VA has hurt my brain. I don't mind melodrama, but when the ENTIRE experience is held up by that - a person can only take so much. The art is fine, but the choice not to animate anything feels lazy and hurts the "musical" aspect. It's basically a choose your own adventure, musically animated comic. I personally didn't like the art style as it reminded me of ARCHER crossed with The Wolf Among Us. The game is bad as it leans on its writing, and songs... both of which are middling. If you like primetime WB or Netflix burner shows you'll like it I guess. If you want more than MCU style dialogue in the form of Doctor Horribles Sing-A-Long Blog avoid this.
