Your comments about Changbin's eye contact struck a cord with me. I think your observation about eye contact potentially distracting him is accurate, mostly because I find this true for myself. If I am thinking about what another person is telling me regarding life, experiences or personality then I tend to look away while I cycle through my thoughts and formulate my responses.

Changbin has always been a little cold to Han because he wants to push him to be more mature and an even better artist. Han is already shown so much love so Changbin can be the one to push him harder. He once said that he actually worries about Han the most especially with his anxiety. Changbin is the ultimate older brother of SKZ and really takes responsibility within 3racha to support the whole group!

I give them double credit as they are two very talented rappers within the same group and they probably spent the first years of their trainee life trying to be the better one. There must have been some kind of unhealthy dynamic within them but look at them now!

i love how you see changbin as i'm seeing him, the more i see him the more i see his quality. he's not just good at singing/rapping/producing but as a human he's just so great too in general. he oftens jokes here and then at shows as the funny one, but as you said, when they're alone like this we can see how he actually is. he's my bias for a reason.

Han is always looking for changbin’s validation and really looks up to him. Before changbin came to JYP as a trainee, Han thought himself above the other trainees (in his own words). He said that Changbin really helped in humbling him and they both now work together and although Changbin is a bit hard on Han(he’s not as affectionate with him compared to the other members), he really loves him. Such an iconic rap duo!

The way you described HAN personality, the way i more in love with him. Han is my number 1 ultimate bias from all of my biases on each every kpop male&female group. I see myself in his personality so much.

I suspect Changbin and eye contact is because he feels quite deeply. So when he's listening or thinking he doesn't make eye contact much at all because he is focussing and I think he can be wary of showing too much emotion inadvertantly. For example, in some older clips like on the survival show etc. you can see that Changbin really isn't the best at schooling his expression sometimes, if he's mad about something you see it. And the younger ones talked of how he could be kind of scary because of that I think. But also, Changbin was the first to cry when he got a letter from Chan when they debuted and his instinct was to hide it. He likes to be the protector but he's actually very easily touched by emotional or adorable moments. He feels so strongly I think he might be a little wary of letting that show too much. With a lot of the guys he controls it with a more playful or flirty persona. But he'll often go still if something deep is said like he's wary if showing a reaction before he's in control of the emotion he felt for it. It's one of the reasons I love him around Felix. At the very beginning Changbin was a little more 'bro' like, but Felix is so unfiltered in his expression and affection you now often see Changbin being surprised and delighted by something, or suddenly touched. And he sometimes says (playfully) that Felix is in unrequited love with him- but I think it's because the affection is so overwhelming Changbin can't always control the situation so sometimes he plays like he's being hard to get when secretly he's loving that open expression. Han is someone Changbin deeply respects and during trainee days these two were sort of twin stars so their relationship is so interesting because Han is the only younger one Changbin doesn't approach with the flirtier control the conversation style.

awww... I think you're completely right about Changbin and Han' relationship: there are so much of mutual respect, care, understanding... they don't need to say 'cringy' words to each other because they know what they are. I just adore these two

they are my two biases in skz for so many reasons but the main ones are they I relate to Han so much coz we have similar personality ( both introverts but when we're with people we fell comfortable with we became very hyped and also I relate to his anxiety) and he seems the type of person who won't ever judge you like you said and Chanbin I honestly would love to have him ad my big brother. I always feel like I could lean on him and he is my comfort person in skz, he takes good care of people around him and he'd make me feel very safe

I really don't think that Changbin avoids eye contact for emotional protection, and although cultural differences play a part, I also don't think that is the main source of his lack of eye contact either. I really do think that there are some people (I am one) who are distracted by eye contact when conversing and find it much easier to get close and intimate by avoiding eye contact. You notice in these 2 Kids Room episodes that none of his fellow members are bothered by his lack of eye contact. They know him well enough to understand that it has nothing to do with lack of interest or connection. They don't need it from him. Your focus in these videos is identifying good communication skills, and so you point out which behaviors support classic good communication. But there are other aspects to good communication. One of those is learning to accept divergent communication styles, learning to read the sincerity or intention behind non-standard behaviors. One reason Han is so popular and why you like him as a communicator, is that he is extremely accepting of divergent styles. He totally gets how present and sincere Changbin is, he does not need him to make eye contact, because he feels that total presence. We saw with Lee Know, who is not especially verbal, and who makes all kinds of outrageous comments partly because he just doesn't take words that seriously, that Han is totally unfazed--he is connecting with Lee Know on a completely other level than the verbal. The points you make about communication are useful and good, but it is also useful to remember that if your conversation partner is not following those "rules", they might still be actively engaged. Lack of eye contact is not always a sign of disrespect or distance. It can also be the natural style of a neuro-divergent person. Another aspect of good communication is learning to accept when one's own communication style does not fit the standard. Changbin does this very well. He knows what works for him, he is not ashamed of it, he has learned that it is easier for him to be present and attentive when he does not make extreme efforts to make eye contact. You could see the difference in his communication with Felix, who is very big on eye contact. In that session, Changbin really tried to make eye contact, and he was uneasy and giggly the entire session. When he was being most sincere and speaking most deeply, he was not looking Felix in the eyes. When he did make an effort at eye contact, his manner changed to a sort of "flirty and cute" style. Changbin really cares about all the members, and he cares a lot about Felix, so he often tries to do things which would put Felix more at ease, such as speaking English, making more physical contact, or making eye contact. But that session is a good example of what it looks like when people who have a very strong natural tendency toward a non-standard communication style, try to force themselves to fit the norm. Changbin was restless, kept changing the subject, interrupted Felix a lot (notice how he almost never interrupts Han) and often seemed to lose track of what he was saying. It is also funny that you identify Changbin as being quiet and thoughtful. That is definitely how he behaves in these one on one talks. But in non-formal gatherings, such as backstage or behind the scenes footage, or in filmed group outings, he is often really loud, he blows his top easily, yells, shows off, acts silly.....He seems to crave attention and compliments and does all kinds of things to get them from other members. He and Han live in the same 4 member apartment now, and they have worked closely as part of the production unit 3Racha (along with Chan) for four or five years now--since before Stray Kids was even a group. They have lots of experience adapting to one another, making allowances, working through disagreements. Aside from being friends and "brothers", they are also colleagues working in a fairly equal relationship, with a lot of respect for each other's skills. That gives them a lot of familiarity and ease with one another, which really shows in this session. Changbin is very aware of body language, but my guess is that he soaks that knowledge in via other channels than the visual.That is how I do it, and I know many kinesthetic people who also are very aware of body language without using visual cues. I understand that there are certain behaviors that tend to foster good communication, and that eye contact is one of those behaviors. But I also believe that it is important to encourage understanding of diverse conversational styles. I cannot count the number of times when I have been accused of being afraid, shy, angry, rude, etc. at times when in fact I was being my most alert, attentive and present self, when I had been giving many verbal cues to show I was listening, nodding my head to indicate attention, reflecting back phrases, etc (all of which come naturally) but because these people had learned to judge others based on certain things like eye contact, they were not able to get past that superficial aspect to recognize what was really going on. Han can do that, he can tell if people are really present regardless of whether they present in a "normal" fashion, and that is one reason why he is so effective as a communicator.

I watched their vlives since the first year, and even the survival show, Changbin really is good at speaking that is why the group relies on him when it's about talking. What he says always has deep meaning on it and is really sincere. That's how i got hooked to him while stanning SKZ. He also is a big brother to all the members including Chan on how he acts. They even said it on 2kids room. Chan relies on him so much. He cares for the younger ones so much that is why they love him and clings and cuddles with him freely❤️

i honestly think changbin processes and thinks very deeply at every second of conversation, that’s why he doesn’t look in the eyes. it probably distracts him from his complex thought process to make eye contact

Fun fact: Changbin can't multitask. I think his (for lack of a better phrase) lack of eye contact is a way for him to focus fully on what he is being told or on delivering the message he wants to convey, accurately.

Loved the reaction. Actually, if Changbin obviously loves every member, he definitely has a very soft spot for Han. It's not as obvious because it doesn't really manifest itself physically or by direct words, but perhaps when he talks about Han. In a video he almost cries talking about how he wants to protect him and how much he just wishes for Han to be able to make music he loves all his life so he can be happy. He also once said that his greatest fear for Han was for him getting hurt. So Changbin is indeed the big brother of the group, but esp for Han. :)

the eye contact thing with changbin is something i do often! i find eye contact distracting and i feel that i can absorb more info by not making eye contact and its something im working on so i can make others feel like im more receptive, but its cool to see that im not alone in doing that! thanks for unpacking that for us! your videos are always so insightful and useful i always love your content!! much love!

About the eye contact habit... I personally think that when I was little, I found people judging me maybe too often and this disturbed me too many times when trying to speak my mind out accurately. It was really bothersome even tho when I reflect on it now, I was the type to stare right into the person's eyes from the beginning to the end of conversations (to the point when people tell me afterward if there's something bothering me for me to stare at them 😵 I was just giving them my attention tho idk). Then I myself realised that my eye contact could make other people feel uncomfortable. That's when I decided to not give attention with my eyes in order to give people more space to express themselves (like if someone is giving a presentation in class, I stare away purposedly). If I don't look at them and look like I'm processing the infos, they'll surely speak out their mind comfortably. I wonder if this is Changbin's case too, especially since he talked about the fact that he kinda have trouble processing how people view him. If he has trouble with his image, maybe he felt judged a lot in the past by people's gazes. I think this can be the reason for Changbin's not looking at people speaking

I never noticed the eye contact thing but now that you pointed it out, it’s really clear retroactively! I’ve never once felt or thought that he wasn’t listening to the others though, pretty much the opposite. Like he focuses very clearly on the words and processes what they could actually mean. Also saw something about gentle parenting that said not to force eye contact with children as a sign that they’re listening, because there’s a whole slew of reasons why kids (and grownups too, I’m sure) look away when processing, immediately thought of that when you were talking about potential reasons.

Just a suggestion on Changbin's eye-contact... I find myself doing the same thing, but it has nothing to do with emotions or protecting myself. If I look at someone for too long or knowing that they are deeply tuned in, I will lose my train of thought for whatever important information that I'm trying to convey. Same for listening, and you mentioned that when he listens. I'm an auditory learner, so the tones of a voice and delivery tells me more than looking at their facial features ever will.

I've been subscribed to your channel since you uploaded one of the first skz analysis videos and i can't begin to express how happy your content makes me. Not only i listen and take note of a lot of your remarks and try to apply them to my life, but i'm also surprised at the way you can break down the guys' personalities as if you had been keeping up with them for years. Changbin once said he's quite self aware of his eyes. bcuz ppl used to think his gazes are very strong so he always tried to tone down his stares and smile more instead. i guess his insecurity becomes a habit

Fun fact! During one of the SKZ-Code episodes they were writing a song(Him, Lee Know and Felix) and he said himself his mind is going all the time. He's always thinking (which would explain his eyes darting as well.) But that's generally why, his mind is always going. Math Prodigy, violinist, dancer, rapper/singer. Understandably his mind doesn't shut off lol.

the members said a thing that Changbin can only do one thing at a time, like he explained maybe Changbin does it to focus on what the person is saying than making eye contact which makes him not focus in the conversation because he is trying to keep eye contact.

oh my god i am SO glad you reacted to this!!! these two probably have my favorite dynamic in the group, and i think i couldn’t have said it any better than you in this video. they’re just so effortlessly vulnerable with each other, and i love watching them bicker and tease each other because they have such different mannerisms. they have a deep connection, with changbin playing a huge part in han’s growth and the two of them making music and exploring different interests together, and they complement each other quite well, so i really loved being able to witness this conversation between them.

I am sure you know this by now but. Han was the first member bang chan pick changbin was the second. Those three were a group called 3racha for a while. They are now the subunit who handle almost all the producing side of stray kids and also produce songs for other groups ( Japanese groups included) So those three probably spend these most time together because they also share a dorm. (Hyunjin li e with them as well)

7:40 Changbin is known for not being able to multitask, he can’t hear anyone when he’s trying to draw something or finish a task, happens frequently. The eye contact could be him trying to focus his thoughts, but I do see it being him not getting too personal. He openly shares his feelings but doesn’t want to ‘feel’ them, if that makes sense 😂

I really really like your observations and, for the most part, they kind of articulate the things I've considered about them already. One thing I had only ever noticed on a subconscious level (ie never quite at the point of realization) that you pointed out was the eye contact, and as someone who's neurodivergent, I think I can explain this one if some similar logic might apply. For me, I *despise* eye contact from the depths of my heart. Like, when people look into my eyes, it gives me the same feeling as when somebody is asking you if you did something wrong, expecting it to be true, when you know you didn't do anything wrong but you're still in the hot seat. I can do it when I'm not thinking about it, so people don't often realize it, but if I think about intentionally making eye contact, it's super uncomfortable. Because of that, you're right. It's absolutely distracting and easier to pay attention if I'm not looking at the other person a lot. In that way and in the way of observations and compliments, this video has made me realize that I have a lot of similarities to Changbin, and I feel really humbled and honored by that since my appreciation and respect for Changbin only grows more for the exact reasons you've mentioned. As another side note, I think their constant creative partnership in 3racha as well as living with each other is a huge part of what adds to their bond with each other because there's so much intellectual, emotional, and habitual knowledge that you can learn about a person in those situations. I know Changbin seems really serious in this one, and he can be, but especially when you get him and Bang Chan together, there's also a much lighter side to him that just feels very refreshing to watch 😊 So thanks for what you do here!

Loved this video!! I always enjoy hearing your analysis of Stray Kids cause you catch things that really highlight their relationships and their personalities! About the eye contact, I don't know if this applies to Changbin or not but your comment on how you wonder if it distracts him from taking in information to make eye contact made me think of how I feel about it. I struggle making eye contact with people because it does distract me from what they are saying, I often find myself focusing on the fact that I am making eye contact and start freaking out about it and it becomes all I am thinking about so I end up not actually hearing what the other person is saying. My attention gets taken away from their words by my panicking about making eye contact, almost like my thoughts are louder then the other person. There is one person I don't feel this panic with, with some closer friends I can do it for a short period of time but in general I cannot make eye contact with people and be present in a conversation. After watching a lot of Stray Kids content and hearing your analysis of Changbin throughout the 2kids room I have often wondered if he feels this way too or if not making eye contact allows him to focus on their words, or like you said if it feels too vulnerable for him to do with the guys.

i’ve been following stray kids for quite a long while now and i too like changbin a looot. talking about the “OH” changbin blurted out when han started talking about him quitting his workouts to focus on music wasn’t a kind of “he just dissed me” reaction. i’m not fluent in korean myself, but after watching korean content as much i think the “OH” means something more similar to “wow wait i never thought about that” or like a realization moment (even if the situation is different for himself) kind of feeling if it was articulated trough a sentence. especially when changbin does, since he uses the “OH” expression quite often!

Your noticing of Changbin's aversion to eye contact really struck me--because I do the same thing. I can do better at making eye contact when listening, but when I am talking, I am looking everywhere but at the person I am talking to, lol. And especially if it is a serious conversation or deep or complimentary; I am really uncomfortable making eye contact then. It sort of feels like too much pressure and that I will forget to say something I really want to say. I feel like that is Changbin's habit too--especially knowing that he is horrible at multi-tasking 😆 Though he tends to sort of cutely or jokingly "brag" about himself, it is usually quick and sort of a throwaway comment, he gets very shy about compliments. I am the same way, I cannot look someone in the eye when they are genuinely complimenting me. I tend to joke or brush it off to quickly move on to something more comfortable to talk about.

A thought about Binnie's lack of eye contact... he **cannot** multi-task. Not even a little. So I think some of that miiight be reducing input so that he is focusing on listening to what he's being told when in serious conversation. 🤔

A lots of communication teacher says that having eye contact with people you are talking with is very important. But when I whach those conversation with you insight and observations well it seems that we can also not look in to person eyes to have a good conversation...

I do know someone who can't look people in the face when they're trying to communicate because it's too much information or distracting or something along those lines. They often try to reassure me they're paying attention verbally if they ever do that because sometimes people think they're being rude or just zoning out and they're really not. I don't know what it's like for Changbin, but that's something really interesting to consider. Thanks for this video, Max!

I think it's cringey for them cuz they really do act like brothers 😭 like how real siblings....they don't really go around saying "I love you" or acting all cute and older siblings usually tend to be more strict on you. I guess that's how Changbin is with Han and chanbin once said that Han is a member that makes him worried a lot. Not because he's in a bad situation or whatever but it just feel natural to feel worried about Han. He treats Han like a real brother. While for Han... from what I observed, just like Changbin said he's not that desperate for love from any members in particular. There's of course,members he's extremely close with but yknow it just feels like he can survive even if he's alone? He doesn't necessarily needs to be loved 24/7 lol. I guess that's part of him being an introvert. (I relate with him because when I'm with my friends I want to be the center of attention but actually I prefer to be in my room alone. There's that up and high moment)

I also avoid eye contacts like Changbin. Our reasons might not be same. But I do that because it’s too much for me to focus on the conversations going on and meantime making eye contact. I start stuttering if I try to do both at once. But when I am hyped, I make eye contact, talk loudly while jumping. It happens only with similar aged people whom I care about. But still it’s quite rare for me. So most time I behave like changbin (except I am not good at remembering things)

I think the reason Changbin doesn't look people in their eyes that often, is for the reason I don't either. I feel very naked during eyecontact (and not in a good way) and I feel it uncomfortable to look people in the eyes for too long. also I think better when I can move my eyes freely and zone out a bit :)

If you like you can read my long comment ,I write so long comments under your videos. Changbin doesn`t like to focus the conversation on himself so I think this is why he can`t keep eye contact for long time but he finds it easier with some people like Han because believe it or not he looked at himquite a bit. I think he tries to be composed since he is quite emotional but doesn`t show it as much so to do that he has to avoid eye contact a bit more,maybe he starts to feel too open if he doesn`t? Same with huging people he had that period as Han said after which he started huging both Han and Felix,I think because as he said before he realised he has to show what he feels more even tho he himsef crave attention but plays it off as if he doesn`t [like he reacted to Felix asking him if he is reeally hurt by him not texting as much] His observations work on himself too he is selfaware and knows what he isn`t that good at like he said here. And I agree he is interested in what other people think about him,maybe even too much in some cases for some things where he is self consious. He had live recently on Vlive and said how he is happy that STAY like 2kids room since he really like it too because of the opportunity for one on one conversation especially with the people from the second dorm [Chan,Han,Hyunjin and Changbin are in one dorm so he talks more often with them,Mee Know,Felix,I.N and Seugmin are in the other. Both dorms are in the same building but they still can`t catch up oneon one often because of the schedules,I reccomend you to see the live,it`s very fun one but also shows who he is again and how observent he is]. The loud -Oh is more like his comedic side +genuine reaction, he can be quite loud. Love how he waited Han to finish the working out excuse to make half joke holf serious statement that Han use excuses. I think Changbin really think that but also understands not all people are like him in the same Vlive he talked about each of memebers interests was praising them including Han love for anime and just being in his room. About Chamhbimm helping Han I think he helped in grounding him,showing him that what he does isn`t that good without hurting him or making himfeel small

personally for me I don't look someone I'm really so close with in the eyes especially when in a similar intimate setting because I always get overwhelmed when talking to/about them, like I always feel like crying when I do. so I avert my eyes, this is especially between me and my sisters. maybe it's the same with Binnie

I tend to avoid eye contact when talking to people too and a big part of it is because of what you said about Changbin, that it distracts me from fully paying attention to what the other person is saying (or what I'm trying to say) during a conversation. I'm trying to work on it because I've heard it's rude but it's hard TT

i’m like changbin as well. if i’m really focusing on what you’re saying, especially if it’s serious, i tend to not look them in the face so i can take in the information. i might get distracted if i look at them 😂

this is just from my instance but when i talk but not look at the person its so i can concentrate on what im saying so i was thinking it could be a case for changbin as well myb.

i usually do the same, when speaking/listening to someone i rarely make eye contact probably because it intimidates me, but mostly because i get easily distracted so when i see celebrities communicate the same way i do i feel comfortable and understood lol, another example is tyler from twenty one pilots, he’s also hyper emotionally aware of everything so you can say i have a type
