I added a Streamlight Macrostream (not the Microstream) as my EDC light a few years ago. I don't even remember why I chose it over the other models on display any more, but I'm quite pleased with it. The one problem I had with the light boiled down to user error--I now give the ends a twist to be sure everything is tight as I load my pockets, and all is good. I eventually bought two more--one for use while my first one is charging and one for my spouse. If the Microstream is anywhere near as good as my Macrostream has been, it would be an excellent pocket light for many folks. And, for those who carry a firearm with a mounted light: A separate flashlight is a very good idea, as when using a separate light, you aren't "painting" someone who isn't a threat. I find myself with many uses for a good EDC flashlight that don't involve any need for a weapon.

I wonder how much difference it would make if you used a lithium AAA in that model. My suspicion is that it may be brighter. Also, I feel confident that the run time would increase substantially.

I picked my aaa version up recently for 12 bucks. I regret not getting a few more.

At that price you should have both.

I hated the USB model. The AAA model is just fine and takes any rechargeable AAA cells and will run well over 3 hours on them. Cheaper, smaller and all the light you need unless you need a LOT bigger light. In that case actually use a light that can run the tactical high output for longer, using a more suitably sized cell. The USB model is just a proprietary 10440 cell. Trust me you will be disappointed in the high mode after a few minutes. If you have a normal 10440 cell it will run fine in the AAA model (even though not recommended). In the end, if I need 200 lumens or more, I'd go with a larger light.

Had my usb for 2 years. Still works great. My son uses them everyday as a Toyota mechanic. His take a good bit of abuse and they keep running. His only problem is he keeps losing them.
