P L O T:

I have not read the books but I think I’m gonna. I saw the movies and they were ok as stand alone movies but I knew nothing of the source material so I really had no interest in the books based on the movies. After watching the show and hearing about what the books are about and how Reacher is I plan to get into it soon. I love these kinda characters that are who they are. Like in Yellowstone where John Dutton says “I am the opposite of progress. I am the wall it bashes against. And I will not be the one who breaks.”

Reacher is a simple character. You don't need a lot of effort to explain him. Reacher has a strong sense of what's right and wrong. If you're wrong, he'll make you see the error of your ways. He wants to be left to live his life his way. If you interfere with that, he'll let you see the error of your ways. He has a strong sense of loyalty. There's nothing more to him.

Exactly. He's like Eastwood's "Man with no name" character. The appeal of his adventures is not how he reacts or develops through them, but just the spectacle, badassery and cunning he displays through them. And once it's finished, he just moves on to the next one, like it's a task in the office.

Something I appreciate about the show is that when the women go to fight someone twice their size, they fight them in a smarter way because they know they can’t overpower them (they use a knife, they avoid/counter blows, they try to get their hands on a gun, etc). It’s not that they aren’t tough or incapable, it’s just that people seem to forget that men literally have an extra layer of muscle that women don’t have. Neagly and Dixon were my favorite characters in season 2, I can’t wait to see the next season.

Please tell me you’re joking. This season is COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE. It’s now the standard woman empowerment fantasy. This series is more of a Disney movie and if the books are similar then no thanks. Enjoy your unrealistic entertainment.

@cbrock5529 the only problem I had with season 2 it just felt so unrealistic the villains were so dumb they had Reacher and his friends dead to rights and somehow they mess it up. Of course the hero should survive but at least make him struggle at no point in season 2 I asked how is Reacher going to get out of this situation but besides that the show is good. I think Neagly might return next season but it's unlikely Dixon will though.

@@jackbauer5455 I agree that it felt more like a run of the mill action movie, but that’s also not the point I was trying to make. I was just expressing my opinion on the fact that the fighting felt more real and practical rather than something so absurd that it becomes painful to watch.

Thank you for making a show that I can watch with my 90 yr old dad...we love it ^2. My dad stills works and he's a very fun and loose kind of risk taking guy, while I'm the numbers person who runs the business behind the scenes. When I get frustrated with his lack of details I say 'details matter' and we both laugh instead of arguing. That is priceless.

I am not sure that I can wait until 2025 to see the third season! I have read every Lee Child book that has been written, I have had to wait months for the next book to drop! I am an old man I need them delivered faster so I get to enjoy them all NOW! Come on people! This old man wants MORE!

I love that the producers trust the characters that Lee Child created. Reacher and Neely in the series are the very same as Reacher and Neeley in the books. Maria Sten even looks a bit like I imagined Neeley to look when I read the books. It's so rare for Hollywood producers and writers to not think that they know better than the author, and mess around with the characters and storylines (witness the two Tom Cruise movies) that made the book(s) popular in the first place.

This was all great. I especially like what Alan Ritchson said: not every story has to have “character arcs”. Some stories, in any medium need that. But some don’t. REACHER in the books has almost zero arc or “growth”. The story is driven more by plot, circumstance, setting, situation. And it works. There’s no reason it shouldn’t work in the television medium. And so far, it is working.

I like the first question Alan answered. My husband and I actually talked about changes in Reacher from season 1 to 2. Season 2 shows how Reacher listens and trusts his team. It also shows that he understands that others think is life his lonely, but he is going to live his life his way. I think Alan does a great job showing the audience what Reacher is thinking and sometimes even feeling without words.

I don't think I have ever been so emotionally attached to a character than Neagley. I don;t even know why, but I guess as a female Veteran with some issues it just makes me feel represented. I truly hope they let that relationship develop as deeply as possible. I think if they ever touched it would make me weep, but i would love to see Reacher being the only one she trusts enough to touch. Maria Sten is killing it as Neagley and I wish I could tell her what her character means to me.

Ritchson is right. Why the persistent concern for character arc? This I've observed in countless comments on movies. I blame this on too many people going to film school and those taking to heart all assertions of film vloggers. In reality no person changes overnight. Takes years. How come some movies in the past can tell a good story with engaging characters without showing a templated character arc?

Reacher character is beloved because you know what you are gonna get from him. The stories stay interesting because the bad guys and setting change. You need good bad guys and back stories to throw Reacher in to. It is the same reason Clancy’s Jack Ryan character is iconic as well in both books and movies

i think thats what great about this series , its fresh and new everytime, but some may or may not like it either way even if it was a continuation. personally i like it, its something new to look forward to. i may be speaking on behalf of some people that went through great shows like the walking dead which some would agree that it should've ended early instead but thats just my one pence. its one show that doesnt push the strong female narrative down your throat for once.

Season 1? Awesome. True to the books and really fun. Season 2? Couldn't get past ep 1 becauae it was so bad--dialogue, acting, story set up, etc.--that I couldn't do it. It's bad enough that Lee Child let his brother ruin the book series, so I don't want to risk or taint my memories of the early books that were so excellent.
