Whilst not selling as many copies as the previous Street Fighter II releases on Super NES (6.3 million and 4.1 million respectively), Special Champion Edition managed to sell 1.65 million copies, becoming Capcom's only Mega Drive title to surpass more than a million unit sales (a feat only repeated by one other Capcom title on a Sega system; Resident Evil Code: Veronica on the Dreamcast).
Special Champion Edition brought Sega's console onto a level playing field with Nintendo, and particularly made an impact in regions where the Mega Drive was the dominant system over the Super NES (specifically countries like the United Kingdom, where Special Champion Edition was a highly publicised best seller). Computer and Video Games, for example, hyped it as the world's first 24 megabit console cartridge, and said it has better graphics and faster performance than the SNES version of the original Street Fighter II[4].
The game's scratchy voice samples were a subject of criticism upon release, but rather than being attributed to hardware limitations, it has been proven that it is a result of poor programming. A fan made hack of the game testing this theory exists on the internet, showing that one can successfully replace the sound driver (leading to higher quality sample playback) without changing the ROM size significantly (i.e. it would still fit on a 3MB/24Mb ROM cartridge like the unmodified version).

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior[a] is a competitive fighting game developed by Capcom and originally released for arcades in 1991. It is the second installment in the Street Fighter series and the sequel to Street Fighter, released in 1987. It is Capcom's fourteenth game to use the CP System arcade system board. Street Fighter II improved many of the concepts introduced in the first game, including the use of special command-based moves, combo system, six-button configuration, and wider selection of playable characters, each with unique fighting style. It prominently features a popular two-player mode that obligates direct, human-to-human competitive play which prolonged the survival of the declining video game arcade business market by stimulating business and driving the fighter genre.[9][10] It inspired grassroots tournament events, culminating into Evolution Championship Series (EVO).[11][10] Street Fighter II shifted the arcade competitive dynamic from high score into human competition, including large groups.[9]
Street Fighter II became the best-selling game since the golden age of arcade video games. By 1994, it had been played by more than 25 million people in the United States at home and in arcades. Due to its major success, a series of updated versions has additional features and characters. Worldwide, all versions of Street Fighter II have more than 200,000 arcade cabinets and over 15 million software units sold, grossing an estimated $10 billion in total revenue, making it one of the top three highest-grossing video games of all time as of 2017 and the best-selling fighting game until 2019. More than 6.3 million Super NES cartridges of Street Fighter II have been sold, making it Capcom's best-selling single software game for the next two decades and its best-selling game on a single platform. Street Fighter II is regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time and the most important and influential fighting game ever made. Its launch is seen as a revolutionary moment within its genre, credited with popularizing the fighting genre during the 1990s and inspiring other producers to create their own fighting series. It sparked a renaissance for the arcade video game industry and impacted competitive video gaming and wider popular culture such as films and music.

That's because the CPS1 board is based on the Sharp x68k. Capcom used this computer to develop CPS1 games.

Technically the arcade game is a copy of this port. The arcade game was programmed and developed with x86000 systems. What you hear is the sound and effects as implemented by the developers. So in sense back then you literally could play a port better than the arcade at home if you had the money. However the controls and load times suck. As well as you need a plethora of midi devices to hear the music and effects in all their glory.

Some of the voices sound way clear than even the arcade port, it looks and sounds amazing, for a realtime port, for that time period, it’s just mind blowing, it was expensive as hell but, you know you’re getting what you paid for.

Yes, proof it was the development machine, and the audio downgraded for the arcade. Although I prefer the arcade punch and kick sounds.

@@alexojideagu I prefer the SNES sounds, esp the punches have more "Punch" to them imho. But interesting that X68000 was the dev machine for SF2.

@@RaptureMusicOfficial Yeh the SNES and Arcade are my favourite punching sounds, although I slightly prefer the arcade. That was one of my biggest dissapointments of Super SF2 the punch sound in SNES and Arcade. Also SF3 Third strike they ruined the punch sound from SF3 2nd impact.

Will you make a video showing only these clean audios? Also, are the ORIGINAL audios so clean like these? Not those muffled ones in the arcade? If this is true, it's a proof that the recorder was actually "modernly" good
