Uzbekistan Day 1: Tashkent
On Day 1 in Uzbekistan we went on an ultimate Uzbek street food tour in Tashkent, including the biggest bazaar in the city, and the most massive plov (rice pilau) cooking in Tashkent.
We had arrived at the airport in Tashkent at about 4 am in the morning, and at 9 am we were ready to start eating our way through the city.
First we met up with Bekruz and Akbar both from the Ministry of Tourism Uzbekistan (Bekruz is the one who invited me to Uzbekistan and arranged everything for us, so thank you Bekruz!), and Ravshan (check out his channel: kzfaq.info/love/lLf..., a local food vlogger in Uzbekistan.
Two of the most important phrases you should know in Uzbek are:
Assalomu Alaykum - Hello / Greeting
Rahmat - Thank you
Bread Bazaar, Tashkent - We started this ultimate street food tour at the bread bazaar in Tashkent, a market dedicated fully to bread, with a little fruit and other things mixed in. We bought some break, some kaymak, and some fruit and then went to a nearby restaurant where they laid everything on the table for us, along with tea. Uzbek breakfast was a great way to get started.
Chorsu Bazaar - The grandest bazaar in Tashkent is Chorus Bazaar, and it’s a perfect place to get a feel of Uzbek culture and food. We first stopped at the food court to try hanum, a type of dumpling filled with potato and somsa. Then we continued to the dome shaped iconic part of the bazaar, filled with fresh meat and spices. It’s one of the coolest market structures anywhere in the world.
Plov Center - We kind of had to rush out of Chorsu Bazaar because although they prepare 1,500 Kilos, seriously, of rice plov per day, it only takes 2 - 3 hours before they run out everyday. So we got there, already one of the monster swimming pool pans was finished, but they still had a few others going and serving. Plov is the national dish of Uzbekistan, a food that’s eaten on every and all occasions. For Tashkent plov, it’s pretty heavy on the meat at oil, with rice, chickpeas, and raisins. Also it included, qazi - horsemeat sausage which is a delicacy. It was incredibly delicious, and proper meal experience.
Total price - 100,000 UZS ($12.21)
Plov is love, remember that when you’re in Uzbekistan.
National Food Restaurant - After strolling around for a while in the afternoon, we continued to a National Food restaurant, a laid back family style restaurant that serves all things Uzbek food. Along with a number of dishes, the main dish I was most interested in was the naryn, thin slices of dough mixed with minced meat and horse. It was interesting, and quite good, as were the other dishes.
Total price - 110,000 UZS ($13.43)
Sultan Suleyman Restaurant - For dinner we went to a bit of a fancy trendy restaurant, and had another platter of food. This time, dough noodle like sheets topped with meat, horse sausage again, and green onions.
Total price - 122,000 UZS ($14.90)
It was a day of learning, eating, and meeting some amazing people along the way. Thank you for watching this Uzbekistan food tour!

Uzbekistan is the country where hadhrat bukhari was born nd today every Muslim all over the world reads or practices the hadiths written by him. Taashkent was one of the most popular cities during the silk route era, the biryani in india is a fusion of the pulaaf nd indian spices. Pulaaf is popular in Afghanistan/uzbekistan etc.basically this region .

I am Mexican American, I visited Uzbekistan July/August 2017. The most beautiful country I have ever seen. I am Muslim and I wear a hijab, so I didn’t attract much attention and blended in. Once people found out I was American, they would go to the house I stayed in and leave so many gifts for me. Last year, I married an Uzbek and I plan on moving to Uzbekistan in the future to raise our children. I recommend this country to anyone who wishes to travel to a safe, hospitable, historic, and clean place. Assalamu Alaykum friends.

It depends on your financial situation. Many people want to leave Uzbekistan, and even it is the country that has the most green cards offered from the US. It’s been a year. I’ve not given a penny to anyone. Only to our parents, as it is custom in his culture and mine. I’m a strong independent woman, and they know I’m not to be messed with or used. Uzbekistan, may be “dirt poor”, but the people aren’t. Yes, they have bad seeds, as do all countries and peoples, but I see potential in this country. I see a young country that is growing and expanding. Here in the US, i cannot have much effect, and I see the way it is turning to no return. I am American. I love my country, and I always will. My children will automatically be American, regardless of where they will be born. I want them to study here in my country. Why not in Uzbekistan? Because it is not completely developed, I want my children to gain the most knowledge possible and take this knowledge to Uzbekistan. If people keep leaving and leaving, taking their money and knowledge then Uzbekistan will not grow. I know the Uzbek culture. I didn’t buy furniture for my husband. I didn’t buy his suit or clothing for his side. See, because I’m Muslim and they know this. Before I am American, before I am a foreigner, before I am anything, I am a mere servant of God. I know my rights and I have my pride. They should have a pride too. I show my knowledge, and I show that I should not be stepped on. I am not disrespectful, but I am fair. This is good for me, it is good for me to be a foreigner because they will blame any “unusual” behavior to that, and that’s okay. I love my country. I love Uzbekistan also, and like many people who travel abroad and try to help the world, I want to do as well. I’m sorry many people don’t see the potential in this country. I’m sorry many of your relatives want to leave. It is probably due to money because they have to offer the same things I have here in America. Anyways, good luck to you and your family and I hope they can find the wealth they are looking for.

THANK YOU! This video was somewhat emotional for me. Uzbekistan holds a special place in my heart. In the last few years of my father's life, he travelled there as he was invited as a guest speaker of a conference. He loved it so much, he returned the last year of his life. After every trip he came back home with gifts of Uzbekh hats , shawls and earings from the market. He told me stories of the places you visited and raved of the bread, cheese, fresh figs that you ate. Your video gave me a visual glimpse of what my father had experienced in his last and final travels, and made me understand the culture he grew to be fond of! Thanks Mark.. I will definately be watching this serie.

I cooked this last for New Year’s Eve and it came out absolutely incredible, I had to order the Uzbek spice that came with the black raisins. I did not want all of the oil so what I done was cook the meat in peanut oil first then poured it off. The rice I used was official Turkish pilaf rice. Omg!! It came out perfect and today we get to enjoy the leftovers with different smoked meats. I can’t wait LOL and it’s only 8:02am!

I am just glad that you are enjoying friendly and hospitable people of Uzbekistan. It is "different" there, but I think it is good kind of different for travelers who enjoys exploring different people, culture, lifestyle. Thank you for agreeing to take this opportunity and visiting Uzbekistan. The reason I was even more happy is because I always watch your video and have always been your fan.
