Wow! I, too, just love to use shadows in my images. With all the attention to HDR techniques, it seems we have forgotten how to use shadows to accent our images by letting shadows be shadows. I describe this approach as "shaft of light". By the way, I have been studying under your friend, Valerie Jardin, for some time now and also live in Minneapolis. Enjoy your videos immensely.
