The underdog here is ER6n. Many would be surprised to know that ER6n dominates the torque curve till 8000rpm even when compared to the 106ps version of ST3. So ER6n will have a better in-gear acceleration figure on the highways. Of course, ST3 will get the lost ground after 9000rpm. Anyway, hardly one drives above that rpm range on the highways. Still er6n is much chraper than st3.

Lots of things have mushroomed on the internet with regards to the detuned STriple675. But as your video shows it is not a slow motorcycle despite losing 25 horses. Triumph said this was the one they sold right from start & auto journos praised it for it performance, chassis & handling.It was hailed as the best naked, period! I myself was in seventh heaven when I test rode this gem of a machine. But Triumph misled it customers and that's a big shame from a renowned manufacturer. The VFM proposition has been lost and scales have tilted in favour of Kawasaki. May be a price cut or launch of Triple R/RX at the same price will bring triumph out of the ashes. I still cant agree that Arrow & map change will bounce it full 106 ps. Does the dealer do the engine map change as well? I still don't think there is any middle-weight naked that matches STriple. The joy it gives every time you ride it is unmatched and will always leave a big smile plastered on your face. Its high time Triumph goes back to their drawing boards and resolve the issue asap.

Good vidoeo but not sufficient enough to ease the delima prospective owners like me have. Need a proper back-to-back comparison of the Kawa Z800 and the Souped-up version of the Street triple 675, and I mean a full on road test viz topspeed, roll-on acceleration braking and overall riding experience of the souped up version of the street triple.

Triumph is still more refined then both kiwi's . Z800 has almost 125cc advantage on street triple and still difference was marginal. Triumph also have more brand value and nostalgia.

+Suraj “The ALPHA” Tomar The Z800 probably has the smoothest engine that you can ever ride. No hiccups whatsoever. Would you really think about nostalgia when buying a motorcycle. Having said that, the Street Triple is one of the best bikes in it's category today.

+Suraj “The ALPHA” Tomar The Z800 has a comparatively 'safer' styling as opposed to the bug-eyed Street though I have a place in my heart for the latter too. Ergonomically, both should be on par since they aren't all-out race bred. Lastly, when it comes to feel, there's nothing to it really. It's all subjective - you may have that 'feel' with a Kwacker, Beemer or HD while someone else may 'feel' for that teensy Splendor or anything else :D Cheers.

Triple's engine and performance is pretty much better than Z's. It really has more power at the midline and it spools up like hell to 12000 rpm. Besides it really feels much easier to drive, as it has a really good frame and cycle parts. Speaking of what, I own a Street Triple R and I owned the Z800 before.

The weight of the rider makes a difference in the comparison. The Street Triple with a lighter rider gets punished less for the lower power and torque. That said the Z is heavy, very heavy, almost Harley territory at 230 kg. The street is light, has a lighter clutch and easier to use in the city. Not to mention if you are anything less than 5 ft 9 inches your feet won't be planted on the Z800. The Z is a lakh cheaper against the street with arrow. Very tough toss up, indeed

+Sivananda Rajaram That is exactly why we do not do "drag" races. Top speed runs are best done with standard testing conditions. Hence both the bikes were gunned back to back by our tiny racer in the same riding conditions

Thanks mate, greatly appreciate your reply. What are the approximate bhp and torque figures with the arrow exhaust. The showroom says about 90bhp but don't know the torque. Personally, because of the height 5ft 9 ill probably buy a triple.

People who will never end up buying this bike (coz they are broke,) will definitely talk shit about the street triple but trust me, with or without vimal sumbly's fuckup .. The Triple is really a awsome bike.. Nothing against the z800 owners here.. The z8 too is a brilliant package.. But seriously u guys need some THC and chill the fuck over this issue..

True that! While we wouldn't call what Triumph did, or how it went ahead addressing the issue, as fair but the triple is still a sweet motorcycle! A little more promptness and diligence from Triumph would have gone a long way.

Typical snobby response to the fiasco. Very typical of a few individuals ! The point is not where a bike is awesome or not ! It is one of the best but producing false figures to boost sales, that is absolutely illegal. Also, the issue could have been handled much better. And as far as I know, these options have not reached all owners, especially the ones who are not aware of it. Cashback offer is a huge grey area too !

Street triple is quicker not faster than z800. Cos z800 has additional 30 horses which makes it conquer the top end. Street triple is indeed a beautiful machine .! One of my fav

Guys, I've a confusion... Triumph compensated the customers of Street triple with a 1 lakh cash back offer or with accessories & remapping equivalent to that amount. So doesn't that mean the detuned Striple ought to be lakh cheaper? In markets like Japan when both 85bhp & 106bhp variant are available, the detuned one is priced lower. This hefty price tag in India doesn't seem justified IMO :)

nope, that was because the customers were not aware that they were getting a 79 PS motorcycle. They thought they were getting a much powerful bike. So to make amends Triumph offered this solution. New customers know what they are getting, so no price reduction for that. More like take it or leave it :)

5L ex-showroom for the 72ps ER6N vs 7L ex-showroom for the stock 79ps Striple. Is the price STILL justified? The striple is a brilliant bike, but isn't it (now) overpriced?

You don't judge by just the PS / torque number !!! The triple is, well, an astounding triple engine with top of the line fittings and finished exquisitely inside an epic frame that gives a second-to-none ride quality !

sourjya guha my point is now that the power rating is redefined, what exactly are we paying the premium for? moreover, if it is such a grand pleasure to ride and a 'second to none' experience, existing owners shouldn't be compensated with 1L either. just tell them to enjoy the second to none experience, because apparently that justifies everything. bikes from the same category from rival bike makers cost much less, and aren't exactly made of wood.

What does it mean to be detuned? Is the engine same as the one offered in global market with a different map?or is it different all together? Also is the street triple review on the cards?

"De tuned" means tuned to make less power than the stock power level the motor was planned for. Companies sometimes do this to make a motorcycle easier to ride in bad traffic or road conditions. Sometimes its to give slightly better fuel economy or to make the motorcycle pass strict emissions laws in some countries. OR.. the country involved may be inhabited by Russians or even worse, Chinese motorists.

Besides this I also posted on the PowerDrift fb page. Please please please repost it! Trideep Choudhary Seems like Triumph Has agreed to offer compensation in terms of a cashback or accessories to make up for the episode. That is quite fair for the owners now we guess!

I'm gonna have to go ahead and call bullshit on this. An exhaust and a map will NOT gain 0.3 seconds in 0-100 at this level. Can you reveal how many attempts did you do on the stock bike (which fetched a 0-100 time of 4 seconds) ?

Triumph sold the detuned variant with restricted exhaust which made 27 bhp less than its European model. The exhaust and remap simply bumps it back up to 106 bhp. Thats about a 35% increase in power, so 0.3 seconds quicker may very well be possible.

you also must consider that going over to an aftermarket exhaust can save you up to 15 pounds of weight sometimes.. so the power to weight ratio also gets better.

mclarenrocks Why do you assume I have no basis for making that claim? I'm saying that they'd be lucky to shave even a tenth off the time with a simple exhaust+ecu upgrade. Theory of marginal gains. That's the whole reason why 110hp supersport bikes do 0-100 in 3.1-3.2 seconds and literbikes with 180+ hp aren't that much faster. I don't say that PowerDrift are making up the data (I trust them to not do that), but I have my doubts about testing methodology, calculation and rounding errors etc.

Gee! Ayush! We did a tad bit more effort than dispensing a prophecy online :) What you see are the vBox results of the best timings clocked by the same national racer, in similar riding conditions! There are good reasons why the world categorises exhausts and piggybacks as performance systems ;) Optimised fueling, lighter exhaust, lesser back pressure due to a performance tuned exhaust will only help the motorcycle go faster. Like it did in this video :) @Mehul - That is an incorrect assumption! While we don't know what all has changed in the internals. (and we would love to strip one to the last nut and bolt!) But plonking the exhaust and the new map would not alter any hardware limitations with the motor. We are merely measuring it for its upped performance.

The street triple is already 50k more expensive than the Z800. with the arrow slip-on and a race fuel map it will cost another 70k extra. so to sum it up it's about 1.2L more expensive than Z800 which already a terrific value for money way more powerful than stock street triple. I would rather spend my money on Z800 and with the 1.2L extra I would throw an Akrapovic slip-on and a custom ecu flash from race dynamics.

+PowerDrift I didn't mean the street triple is a bad motorcycle. My point is, for someone like me who is trying to save every single penny he can to buy a higher capacity motorcycle, the price is a big concern. even if I don't go for any mods that I said, I could invest that money for some decent riding gear. I do like the street triple too. I watched your review, which I must say is simply terrific and I talked to some of the triples customers. They have no complaints about the bike.

Its not a question of which one is fastest .. If you or me or anyone is buying a 500+ cc bike in India will definitely wont like to be given falsified information about .. As we all know buying something like this here costs a bomb and only a handful of few are able to achieve they're dream of owning one ..

Vysakh K Triumph India has come up with some options for the existing customer. Head out to the nearest showroom if you are one. :)

Haha. I'm not one, thankfully. I thought I read somewhere that they had given there options where one of them was the exhaust and other kits, but still the customer had to pay something. Maybe I read wrong. Anyway, nice to see some improvement. Any idea how it fares with an actual 106bhp one?

Akash Dolas no bro, triumph's bikes are best in some of their respective segments, but indian version is tuned down version and triumphs bikes are also expensive to their competitors
