Manufacturers nowadays have a hate boner for anyone repairing or even maintaining their own vehicle. I'm sure a big part of the sticker price is due to research and development of ways to make it harder for DIY people and more lucrative for the service department.

Remember when obama hussain tried to pass a law so we couldnt buy parts and fix our own cars, we would have to take it to a dealership. But all of us dealer mechanics didnt let that happen because what are they gonna make us sign our cars into the shop and have someone else fix it when we are certified techs that are supposed to do the fixing… so ya that didnt work out for him so he made CASH FOR CLUNKERS, and it paid a lot of money for craps ass cars, but what most people didnt know was after they traded the vehicle in it will never see the junk yard. They make us pull the vehicle in the shop immedialty and dump liquid concrete in the gas tank and engine then bounce them off rev limiter till they lock up and the entire vehicle is usless and then cash for clunkers shows up and hauls them directly to gwt melted down… ever wonder why you cant find parts or cars in junkyards that why and really only dealer mechanics knew about this because we had to destroy the vehicle the government forced us to do it. So that meant buying the cars at high prices so people would fall for it but hey didnt know that trading them in was making them disapear by the millions of cars and truck amd after the fact everyone was mad but open your eyes they paid 3,000 for a piece of shit thats not even worth $500 just to melt them down so no parts can be had. We pretty much got rid of two generations of vehicles all acrossed the usa

@@heathkill4821 I definitely remember cash for clunkers, I was there. I saw so many engines roll out the back door into the beds of pickup trucks, in the hatches of minivans and even in the trunks of cars. Harmonic balancer is the common name for it. Same part. Just a fact.
@dannylinc6247
@dannylinc6247 Жыл бұрын
@@crimsonlight4205 that's not the name of the correct part. But you can go in the aftermarket and call it a jet propulsion bamboozler if you want. It dampens torsional thrust and distortions made during power pulse, so, it's called a dampener. The engines balance is made at the opposite end of the crank as required. Not knowing, some twit assumed it balances and "misnomered" it in the afternarket. It's common to call margarine made of hydrogenated oil, butter. And you could lose loved ones before you figure out you're being misled by fools. You can do whatever you like, you're just not correct using incorrect terms and spreading it. It perpetuates ignorance, so it's noteworthy. I would have lost points in tech school and had a low GPA if I was like you. It's too expensive to give years to training and study to have never read a proper service manual and be the last guy at the part counter to get help for my customer. Foreign language to a real counterman gets your requisition slip lost on the floor somewhere. Try it, Go to your manufacturers parts counter with incorrect terms. Don't read the service manual, charge a person 120.00 an hour, and waste time and money. See if you get good help. See if you help anyone.
@crimsonlight4205
@crimsonlight4205 Жыл бұрын
@@dannylinc6247 ah tech school, that explains a lot actually. It’s great that you went to school and furthered your education on vehicles, but that doesn’t mean everyone else is an idiot. Go anywhere in the world and ask for a harmonic balancer and they will know what your talking about. Go to the manufacturer parts counter looking for a harmonic balancer and they will give you a harmonic balancer. It’s two names for the same part. That’s like saying a headlight switch is actually an illumination mechanism. It’s a meaningless over complication.

Holding on to the belt while someone cranks the motor is always a really bad idea! let me re-emphasize this, someone holding on to a belt while you crank the motor is a really bad idea! Never do this... Besides that comment, yes a cable tie is a great idea, and one I have used before. it works, but sometimes it can take a few tries. The challenge is having the right tension on the zip tie. Don't start the motor, just crank it a tiny bit at a time. Good luck, and please be safe!

If you don't purchase a musical wire and tie it up appropriately so as to cut that zip tie then you will be purchasing a new Stretch Belt every year if not more frequently because if the belt breaks the zip tie then you will put a kink in the belt oftentimes breaking several strings. Or you can just use that knob on the assembly tool and glue a rope into it wrap the Rope around your mean wheel and use your power ratchet to turn the wheel. True it is noisy but you're only fighting two Pistons at any one time and as long as you don't have the key turned on you won't have to worry about those pesky spark plugs or the fuel pump. If you still can't get that belt on then you are nowhere near done tearing down that engine it is seized up. Or you forgot to pull the spark plugs. That's how my ten-year-old boy puts a stretch belt on a V8 BB. And yeah with the spark plugs in even without a battery if you went to crank on that thing it would suck him right into the engine compartment if I forgot to pull the spark plugs.
