This brief video shows how to properly stretch and position and inverted and supinated foot. This inversion positioning is very similar to typical club foot positioning.
Posted with parent permission to provide education for other children/families with similar issues.
The bones of the hind foot must first be positioned into correct, vertical alignment (subtalar neutral position) before you can attempt to stretch the foot into dorsiflexion. If the foot and ankle is not able to be corrected into a neutral position then any stretch placed on the plantar surface of the foot, to stretch into dorsiflexion, simply leads to more inversion and supination occurring, and may do more harm than good. We do not want to harm our patients by neglecting this important positioning!
This is why we are hoping to ride information and education to family members and medical providers everywhere.
