this recipe with rice cooker makes no sense. you can make it with a regular pot. Why use a rice cooker for this. The rice cooker is for making rice and cooking all these saucy things may stain the pot inside.

HIIII!!!! I see a lot of questions about how long you cook it for. It takes about 40-45 min which should be the amount of time before your rice cooker clicks onto "warm" just make sure to stir every 10-15 min and make sure your cooking your pork evenly and at the end the water should be evaporated and turn in thick and saucy :-)

My rice cooker clicks to "keep warm" after 15 mins. So, I can only make braised pork belly on the stove.

Rice cookers have a thermostat in them. When your liquid dries up, the temperature will rise beyond boiling point and switch to warm. Just add a little more liquid(like cooking wine) and switch it to 'cook' again. After the dries up a few times, the sugar will caramelize into this heavenly crunchy fragrant crackling layer! Dumpling's video makes me want to get a bunch of rice cookers.

you should put white rice into the pot and mix it up after taking all the pork out so that you can have every last bit of the sauce
@teddythodo3302
@teddythodo3302 5 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid that’s gonna cause all of the rice so soak up every last ounce of sauce you had. And it’s going to become rather a drier meal whereas you keep the pork saucy bossy and let the rice get soaked as you eat. Ya feel?

this reminds me of when I was in college... I minored in Japanese, and part of that involved me hanging out with almost every Japanese exchange student that showed up... that led to many fun evenings, but one guy lived right down the street from me, so he would come hang out and I would try to explain American movies to him, and he would give me honest criticism on my attempts to make Japanese food... I amazed and horrified him one day when he asked where my rice cooker was, and I held up a sauce pan and a lid... he seriously thought I was playing a prank on him until he tasted the rice I made... he also said my curry rice tasted like his childhood, which is probably one of the nicest things I think anyone has said to me... lol!

Jenny Li I suspected that, too. He says his mother always does it that way. But he also doesn't use any star anis etc, so there really is no depth whatsoever to the dish. It's kinda like meat in a very watery salty caramel soup-like sauce.

Either take off the fat or use a leaner cut off meat.

I love this dish! My grandpa makes something just like that, but the pork belly is cut up smaller and it has much more sauce. Wonderful childhood memories. :)

Porkeo and Julierice 😂😂 I can't wait for the next videos in this series! The dish looks so so good. Rice cookers really are useful for cooking stuff other than rice! My mum used it to cook all the dishes (chicken, vegetables...etc) while we couldn't use the kitchen.
