So glad you included Fu-Unji. I go every trip. Enjoyable to watch the chef work. Tsujita in LA is the closest stateside, but it is not even close. Rokurinsha is similar, but I prefer Fu-Unji for the flavor and ambiance. One of my favorite food memories.

Yay cheap eats, played this video immediately. I used to watch every episode but for some reason it felt like the last few episodes (I may have missed some here and there) on my suggestions from you have all been about eating at the most luxurious place possible. Kind of felt blase about those videos after awhile, so super happy to see this one up. Something about cheap eats and seeing the people who help put it together just feels enjoyable to view.

I lived in Japan for years, and I’ve been back for vacation at-least 20 times over the past 6 years. While it is a great idea to go to non-tourist areas.. sometimes you will get turned away. This typically doesn’t happen at restaurants, but it’s happened to me many times trying to go to izakayas. There has been times I’ve gone in with just one of my American friends and been turned away, then came back 5 minutes later with a Japanese friend and they let us in.

Wagyu has different cuts, the name Wagyu refers to cattle not specific cut of meat

What does Japanese curry taste like? I’ve never had any type of curry in my life…but I’m Mexican and I think it looks the closest like mole? Is it like that?

Curry has the consistency of mole, but is made with a larger variety of spices, one of which is turmeric. You can buy a pack of curry online or in most Asian supermarkets. You can buy the instant curry which is ready to to eat or the curry you can make at home. You can also look up curry videos online. However, not all curries are the same. Japanese curry is different from Indian or Thai curry.
