String Trimmer Trouble | How to clean the spark arrestor screen on a ECHO SRM-2620T
In this video I try to diagnose and repair my ECHO SRM-2620T String trimmer that started to run very rough and lose all power and torque. I have been using the ECHO srm-2620t for 2 years now as the main string trimmer in my lawn care business. I have done no maintenance on the ECHO srm2620t since I got it, including not changing the spark plug or air filter. I use regular unleaded gas with ECHO Red Armor two stroke oil mixed in at 50:1. After two years of constant daily use in my lawn care business the ECHO srm 2620 T string trimmer started running rough this week and lost all power. I check and see that the exhaust screen or spark arrestor screen is clogged with carbon and show you how to properly clean it. The ECHO SRM-2620T is the best commercial string trimmer for a lawn care business.

Let me know in the comments below if you regularly clean the spark arrestor screen on your two stroke equipment?

You can remove the screen, as well if its getting clogged that's because you are putting to much oil mix to gas.

Kool, I hope I remember this if I ever have a issue of my new Echo 2620. My 4yrs Redmax bcz260ts runs like a goat. So the Echo should run for at least 4yrs great
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Yes checking and cleaning it should also really be part of regular maintenance on 2 stroke equipment. I didn’t do it in this because I wanted to see how long it would go with no maintenance. But leaving the screen clogged can cause the engine to run much hotter than it meant too and even potentially cause the engine to seize. Thanks for watching.

I have the 3020 and it's the same design. Except my screen didn't have any build up after 5 years. I used the stihl high performance oil but I'm switching to echo gold and see how it does. I don't run it wide open very often because I don't need as much power. Half to 3/4 throttle is usually enough unless I want to walk through it.

I had an Echo SRM2100 that lasted 22 year! Put an Amazon carb on it maybe at year 19 ran even better. Finally died. I have 4 acres of so cal weeds (mustard weed), thick brush etc. Bought a new)2620T new from the local dealer (California) in June 2019. Put maybe 10 hours use on it. Heavy use Feb-May on the weeds then the sun keeps them brown and down, then periodic 10 minutes here and there on a small lawn edge. Machine is heavy and cuts through the stalky weeds great 2019, 2020. This time last year it starts to die when the engine gets hot. I timed myself. It's about 7 hours of actual wacking weeds for 4 acres. I adjusted the idle to get through the heavy season. This year, same story. Dies when I get on it. Go fill the tank to brim with new pre-mixed, runs ok for a few minutes then dies. Meanwhile the weeds look like armpit high Martians. Take it to the dealer, $175 later for new carb, fuel filter etc...doing the same. According to internet gurus its a vent problem, machine can't get air. Not happy with this $450 unit! Taking it back to dealer but it takes them a month because everyone wants to be an instagram hero and no one wants to repair small engines. Dealer told me all brands {Stihl, Husq,Echo) have the same stupid Cal carbs. A-holes passed a battery operated small engine law. Does anyone know do the manufacturers put a different carb in a unit that is sold to a California dealer as opposed to say Pennsylvania? Does anyone else have this issue for the 2620T? Dies when run hard. Really pisses me off. That kind of money fo ra monster of a weeder and it tucks it between the legs when I need it.

I change all 3 of my echos yearly spark plugs burn alot of oil filter, and degree them too. Never knew there where screens too. Do you ever grease the weed trimmer and edger? The was I own are 8 years old. My backpack blower runs bad, there is no power then I turn throttle on high. It boggs down, this one takes a bigger air filter too. Thx again for your videos

Do NOT USE A WIRE BRUSH to clean it, that will just scratch up the screen and make it easier for carbon to build up on it. You need to get a blow torch and make a glow red hot to burn all of it off or if you have a gas stove find the biggest burner and turn the heat on high and hold it over the flame until it glows red hot. (If you have a blow torch use that instead)

I just throw mine away. As usual thanks to California we have to deal with all this silly stuff. Mower brands have even started making California models for their mowers because they have so many restrictions.
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t mind it. If your not moving forward then your standing still. What I mean is, It’s like when your in traffic and a cool muscle car is stopped by you at a red light. Cool old cars but they stink something nasty. I always think imagine what it was like when all cars had no pollution requirements. The air would be gross in traffic. No thanks. I’d rather have clean air. I don’t see an issue with government imposing restrictions forcing manufacturers to make better and cleaner products all round. If they didn’t companies would be complacent and just put out old archaic polluting designs. Thanks for watching.
@1986BEENE
@1986BEENE 3 жыл бұрын
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess I would agree if it worked. California has the worst air pollution in the country.
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. But it would be 100 times worse if there were not regulations in place. There air quality is bad because the population is huge in California. 39 million people and everyone drives. That’s why it can take two hours to drive through LA on the freeway. 😂

You don’t ever add lithium grease to the gearbox? I haven’t either on my pas-225 and haven’t had any problems but it’s starting to make me nervous. It’s like $6 for a tube of the grease so i’m just going to do it. I’m also a pull the spark arrestor type guy but I kept mine with the documentation for when I need maintenance done by the dealership. Do you feel like the 2620 is much more powerful than the 225? I wanna upgrade and it seems worth it to have the possibility of more power for a very minimal weight increase. The only time my 225 feels slightly underpowered is when i’m using the edging attachment. Also have you used the regular trimmers instead of the high torque kind like you have? I’m considering the high torque head for my combo system, I keep reading that the high torque model will make you run lower rpms which I’ve read isn’t the best for 2 strokes. Thanks for the videos.
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
No I’ve never added grease. Every time I check it you can see grease in there. I was told by echo that adding too much grease can also cause problems. They said if you take the screw off and can see grease there that it’s fine. I have both the 2620 and 2620T. They are both great. I prefer the T model. It has noticeably more torque. Comparable to my Stihl km110 kombi that has a much larger motor. Thanks for watching.

Yeah lots of people remove them. I figure it’s in there for a reason. Literally only takes a few minutes to clean every few years like I did here or at do it at the start of each season as preventative maintenance. Then no worries come the dry drought days of summer with sparks starting a fire. Thanks for watching.

Does the handle in your trimmer vibrate from the shaft spinning inside ?

Not that I’ve noticed. But I’m also using black Diamond trimmer line. I noticed when doing tests using gator line square that there was a lot of vibration. The black Diamond trimmer line is more aerodynamic and causes less vibration. So trimmer line is also a contributing factor to vibration. Thanks for watching.

I got it at a tool store similar to harbour freight. It’s a small butane torch. The machine will run fine without the screen. Lots of guys remove them. It’s a safety thing though as it prevents sparks from backfires and misfires etc. so I would not use the machine with the screen removed in dry conditions like drought or where fire bans may be present. Just in case. Thanks for watching.
