So I just watched Tobias's video with the Yonex Stringing team (The Art of Stringing Part 2). The video from 2022. They've modified the way their cross string, especially with high-tension and with Aerobites.. 1) The starting knot on the cross strings at B6 no longer wraps around the main string to prevent breakage. 2) When you reach to about 3 or 4 crosses left near the top of the racket, string from the *top down*. And instead of tying off at A5/a5 and wrap around the main string, tie off around A10/a10 onto a cross string. I've just started to do my strings like how they do now. I have to say it feel a little more confident, less iffy than wrapping around the mains on either end.

Yes, if its slipping, check your clamps, the pressure as well as the teeth (if you've been cleaning them, etc). Different diameter strings also makes a slight difference.

A suggestion to prevent starting mains from slipping is apply a starting clamp beside the machine clamp so you won't have to hold the string during the first pull.

Thank you for this video. For a 72 hole racquet, where do you start the cross, on the left side or right side? Yonex instruction is to start at the right side, that would mean 3 knots would come to the right side while 1 knot to the left side, which is not the case for 76 hole pattern!

Hi, thank you for the excellent video. Would you have a link with stringing devices reviews? I have a stringing device (a very old one) with a rotator and I would like to buy a new one with parallel pull that is more precise. Mine now is really not precise and I want to be more precise in my stringing work now. If you know of a website or good video explaining the different stringing machines and which one is best (not for professionals) but more for own family playing. We tend to do new stringing 6-8 times per months... Thanks for your help ;).

Thanks for all your videos. I am a stringer, but have never done badminton before. I got a request to do a badminton racket, and the customer gave me a pack of string, and he requested it to be done as a 1pc job. So I counted 11 mains for my short side and then left the rest on the other side to do the other 11 mains, and this racket has a 22 crosses pattern it looks like. The racket is MMOA, Ace Power 1101. I finished the 11 mains on my short side, and did the 11 mains on the other side and went into the crosses, but I only made it to cross number 12 before I ran out of string?? I didn't cut that much string off when I tied off the mains on the short side... I even picked up the string I cut off, and that gave me an additional maybe 5 crosses, I would have still been short. The pack of Ashaway ZyMax 66 Fire Power said 10M... I'm pretty confused why the string ran out. Maybe it was just a bad pack, or I am missing something with the way badminton is done compared to tennis/squash rackets that I am normally accustomed to... So I ordered two packs of Yonex BG66 UM for the customer instead to give to him, in case I run into the same problem, I will tie off the long side, and just do it as a 2pc job.
@CKYew
@CKYew 2 жыл бұрын
Wow, looks like there was something wrong with that pack of strings you received initially. A standard 10m pack would have a fair bit left over on a 1pc stringjob on a normal 22x22 pattern. Was the Zymax 66 Fire Power a sealed/fresh pack when you got it?
@level27xrock
@level27xrock 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Quick reply! It was a new pack, the customer gave me unopened still in the plastic. After I discovered I was short in the crosses, I reverted back and tied off the mains on the other side too. I then measured both the extra piece of string I cut off from doing the mains on the short side, and then the long piece of string that was left that I was supposed to do the crosses with. The piece from cutting off the mains on my short side was 3ft, 2 inches. The long left over string I was supposed to finish the racket with after doing the mains on the long side, was 6ft, 9 inches. I think I just happened to get a bad pack of shortly measured string. I felt bad so I told the customer what happened, and I ordered 2 packs of Yonex BG66 UltiMax string to use for him instead, is that a good string? Another thing, he requested his tension to be 26lbs, and from some videos I saw, they say they do tension on mains at one tension, and then increase the tension on crosses by 10% of main tension? Is that a good practice to do? Or should I just keep my machine at 26lbs for both mains and crosses?
@CKYew
@CKYew 2 жыл бұрын
It is weird that you've got a short pack of string. I'd certainly let Ashaway know that something has slipped through their quality control if I was you 😊. And yes, 66 Ultimax is a really good string although on the thinner side. I've done a string comparison video so maybe you can check that out if you'd like 👍. And yes, for isometric racket frames (square shape, not egg shape), its good practice and normal to add about 10% of tension on crosses. For me, if someone wants 26lbs in tension, I tend to go 25lbs on the mains, then 27lbs on the crosses. Good luck!! 👍

Got a question CK, why my 88D pro that was strung from HK looks like an egg shape? requested a 28lbs. Is it because the stringer put 28lbs in the main and 32+ in the cross? I compared to my 28mains and 29cross and its really different. Thanks
@CKYew
@CKYew Жыл бұрын
Egg shape? Is it quite excessive? Its like you said, potentially from quite a big tension difference between the mains and cross.. If it doesnt look right, get it checked and restrung.

Hi there. I know this video is quite old but just seen it now. i have noticed that you started your crosses from the bottom going up the racket. Should it not be the other way round or does it not make any difference.
@CKYew
@CKYew Жыл бұрын
Yonex recommends starting from the bottom and I believe it’s the right thing to do because the bottom is slightly stronger than the top so it’ll withstand the imbalance of stress a bit better during stringing.

@CKYew
@CKYew 4 жыл бұрын
Hi J, it depends on a few things, the typical guidance is 5.5m for mains and 4.5m for crosses. But depending on this distance between the tension head on your machine to your turntable, you can save a fair few meters/stringjob if you measure it right. For example: i can get approx 22 string jobs/reel.
@albertchui8462
@albertchui8462 2 жыл бұрын
It depends how much the string stretches and tension applied. I noticed the Adidas Ubershall really stretches leaving alot of waste on a 10m pack. More string is used on 22lbs compares to 30lbs. Also it depends if you prestretch or not, 1 or 2 piece. 5m mains x 4m cosses is enough. For my own racket at I use 8.5m 1 string pattern, 0.63mm at 26lbs.

Hello CK, I have recently gotten WISE 2086 Tension head, I am trying to string my racquet at 28 LBS, for that I am pulling mains at 27 and cross at 29 LBs, I am using two knot method to string my racquet, when I finish stringing my racquet the tension is about 25 LB's. I am not sure where I am doing it wrong, I would like to you point me in the right direction so I can try and see if the tension seems to be better. You can check if your WISE is pulling the correct tension by using a digital weighing scale. If its fine, then perhaps your clamps are slipping. Check to make sure they're not. And finally you mentioned about your knots, do practice and find what works best for your workflow. Good luck 👍👍😊

Instead of using a flying clamp, you could swap the last two crossstrings, so first go through the last holes, then the secondlast holes, pull em both and you can use the normal clamps on the string you pulled. basically same mechanism as for the last two mains,but now you do it to get more tolerance for the clamps (dont need clamps for the last crosses, only for the secondlast crosses, as you pull that). Hope that helps.

There is something in my opinion that could make it even more consistent. It's about your crosses and it's the wayi do it on my tennis racquet wich is kind of the same technique except pulling the 2 las strings together. So the advantage of this technique is that you can pull 10% more on the knots and make it even everywhere. But if you use a starting know it won't be. The way I'm doing it is to block the first cross with a flying clamp, weave 5 or 6 crosses and then come back and pull with the same 10% on the cross or the first 2 of them? What do you think?

This machine has had lots of changes to it throughout the years so it wouldnt be representative. Something similar nowadays would probably be around £800-1000?

CK Yew Hey, thanks for the quick reply! What’s the name of the stringing machine? Where can we buy that from? Also, where can I learn how do that knot? Anyway, thanks for the video :)

That’s a Pros Pro machine but adapted with a WISE 2086 electronic tensionhead. I’m not sure where you are based but there should be retailers online around your locality for badminton stringing machines. I’m doing a video for the knots soon, is there anything else that you would like me to clarify as well?? subscribe and you will know when it’s out!!! 😂😂 Thanks :)

@@BTzen I'm sure similar machines would be available in the US. If you can send your questions to me in an email, I'll try and get them addressed in a future video. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

Can you please give some advice on how I can prevent the cross strings from twisting? When I pull it after putting it through the very first grommet, the whole slack just starts twisting and it becomes impossible to pull after the third/fourth cross.

Are you pre weaving and just pulling it through before tensioning?
