Great breakdown, Shark. My yard actually has a Heliax category which is a bit above #2 ICW, so for me it's a no brainer. I just take it in as is. 👍

A great follow up vid, I in your position would just weigh it in. Though I did find the Open eye easy to Strip and a total joy to compress into Blocks ( not ). Your offer of more face melting volcano sauce is appreciated but I will decline. Thanks for the vid Sharky

A fun unplanned collaboration of sorts, thank you. Yes, the closed eye is definitely a non-starter, or non-stripper for me. The open eye may depend on how much backlog I have and if I want to invest in a small bench saw. For now, it's all going in unstripped. Thanks again for an informative and fun colab.

As with most scrap, it frequently comes down to how you value your time. When this was a hobby, I didn't care about time because I was just doing it for fun and making a few bucks more was great, no matter how long it took. But, as a professional, time is money and there's no shortage of things demanding one's time. So it becomes a balancing act.

I would guess that taking it in as is makes the most sense. Seems like it would take a while to stripe and you are not gaining that much. Are you buying this from them or are they donating it to you? That might play into the pan a bit too.
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nacho - I buy it from them. With the closed eye it's an easy decision: cut the ends off and cut into manageable sizes. Turn and burn. The open eye is a little more tempting to strip IF I find myself with nothing else to do...like that happens anymore 🤣

@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
Smart scrappers who can, will try to get higher value scrap. But it's not like you can always pick and choose. My focus is ewaste but I'd be foolish to ignore the value from these cell tower scraps. We only have so many hours in the day, so getting the most "bang for the buck" is important. That said, I still enjoy, and regularly, street scrap even though I never know what or if I'll find anything.

What's the recovery of closed eye heiliax
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 7 ай бұрын
Not sure what the current prices are for closed eye. If you scrap it you'll get the Al casing and bare bright Cu wire. BUT and this is a big warning. Dealing with the insulation or inner core is a pain in the rear.

Hey Foot soldier, interesting channel name - were you Army or a Marine? I have a motorized stripper - there's a couple vids in my collection of me using it. So the challenge with this wire is both its diameter and how it's made. The smallest diameter is half an inch going up to one inch. AND the internal copper jacket is corrugated, making it very difficult for a stripper to smoothly cut through the outer plastic insulation. I am researching larger/industrial size strippers
