In todays chronicle I'm stripping out a large skid of Copper Wire I Obtained from an Auction. This wire came from a Data Center, and was a lot of fun to strip out. I used the Milwauke Pack out a #Stripmeister Wire Stripper, and my Big Ole Buck Knife to complete the job

If you're buying wire to strip, get a proper motorised multi station stripper so you're not constantly adjusting the machine for different sizes. Run that shredded wire through a second time so it has 2 cuts then the plastic will fall off it. Then you dont end up a pincushion. I run 1 wire through, then peel the plastic, wind the copper and bin the plastic before running the next. This keeps the area clean to work easier. And mount your stripper on a bench so your not getting up and down all the time or bending over so much. 1 wheelie bin for the plastic, 1 for the copper. I also wind up all my wire tightly once stripped to keep tidy and compact for stockpiling until I reach my 1 tonne goal. Hopefully you get to scrounge a lot of free strippable wire too, that's what's already paid off my AU$900 machine in 6 months! A steel pedestal on large lockable castors would suit you if you haven't a dedicated area to do this, and a tarp to catch all the little bits. Good luck from Wallaroo, South Australia! P.S. Wallaroo is on the Copper Coast, Haha!

Putting that Stripmeister to work! Those little copper spears can be awful, go right through the gloves too. I’ve got a vice bolted to a stump so that’s what holds my Stripmeister, keeping it elevated definitely helps. Nicely edited vid too! 👍

IDK how I feel about this one. I kinda think it was a huge waste to recycle these as they're still in great condition and totally reusable. I know a couple of AV equipment leasing companies that might've been interested in them. While recycling is a good thing, reusing is much much better.

He paid $302 for the wire, spent 2 days stripping it, and got back ~$450, so he made about minimum wage for 2 days of work, not counting the fuel to pick up the wire, or take it to the scrapyard. Doesn't make any financial sense either
@Ahmed____

You're correct. It was a huge waste of perfectly good wiring. Scrapping is the stage after the resource becomes redundant. In this case, they were working fine and should have been resold as-is.

Hey there! I just discovered your channel and I'm digging your videos. I wanted to just toss out a quick tip here. I once made the same mistake that you did, overtensioning my drill powerered stripper a bit too much and cutting too deeply into the copper on this wire. I have got a very similar stripper to yours and I've got it bolted to a base that is just a section of 2 by 12 lumber that is about 2 feet long which keeps it nice and stationary and stable, especially if run running thicker gauge wire through it. I took a large plastic tub and lay the 2 by 12 base across it, and secured it to the tub with a small ratchet strap. I then reran the Wire back through the stripper with it rotated so the blade was cutting the opposite side of the wire than it previously cut. I wore some nice thick gloves and fed the wire through the machine slowly and carefully, keeping the wire turned so that the blade was always cutting roughly on the opposite side of the wire from the 1st cut. I also ran the tension of tension a little bit heavy at this point so has to make sure and cut completely through put completely through the opposite side of the wire. Even feeding the wire through slowly so as to keep it turned in the right direction, I was still able to go through it at about 1/3 or 1/4 speed compared to usual. In any case it was much much quicker than then the very slow careful hand removal of the wire from the sheath. As the wire came out of the other side of the stripper I had it feeding down into the tub. Depending on how much twist there was to the copper inside some of it stayed together in longer chunks and some of it just came apart completely into little bits once the sheath had been completely split down both sides effectively leaving 2 long strips of insulation That pulled the rat off the wire. I used a nice big tub so that there was a minimum of little bits of copper that Fell down around the surrounding area but I swept this up in under a minute once I was done. It was a couple different types of wire I had made this mistake with and this method worked best on the wire with dense, hard, more rigid plastic insulation which luckily for me was the majority. It did not work quite as well for a couple sections of wire that was more like old AC extension cords, with very soft Flexible thicker insulation. Thought I'd share in case it might help anybody in the future.

couldnt you re use the stripper at a much lower tension to re run the cable back through, or maybe run the copper part in the stripper and let it strip the plastic of somehow? Im sure theres a way you could make that work, you'd save a lot of time and effort, you could even have a bucket and run the copper part through a little bit and shove it into the bucket, and then run the rest so that it strips itself and also puts itself in the bucket.

Nobody but scroungers want to use secondhand wire for business or household purposes, and they wouldn't pay more than auction prices themselves. Electricians probably won't give warranty on secondhand wiring- same as appliances. Then lookout if the insurance company finds out secondhand wiring was used.

Carbon being released is the least toxic of an assortment of very toxic chemicals that goes into the air and the ground when burning copper wire. It also burns away some of the copper if you just let it burn, so one finds himself sucking all that shit inevitably into your lungs. Used to burn everything I found and the only fun that it entailed was when there are Christmas lights mixed in. The wire ends up mostly lost to the Earth, but the bulbs exploding randomly makes the job seem less like work. I just may have to look into one of those strippers. Thanks for the demo video.

To compare prices stripped vs unstripped: local to me i get $1.80/kg for unstripped (called pvc) vs $6.00/kg stripped (no.1) local terms in South Australia. Those prices are country town scrapyard and much better prices if I go to Adelaide ($10+ a kilo stripped) I am stockpiling for a 1 tonne payday so price fluctuation won't affect me and the 300km round trip cost is nothing when the payday exceeds $10k. All my ally, lead and steel pay weekly fuel costs so I'm not scratching for money in the meantime. Also make deals with local electricians to strip their scraps for a share of the wire. One sparky gave my name to a local computer repair business so now I get a uteload of desktops, servers, laptops, U.P.S.'s to strip out for wire, heatsinks and gold every 3 months. So you're taking wire that's already been processed, you're stripping it so that it has to be processed again and then re-coated again. Besides making money off of it, what's the purpose since all you're doing is forcing more energy to be spent to reprocess something that could easily be sold and reused as is.

As an electrician, with one 50 foot run of wire, of what looked like 8 wire so (30-50amps dedicated circuit) I would have made $600... So next time sell all that wire to an electrician for $1000 or even better learn to be a electrician ...

So are u doing this for the sole purpose of making content and the profit doesn't matter? Because anyone watching this that comes across similar stuff. Ebay that sh#$. U would be surprised at what data cables and weird connections go for on eBay. They actually sell too. The wires are perfect with connections and junction boxes. U just tore apart something that will be need to be remade again. But probably just for the channel right lol

@@CountryBoyChronicle yeah that would be cool. In my opinion I don't see why you couldn't add that to your total. I think that people really like to see a small investment reap large profits. But cudos for being honest and transparent with everything. I really enjoyed your video how you broke everything down with what you actually made. If you end up cashing in with eBay too, that would be the icing on the cake for this video lol great content man and thanks for the reply. Good luck 👍

You would have made 10 times the cash if you sell the wire as is by the foot. You basically just wasted hundreds of dollars and you put effort into it for no reason

Why are u buying wire to strip?? Ur kinda losing out on money. If ur scrapyard pay 3 dollars a pound that's nothing. U bought all the wire for 300 bucks.. ur better off looking and getting the wire for free then stripping it and taking it to the scrapyard.. go to electrician company's ask them for their scraps.. that's what I do..
