‪@bigcountryscrapper6885‬ asked in Discord about videos on stripping direct drive motors and I figured I would do one while I was cleaning and sorting today.

Do you know what a grinder with a cutting blade would do… yeah cut through the wire and you pull it all off at once… gee it’s not hard to think of that if you have ever used a grinder that is…
@HHRecycling

Do you know what reading other people's comments would do? Yeah, it would probably help you not make ignorant comments. Why don't you make a video on the way you do it? Be sure to leave all the plastic melting in it.

@@HHRecycling use a little dermal grinder… small but fast at cutting the copper off…. And I don’t make videos cause I try not letting the government know what I’m doing as much as possible…. I don’t like being tracked and spied on….. but I’m not trying to be a butthead …. It’s just common sense…. Small dermal cuts the copper no plastic and no long time to pull the copper…. One and done is my motto…. I find the easiest way as possible…. I’m in a wheelchair…most of the time…

@EdZirul As I have said to other commenters, I get a couple of these a year, so I don't mind spending an extra 15 minutes, and I find it really relaxing, when I am not recording. I don't have a dermal grinder, but I have a regular 4.5". I try to not use it if I can help it, because I have bad lungs and don't like putting the respirator on. I'm not too worried about the government seeing what I do, as I report my earnings through the business and won't be making any money at it for a few years. Everything goes back in to upgrade the property. Thank you for the reply.

For sure it does. I got approx 3 lbs off all the copper ones I have done, but That's only a handful. I figured it out to around $24 an hour, which is way more than I usually get scrapping.

I do at least 1 a week, Don't cut the end of the plastic off as that makes a rough edge that the wire gets caught on. They run in sections of 3 so I lay the motor on a flat bench and pull on the 3 wires at the same time, it comes off in a wave motion, easy without cutting takes me less that 5 mins to do them.
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 22 күн бұрын
@@markure8793 Thank you, and yes, I do 3 as well but from the vise. I'll have to try it flat as pulling up is a bit awkward. I wish I could find one a week to do. I also don't find a need to cut them, even if I had one a day.
@jonathanbuckley3254

There is exactly 1kg of copper on them. The easiest way ive found is to run the angle grinder with a cutting disc down one edge. Then turn it over and use a screwdriver to prise the copper off. Takes around 20min to collect you copper.
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 6 ай бұрын
Right on. The ones I get usually have 3 lbs, or very close to it. I don't like using the grinder if I can help it. Especially if there's plastic, but I'm sure it would be faster.

Take hacksaw/sawzall and cut longways across each ear into the plastic insulators and the copper all falls off without unwinding. It works well, I can do one in less than 5 minutes.
@HHRecycling

That's a great time. If I was in a hurry I would do that for sure, but I enjoy doing it this way and I get maybe 6 a year, so it's not a huge deal for me to spend the time on it. I was thinking of trying the Dremel on it to minimise the amount lost from cutting with the grinder, but didn't want to take the time to go get it set up.

That's what I do. Seems the most efficient method. Also when you cut copper with a cutting disc they last forever. Aluminum is different but brass and copper hardly cause any wear on disc

Has anyone tried cutting each section on one side with a thin circular cutting wheel? Bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt….and the short C-shaped pieces come off easier? Maybe? I don’t get enough of these to try. At least not big ones like this.
@HHRecycling
@HHRecycling 7 ай бұрын
I did try it, but I only had the grinder with a cutoff disc. It worked to an extent, but took longer and used almost a full disc. Because of the lips, it melted a lot of plastic and hit a lot of steel. Maybe if you had a Dremel tool or something.
