try on the back side of one of the false front drawers first. Like the fake drawer panel under most sinks.

@@texasfossilguy I did it! I sanded my entire kitchen and all the woodwork in my whole house! It’s absolutely beautiful! A ton of work and mess, but so worth it. ☺️☺️

@@Womanfromearth About 6 weeks but that was just working a couple hours a night (my husband and I) in the kitchen. Then I started on all the doors and did them over the next few months. Random orbital sander and detail sander. If I can do it, you can do it! 👍👍

yes ,but with the rustoleum kit ,they don,t strip the cabinets the just go over the old finish , so if you stripped every thing down , then sand the cabinets with 220 sand paper ,then go for it with your kit ,if you need any help let me know my email lachbruce1957@gmail.com

I see now that methylene chloride is, as of March 2019, illegal for consumer use according to federal law. The MC free premium stripper by Klean Strip worked well for me.

yes you are right about that , you will need to get some furniture stripper and strip it off ,or try a refinishing shop to get a bid on stripping the doors

you will have to strip off the old finish, then sand the wood,after sanding the wood stain, then let stain dry ,after stain drys ,then top coat with the finish of your choice

Usually let it dry out and put it in regular trash

Your down to the wood with a light stain still saturated in the wood. Stripper eats away at the gloss Such a laquare or polyurethane and only some stain.

IF YOU CAN JUST SCUFF THEM UP GOOD WITH A 220 FINISHING PAPER AND THEN WASH THEM WITH A DEGLOSSER ,THEN YOU CAN PAINT THEM ,

bruce lach Got it! The only problem is we have a 200 sand block and it doesn’t scuff up the surface, it just smooths it a little. Should we try a 60-100 sand block?

#0000 FINE STEEL WOOL..... Often called: "Four-Ott". The key is to use the finest grit of steel wool you can which effectively removes the finish (Varnish, Lacquer, Poly's). The lower the grit #, the more abrasive the steel wool. Patience is the name of the game....like he said, "Let the stripper do the work". Many people get impatient and want to be able to remove all the finish with one coat of stripper, that's a mistake. Each subsequent layer of stripper will soften the finish products more and more. Basically, you don't want the steel wool to leave scratches or swirls in the actual wood grain. The one thing he didn't mention, because this video was purely about how to "Strip" finishes, is that it's CRUCIAL TO FIRST THOROUGHLY CLEAN the surfaces you intend to strip. Scrub the cabinet doors with TSP to remove ALL the dirt, oil, wax, Silicones from furniture polish, and grease, before you strip or sand. This is hugely important because you don't want any of those oils, grease etc... to have a chance of penetrating into the wood because it will "Contaminate" the wood surface. If the wood surface gets contaminated, it WILL greatly effect how the new finish applies. Contaminates in the wood can cause a "Fish-Eye" appearance to occur in your finish which is a complex nightmare to deal with.....you may even have to strip-off your new finish and start over. Mohawk-Finishing sells a few excellent products you can use as a last step before applying the new finish to ensure the wood is completely decontaminated: 1) Silicone Wash 2) Wax Wash Remover.....

Thanks for the reply. If this stripper will penetrate dry oil base paint, then it will surely dissolve any oils or wax that are still on the surface before stripping.

espaghetti99 I hope you are kidding. Bruce is a craftsman who does excellent work and he is kind enough to take time to make videos so people like you can learn from his experience. I for one appreciate his videos and I strip much the same way. If you use #2 grade steel wool you can go against the grain in places especially if you will be sanding. Waiting to see your videos of your work since you are a professional.

Why would stripper have to be applied with the grain? When you take it off you do have to go with the grain, which he appears to be doing. But the direction of stripper is sort of inconsequential
