There's still plenty on the roads today. A mate rides a Jawa 638 powered CZ 350 café racer 40 miles to work everyday, making him the only 350cc 2 stroke in everyday use in Wiltshire. I built him the bike, back in 2019. He's totally hooked on 2 strokes now, after years of owning a succession of unreliable GPz600's.

You could always buy a modern road legal 300cc 2t enduro bike and put road wheels on it. They really are a blast :)

I love the sound of a decent two stroke On Pipe , what a shame that much of it was spoiled by that incessant & repetitive excuse for music , watching this is as close as I'm ever likely to get to riding one simply because of the price , it would be nice to hear it on a track - Without any silly music in the background ! , Well done Langen for being so brave & daring with this venture & Good luck in the future .

What a great review and quite a scoop to get the first press ride on this fabulous machine. As a 17 year old I had an RD250LC. Loved the character of a two stroke, the noise the smell. Its a pity price wise it's out of reach for us normal souls, still glad it's out there.

Love the bike , hearing that sound brings back so many great memories of 2 strokes for me. The bike is expensive but I think we’ll worth it, Langen did a great job on the style, is mega cool. Park this thing and you’ll have a group of bike lovers drooling all over it! Review was excellent more please …….

I absolutely love that bike! First new bike for ages that just looks "right" and is beautifully finished. Being a stroker, the power band will be addictive and 70bhp from a 250cc bike is a lot, especially for such a light bike. Shame it cones in so pricy or I'd join the queue for one.

I agree. It even sounds a bit lazy blipping the throttle from idle. An Aprilia Rs250 sounds much more eager and revs easier

If you look at the underseat exhaust at about 1.20 there is absolutely no smoke, unlike the other. At low revs that bike is definitely running on one cylinder. Tbf it seems fine later in the video.

I love the smell of two strokes on a cold morning. I was lucky enough to haves raced in the Australian 250 cc production series in the mid 90’s. Phillip Island was my home track. Which was full of track ready RGV-250’s and the odd NSR-250’s. I had two bikes and have kept one that is in mint condition, even though it hasn’t run in over 25 years. All fluids have been drained. It’s now worth 5 times what it was when brand new. Great review, thank you. Learning how to launch a two-stroke in race conditions makes it so much easier to get a four stroke away quickly. Unfortunately, some just haven’t had the experience. Apart from the burning oil factor, with the noise how does it pass Euro5 regulations? 👍😎🇦🇺

I thought the usual 2-stroke oil was obnoxious smelling as it exited the exhaust. But *castor bean* oil... that smell was magic! It smelled like the race track, and earlier in my life - of model airplanes.

Love the look, and especially the sound, of this bike. I do have a 2 stroke in the garage still that comes out a few times a year. Nothing quite in this league though - just a 1984 Suzuki GP100 that was almost identical to the one I had 32 years ago when I was 17! Still, every time I ride it, it makes me feel like I'm 17 again :)

Fuel and oil injection for 2 strokes works very well on snowmobiles, so if someone was really interested they could be adapted to road bikes. In the case of what I work on, you'll have to get used to an 800cc twin made for torque. Many people have used sled drivelines in karts and some bikes with good results. Purely as hobbyists though.

2 stroke snowmobile engines are generally tuned from scratch for CVT delivery - meaning they want to get to their peak power/torque and then stay there. I think it would make for a bit of a twitchy combo with a typical sequential transmission.

@@kaiboshvanhortonsnort359 The sled engined bikes I've seen people build kept the CVT system in the primary, and they worked according to the articles. There's videos on youtube of some people have made.

Exciting bike. Great review. Took me back to my first street bike, an RD 350. Lots of parallels - clutch-slipping take-offs, nothing below 5K, everything from there to 8K - though this one is a true work of art! Love the line the frame takes when it becomes the swing arm. Wow.

A nice bit of wall-art for those with enough spare cash for one-off toys. Miss my ‘Ram Air’ Suzuki which ate pistons and loved blowing its 6V bulbs on pitch-dark B-roads, and my stone-reliable pre-mix MZ every day, and remember lusting after an RG250.

I had a Yamaha RD250 and two 1979 RD400 Daytona Specials. How wonderful it was to hear a two stroke, all angry and on the pipe on the road. What a gorgeous little gem of a motorcycle. Living in the U.S. I’m pretty sure I won’t get to ride a two stroke on the road again.

75 RD350 after Vesco Yamaha ported and polished the cylinders and pistons and shaved the heads and I installed a TZ250 crank. Then 36mm Mukuni carbs, and expansion chambers. Oh boy, we having fun now! Finished the cafe with a Vesco seat/tail piece and clip ons. K81's and light aluminum rims with SS spokes, and a cool quarter fairing.

What the video failed to say is that the 249cc, 90º V-twin engine and advanced fuel-and-oil injected unit is developed by Vins Motors in Italy....Vins also has their own machine which uses the engine and is called the Duecinquanta Strada which you can see when their website isn't down!

I thought 2strokes were banned due to polution hence the big Japanese manufacturers changing to 4strokes ? Obviously I must be wrong, it's also great to see a new British motorcycle manufacturer producing a British invented engine. The 2stroke engine was invented by Joseph Day in London around 1880, though he died bankrupt and unknown. Anyway, I expect he would be very pleased to see another British company still producing bikes with his engine, I wish them all the best.

I think a lot of bikers want to see the old strokers remade to today's engineering standards. NSR 125, 250, 400, 500. RGV 250, 500. TZR 250, RD 500. Cagiva Mito! Aprilia RS 125, 250. Kawasaki KR1-S. DT 125. MX/RX 125. Husqvarna SM... We can only hope the big manufacturers take notice of developments in 2-stroke tech.

I absolutely loved the power delivery of my 2011 KTM EXC 300 with a fatty pipe. Plenty of low down torque that surprised me having not owned a 2 stroke is donkeys years, and it kept pulling hard all the way through the revs. I wish there was a more road going bike with this kind of engine, or even better, 2 of them in parallel in a café racer style frame. Lets ask Alan Milliard to do it ladies and gents!

Yeah, I had a EXC250 2t and was surprised how torquey it was at the bottom. Wish I’d hadn’t sold it and bought a 450.

People are buying up cr500 mx engines and putting them in cafe racer frames

2-strokes have more torque than equivalent size 4-strokes and their power is lower down the rpm range :) When manufacturers stop being power hungry and tune their bikes right they lose a bit of peak hp but become a dream to ride. Just like the DT125R. PERFECT power delivery for a 125. If the engine is blueprinted enough it will have a powerband right from 6000 to 10 000rpm. Thats fat.

I'm a two stroke nut as well, however we ride them due to the fact we like to rev it. I'm in love with it, it needs more work by the sounds of it. The price is probably right, will it keep its price? I converted a cr250 into a road bike, it's incredible and under 5k. I can honestly say thank you for starting to bring out more two strokes again.

Excellent review. This machine begs to be put into real mass production and get that price down and refinement up a bit for the non-expert. But then I guess proper type approval and emissions rules would kick in.

I did wonder if they or another manufacturer could produce a number of machines to keep under the threshold for SVA, make an incremental change, produce the same volume again, make a change and so on. Maybe a manufacturer could produce bikes in kit form...

A 175cc producing 50 HP and maybe 15 KG lighter might be just as much fun and may have a better chance at passing emissions, unfortunately, its cost to manufacture would not be that much less.

First time I have ever watched a bike review by Emma Franklin and I have to say what a breath of fresh air! Very good work Emma, I am impressed! A world away from some of those testosterone fuelled journos who think they are riding gods. Great work, I'll be back and if I had the money, I'd buy one of these?

As a frugal fella who has always leaned towards bang-for-the-buck machines, I can quite imagine that the Langen is worth every penny of it's asking price. Sometimes things can be both expensive and a bargain. Way to go, Langen team!

I am a 2stroke fanatic and I'll always love it,to this day i still prefer a 2stroker instead of a 4stroker.I love the smell, sound and smoke .

Man I wish these things were more available and affordable across the board without the need to convert dirt bike platforms, maintain and buy older machines, or buying custom bikes like this. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear there’s still enthusiasm for 2-strokes when these days you hear murmuring in the background that a lot of the big name manufacturers are moving away from internal combustion and are trying to bring us into an all electric future. I don’t mind it having its own niche, but like my lawn equipment sometimes you need less weight and more range when traversing a good amount of land. It seems the small engine market is making similar moves as well! Otherwise, it will keep us from exploring beyond our large cities’ edges... Long live the 2-stroke!

Would love to have a ride of something like this! As being 31, my first 2 bikes were 2 strokes and as I wasn’t of the generation of LC’s, RD’s etc, I don’t get all nostalgic about 2 strokes. Not a fan of the sound to be honest and remember my 50/125 being nothing, nothing, nothing, POWER! But having never ridden a larger CC 2 stroke, I feel like I need to be educated, but I’m all for lightweight bikes, with strong power!

I have had many dozens of motorcycles since 1968. I used to make my living as a mechanic when I was in my 20s at four different dealerships/Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha/Moto Guzzi/vespa.. I owned and road raced 2 strokes-Winning six championships, two-time national champion/Yamaha 250 2 strokes… there are several things I know about two strokes having been a mechanic and an owner of everything from bridge stones, the big four from Japan, also Beta, fantic,gasgas trials machines.. unless they’ve changed, I know that two strokes do not like to cruise on the interstate at a steady speed, especially when the RPMs are close to where the power band starts. they tend to be nervous and surge like they want to get going as they approach the power band or if they are in the power band. I suppose you could do some changes like a heavy fly wheel to smooth this trait out, or some less peaky milder tuning.. another thing I’ve noticed about two cycles, they don’t last very long. Do you have to replace pistons, rings, crankshaft, crankshaft seals, more than you would have to do if ever on a four stroke engine.. in the late 1980s, every car manufacturer from Chrysler//general motors/all the way down to I’m going to try to spell it, Daihatsu had two stroke car engines ready to be introduced to the public. The benefit was in general, half the weight dedicated to the engine for the same amount of power output as a four stroke engine, or, the same amount of weight dedicated to the engine as a four stroke engine would produce an engine that had double the horsepower of the same weight for cycle engine. I was very interested in this for obvious reasons. Saab had a 2 cycle car in the 60s .. it used a premix system of oil. You had to drive until you needed 10 gallons even of gasoline, then you put in a pre-measured amount of oil into the gas tank and added the fuel. I don’t know how long these cars lasted as far as pistons and rings and crankshaft. I’ve had 2SAABS myself, both four stroke engines. Marvelous cars.. I was sad to see them go out of business because General Motors bought them, then General Motors went bankrupt in 2007 or 2008, and saab was sacrificed in the restructure.. I felt bad for the factory workers at saab..They were actually working without pay for months to keep the ship afloat in hopes that someone would buy the company. as for the cars being developed with two stroke engines in the late 80s. The Toyota 2 stroke engine car had a wet sump to lubricate the crankshaft. You actually checked the oil with the dipstick. I still would like to know how that was designed.. I don’t know but I imagine that most of those two stroke cars that were being designed for the public around the world had catalytic converter‘s to clean up the smoke exhaust, water cooling, variable ignition timing, most importantly, excellent air filtration which is a Achilles’ heel of two-stroke engines. I don’t know anything about the engine combustion chamber cylinder design implemented for car use by the manufacturers around the world. But one thing stopped them dead in their tracks all of them… none of the designs, not even one of them could pass an air emissions test at the 100,000 mile mark.. and that is a two stroke engine in a nutshell. They don’t last as long as a four stroke engine does.. The longest lasting two-stroke engines on motorcycles back in the 60s and 70s before they were phased out by the Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha companies, were the Suzukis. They had a three cylinder water cooled 750cc Street bike with a very broad power band, a mild power delivery for a piston port engine, and they supposedly were known for going 100,000 miles and more on the original pistons & rings.. at least that’s what I have heard back in the day. Suzuki also made a two cylinder air cooled 500cc. Street bike called the Titan. That was known for going at least 40,000 miles on the original rings and pistons,, I have never seen it but that’s what I have heard they had a reputation for doing.. I believe Bridgetown was making the best designed street bike two stroke engines back in the late 60s. Their engines were air cooled, Rotary valve twins, the cylinder boars were chromed, it had a six speed, it would start in any gear, it would start without a battery, it also had a dry clutch… they were head and shoulders above Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. I had one, it had a 6 gallon gas tank, when everyone else had a 3 1/2 gallon gas tank, oil injection.. and reliable. I had two buddies that were both racers/motorcycle mechanics, they rode across the country from Pennsylvania to California and back on Bridgestone 350s without problems.. I believe if it were not for the longshoreman dock workers strike in the late 60s, the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world right now would be Bridgestone. in the late 60s, Bridgestone had all their eggs in one basket. All of their machines for the next season we’re in ships headed for the United States. The longshoreman were on strike and would not unload any ships for months. Bridgestone was the manufacturer that was the biggest casualty as a result of that strike. That is a real pity I have owned and worked on many Kawasaki Yamaha 2 Stroke St. bikes and race bikes/road racing machines and motocross machines. My road race machines required that I put new pistons and rings in the machine every 200 miles. I had to replace the crankshaft every 600 miles.. these were factory Road racing two stroke machines with premix oiling. Red line was 10,500 RPMs. They were water cooled. Not very hostile environment not a very high rpm for an engine with a 52 mm stroke.. on my street bikes and many street bikes that were two strokes, you were lucky to get 15,000 or 20,000 miles max out of a set of pistons and rings on an air cooled two-stroke engine like a Yamaha RD 350 or R5.. I also learned quite a few Kawasaki three cylinder two strokes. S1. S2.. The first year for the Three cylinder S2 Kawasaki 350, the crankshaft had four main bearings allowing the crankshaft on the drive side to flex and burn the rod thrust washers within5,000 miles..The Kawasaki 350 and 400 triples were very interesting and fast and good handlers on the road race tracks, but they could not survive a crash the way eight Yamaha RD could, so they didn’t live very long if they were Road raced in the club races.. The 500 Kawasaki triple two-stroke was one of the worst handling machines I ever saw on a race track. They all crashed, destroying the engine cases and the crankshaft. Skinny fork tubes, skinny frame tubes, skinny swingarm tubes, wire wheels.. I owned one that I got in a swap, but I didn’t even wanna ride it. I sold it because practically everyone knew that they were horrible handlers and difficult to start in spite of having CDI electronic ignition. When you bought a new motorcycle back then with a two-stroke engine, the owners manual wasn’t filled with warnings like, don’t drink gasoline, the owners manual was filled with mechanical maintenance information and you got a talk to you so you could change your fouled spark plugs. They even showed you how to set the timing. In today’s manuals, they warn you about everything, and then they tell you to take the machine to the dealer for even the most basic things sometimes like checking the air pressure in your tires. someone needs to save us from the committees trying to save us.. it would be wonderful to see you two strokes again, it would be even more wonderful if they lived longer than 20,000 miles before needing a top end rebuild.. I haven’t watched this video on this two-stroke motorcycle yet..But I am pretty sure they could make two strokes that do not emit visible smoke, and that could pass EPA sniff tests. I hope they do

I love the sound ! I have just recommissioned a 12000 mile all original RD 350 B with the help of my ex RD racer friend.I am so glad I made the effort having not ridden one in the day as the bike is a joy to ride and I live near the great ocean road in Australia,it’s natural habitat !, The sound the lack of weight and that smell.Next is some lower bars,cafe seat and JL chambers I am hooked 😁

I have a Aprilia Tuono V4 now but I dont think any motorcykle will make a bigger impakt on me as my RD350LC did in 1986. 59hp/165 kg pure fun.

Great review; you go Girl !!! I have never heard of Langen in the US. It is unlikely this 2 Stroke machine can pass emissions regulations here in the States. This said, I love 2 strokes and I love female motorcyclists, so I loved this video. And... I loved (past tense) "MCN"!! I'm not sure what MCN stands for in the UK, but here in the US MCN was "Motorcycle Consumer News", a no advertising, no nonsense monthly motorcycle publication that got discontinued about 2 years ago. MCN Magazine was excellent; it had the straight information on motorcycles, clothing, gear, rides, etc.! Is there any relationship to MCN in the UK?

"MCN" stands for "Motorcycle News" . It's a weekly motorcycle paper publication here in the UK. It's been going for 25+ years.

I miss my Suzuki RG500 Gamma, that was a fun bike. Love 2-strokes! But at least I get to ride 2-stroke snowmobiles, the modern 2-stroke doesn't smoke and smell as much as the old ones, and the fuel consumption is much better. 850 E-tech twin in the snowmobile delivers around 165hp. I don't see any smoke behind the Langen either.

Now for a bike with the Rotax ETech stroker as used in the Skidoo snowmobiles. Direct injection, excellent power & economy and very clean so no arguments with the green brigade. The 800 makes 160 bhp.

A new 2T, that’s awesome.. I had both Kawasaki KR-1 and Suzuki RGV250P in the early 90s and absolutely adored them! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 🥰 Pricey though.. it costs more than all 5 of what my bikes are worth, and I’d rather have my 5 than this single bike in my garage. 🤷🏼‍♂️

It has No bottom end at all? Grew up ridimg two stroke dirt bikes and never ever experienced 1 with no bottom end. Im guessing its the insanely strict regulations you folks have over on that side of pond. Regardless i am super excited about this bike and im hoping to see one in the wild someday. Id hope it would be offered in the states. But wouldn't hold my breath

This bike is sooooooo beautiful. This is the kind of performance I'd pay for from the big manufacturers. As a limited run, AND with those gorgeous looks AND incredible performance figures, this is the only bike I've ever seen that is worth its price tag. $60,000nz+ is a lot of coin, but this bike is truly special. Great review :)
