One of my biggest criticisms of the series so far is how weird it feels to use modern rock with the context and time of the events on screen. Using music similar to this would've made the show a lot cooler imo

I discovered 1920's music in my 30's so you're on your way! Enjoy the ride! For early 1930's swing music look up Paul Whiteman - I think you'll love it! This is the music your grandparents (or great-grandparents) would have listened to on the radio in the evenings - no TV back then)

I,ve always liked Cavan O,Connor,s vocal contributions with his wonderful voice in the pre 1935 recordings he made-instantly recognisable and a sheer pleasure plus class act. He had a long life-1899-1997 and atributed a wee drop of the water of life as the reason.

A great selection although you've managed to sneak in Ray Noble's US band! Not that I'm complaining, it's a great track that I've never heard before!

Ray Noble was a British Composer and was well known and established in the UK before he moved to the US in 1934, and this recording was 1935 so I hardly think he was snuck in - He was on a lot of popular radio shows, including Edger Bergen's. He was a guest composer for the summer on some show I listened to in the early 40's. A wonderful composer and musician!

Nice selection. But I wonder if this music was actually broadcast by the BBC, who had a radio monopoly at the time? The BBC were notoriously conservative. And it was mostly live, as I understand it. They didn't play records... I've been working on music to play and sing to my 92 year old mum who has quite advanced dementia. She grew up in Nottingham from 1926 until she came to London in 1946. First I included American hits until I realised that she might not have heard them until they crossed the pond via films or covers by British artists in the Fifties. There is a video of us doing this on my KZfaq channel. The current BBC Music Memory site is here:musicmemories.bbcrewind.co.uk

Stefan, I would be surprised if they never gave any of this air time during it's era. I am sure the BBC would have at least broadcast Jack Payne and Henry Hall who both conducted the BBC Dance Orchestra for a period of time. The songs may have been live but there would have been some of these among the selections I would think. Thank you for sharing the site and for posting a comment! 🙂

@@pax41 I've only just got into this so speaking in relative ignorance, but you are right of course about Henry Hall who led the BBC Dance Orchestra from 1932 - 1937 was performing live on radio a lot. I'd love to see his playlist if it survives. Again you're right about Payne and I see from Wikipedia (!) he was regularly on the BBC radio from 1925 until he was succeeded by Hall. Yeh, and they probably played all the hits that were not too 'hot'! We played my old mum Hall's 'Teddy Bears Picnic' which has a great arrangement I thought. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrJjZZyosdLZj4k.html

I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED IF IT WERE POSSIBLE TO RECREATE THIS ORIGINAL SOUND, TODAY ? IT WOULD HAVE TO BE THE EXACT INSTRUMENT'S OF THE ERA, AND STUDIO SET-UP I GUESS, AND , RECORDING EQUIPMENT. I'D LOVE SOMEONE TO TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE.

@@rylandlangan Well the vinyl industry is healthy, cd and tapes are also selected and preferred mediums. All I want to know is how and where to buy.

They are on the older posts when KZfaq was having issues with others downloading videos and uploading on a different channel. I used it to discourage that practice and to help identify the re-uploads.
