I hope Ashlyn Shade understands what an outstanding season she provided as a freshman. Shade's shot didn't hit as much as normal in the last few games.. but her defense was outstanding and her ball movement on offense was consistent and reliable. Circumstances being what they were, Ashlyn and KK, even Ice and Q found ways to help given their limited experience. I hope all the freshmen understand just how much they helped the team this season and how much the fans appreciate it!

Ajae Petty from Kentucky would be a good add for some experience in the front court. All the good parts they have the only one with any real experience is Aubrey Griffin. Amari Deberry needs to be encouraged to enter the transfer portal. Gino has made it clear that he is not going to play her.

I am so glad Sarah Strong will be a Husky, you can hear the Big East groan at the announcement. It looks like we will have a ton of talent next year, but I think we will miss Nika. Last night it was Nika's team; the scratching and clawing, the fight the team showed is all Nika. It's a very different team when she leaves the floor, and I hope that they keep that fight in her absence. Will be a fun season.

My son called me and I am still shocked!!! I'm so glad even though I was one who didn't want her to come to UCONN. But, it's so painful to think about A. Edwards and NIKA leaving! Boo-hoo! I think this is terrific! We need some to play in the paint where Aaliyah used to play. And Sarah Strong is so talented. I watched her this week in the MacDonald's gig. And, she can shoot and she's seems open to learning new positions if needed. How exciting! As I also say, if you want ot just play basketball go to any place other than UCONN. If you want to try to win a National Championship, it's UCONN. Sarah looks so happy in that clip where she announced. And, I could see her Father smiling in the background.

So why decide today so close to last nights heartbreaker. Could the class that Gino, Paige , Ailliyah and Nika showed in the post game press conference have something to do with it? Paige not taking the bait from the press trying to blame ref call for loss. “ Player’s win games. Ref’s don’t win games. I could have done more “. Class act guys. Strong is a three-way shooter at the power 4 positions. Edwards played the 5, but is really a 4, and Dorka played the 5. Jana will play the 5 with either Brady or Strong at the 4. Strong is a better shooter than Edwards, and if she develops Strong will be Edwards 2.0. Ziebell had a great showing at last week's McDonald's All-American game (.13 pts). I also said the game was won at the foul line, UConn 3/4 Iowa 10/14 the foul line attempts allowed Iowa to stay close and eventually win the game. By any measure, UConn had a great season!.

Even without Strong they're still getting top recruits. They already had the #4 and #18 coming in, and now Strong. I'm not saying this is you, but everyone kept acting like Uconn is slipping in the last couple of years, but that's really not the case. It's all about the parody we're starting to see in the women's game. And even with that, getting to the final four every season other than last year shows how good of a coach Gino is. And last season they didn't have Paige so for me they get a pass. And now with Strong, and if Fudd is back, this team is gonna be a monster.

They lacked it b/c of injuries. Geno has actually formulated great rosters the last 2 years that have absolutely hampered by injuries. This year El Alfy 6'5 would have seen a ton of time & the staff was very excited how well she was doing in practices when she entered early spring semester 2023. Patterson 6'3 also would have given then rebounding, she can jump thru the roof, her offensive game needs refining, but would be a rebounder that could get put backs & clean up the defense boards. Brady missing last year hurt her development. Fudd & Ducharme have been constant hospital ward patients. How good would last years team have been with Paige, Senechal, Fudd, Edwards, Juhasz as starting 5, off the bench Muhl, Ducharme, Griffin, Brady. This year would have been great also with health. Even with the poor health, if just Griffin had not gone down in January they beat Iowa easily, Iowa would have nobody to stop Griffin from her slashing/driving to the rim, along with her quickness and leaping to get offensive/defense rebounds. Even w/o her they should have won if Paige played better & Aliyah didn't blow several lay ups & bunnies.

Have to see if there is any portal movement but my initial thoughts are Amari, Ines, Patterson and Q may be looking at portal. Ash and KK are going to have to adjust to not playing 30+ MPG especially if Cheli and Ziebell can contribute right away and even more so if UConn is interested in Chen and she comes over. To me a player of Chen quality is not coming here to play 10MPG. Jana like Ice has missed a whole season of development and she will have to adjust as Ice had to. Griffin I read in one article will not be seen until Jan which means it will take her a few games to get her legs back. I still hope that Caroline can come back and if she does she can be a force. Seems like many of you have forgotten she carried this team for a while. (only if she is healthy, she must have made progress or she would not have traveled with the team). Azzi has a lot to prove yet so she will be determined. Again have to wait till portal closes but I envision Paige, Azzi, Strong, Caroline and either Ice/Jana. Many options, but also many questions. I believe portal closes 1 May, that's the first step. 2nd step and a big key IMO is Caroline.

The problem with that illegal screen call is there were tons of fouls during the game the refs did NOT call. So, that last call destroyed the entire game. Those refs did not deserve to get a paycheck. The NCAA has to clean up their ref problem.
@grobble8954

Womens refs have always been horrible, from 2000 to 2016 UConn was just winning by some much usually, all the BS calls didn't matter. Post 2016 after the run of 4 NC's not only did UConn have less margin for error, but they were labelled bad for the game, NCAA & refs weren't going to let UConn win for awhile..ie...2017, 2018. 2019... 2017 Miss St final 4 was a complete shaft job, 2018 & 2019 also had a slew of bad calls all against UConn in the final 4 (mystery fouls against & clear hacks & blatant holding of UConn players). The known premise among coaches was you can beat UConn(ie...foul, hold-disrupt the motion offense, etc..) up & you will not be called b/c refs don't respect the players likethey did Stewie, Moriah, Tuck. Case in point, last year Senechal was hammered & held all year. SC game she was coming off screens & the defender constantly would have hand full of jersey keeping her from the curl. That's why Geno finally went ballistic & got the technical in that game.

UConn could still have spots & be in the portal looking for a senior or grad transfer forward, as all the forwards on the roster will be first or second year players(Deberry doesn't count). 1)With NIL you can essentially have your NIL Collective fund the tuition, expenses, etc...for someone though they aren't on scholarship. They would be classified as a walk on. 2)There are certain people that are never going to play at UConn and should transfer, if they ever want to see the court.....Deberry & Bettencourt. Ajae Petty leaving KY, is the best upperclassmen big in the portal thus far. 3)Samuels could transfer, as she got little time in the tourney, despite being pretty short handed. UConn is adding Freshmen guards Ziebell & Cheli. Fudd hopefully will be healthy, already putting up shots in light workouts, Ducharme being back is more questionable as her neurological issues are a puzzle. Griffin will be back. All these people are essentially her competition for playing time, along with Shade.

As difficult as the offensive foul was to see, we have to realize that sport is made up of human beings who are flawed. We have seen questionable officiating calls in every sport, on every level, and we have to be okay with this reality. Sometimes the call is in your favor, and you support it, and sometimes it is not, and you lament it. But, we have to accept that it is all part of sports. Also, the truth is, if participants find themselves in the situation where a questionable call can happen, it probably could have been avoided by performing better earlier. The referees are trained to make the best, quickest calls in a split second based on what they believe they see. If you have ever tried it, you know how challenging it is.

Did see her interview; she does appear to possess a positive attitude; she didn't make any ridiculous promises; appears she will put her head down and go to work; the more difficult the practices, the better the games will be.

We couldn't of beaten SC with all the injured players . They had too much size. The would of neutralized Aaleya. Nobody could do anything with Cardoso and the other big players. Ash and Paige would be trying to guard players 5 to 6 inches taller. Uconn should be proud of how far they got. They did this with 4 starters playing out of position. They did this even though they were undersized. They had starters that had not developed their complete skills yet. Nika and KK were not the best at scoring consistently. Nika has to be wide open to score. KK can get through the guard defense but has trouble beating the post defense. A pull up floater from 6 to 8 1feet away Is all she needs to improve her game substantially. Ash mostly needs some breaks. You can see her shot fall short and it's mostly from tired legs. Paige just needs a break. About 3 to 4 minutes a half. She gets tired. They all do.Except KK. Ice still needs to improve on her positioning. She gets blocked out of the rebounds. Then she just reaches to try to tap the ball instead of getting the rebound. Aaleya struggled with outside shooting but everything else was great. Q needs to get stronger and I think we might see her make a big improvement after a years experience. We didn't have Jana to play against big centers. We didn't have Azzi to help with scoring from the outside and to pull the defense out. We didn't have Aubrey who can fix any problem that comes up on defense and some on offense. We had a team this year that had to play big minutes, had to guard players with a big size advantage. Had to play against teams that were well rested because they had full rosters available. They had to avoid foul trouble with their starters. 2 big reasons for this year's team's success. 1 - their defense morphed into the best defense in the country. 2 - they believed in each other and their coaches. I feel they took that belief to another level. It would have been easy to just look to next year when all the injured players come back. Just work on getting the freshmen ready. But, Geno and the seniors weren't having any of that! My point here is to say that this group is a bunch of overachievers. They ignored their flaws. They remained positive no matter what. Next year Uconn can make moves to adapt to each game.

I know its fun and passes the time, but y'all may want to wait until at least 1 May when the portal closes, ( I think its 1 May) before penciling in a starting 5 and the rotation. Some of these players have a decision to make and IMO it's not just Amari and Ines as everyone seems to be targeting. Still shocked Strong chose UConn.

@grobble8954
@grobble8954 3 ай бұрын
That's no battle...It's Fudd 100% when she tells Geno she's ready. There are plenty of battles for other starting spots, as the only guarantees are Paige & Azzi, maybe KK if Geno wants to pay Paige off the ball like this year, which I don't like b/c she tends to be passive too much when she's not the primary handler like she was freshmen year. However, Ducharme was slated a starter to begin the 2023-24 season. Griffin could also start depending on the line up formulation & if she doesn't she will be getting a lot of time, like this year before the ACL. She has the athleticism, quickness, defense, etc..that has changed some games when she was healthy in previous years....ie TN, Forward spots completely up for grabs: - Brady showed sporatic stuff. -Patterson showed little her 1 healthy year, -El Alfy Geno was very high on She was getting stuff when she enrolled early & she looked good in the international tournament where she was injured, -Strong could very well be a starter too as nobody has "shown out"

@@grobble8954Good analysis. I can’t believe it took me 12 hours to regain my optimism. Last night was tough. Tough to lose on a questionable foul. Tough that the foul calls all seemed to go Iowa’s way. Guy wrenching loss. The good news is that no one is beating S Carolina this year.

The best ability is availability. Fudd has been MIA for nearly two thirds of her career beginning in high school. The last injuries were non-contact. She will not start. Even when she plays with limited minutes, everyone will hold their breath, waiting for the next/last injury; sad, but true. Nobody should look past the obvious.

lastonestanding...ALL of the players (except transfers) come from high school. In the years that we won 11 National Championships, all of those players came from High School. So? How do you think UCONN has won so many National Championships? They got players from High School because there was no where else to get them! Da? UCONN and the players who come here expect to change into great players and win National Championships. If not, go somewhere else.

Lol...Chen will not be at UConn. Don't know why anybody thinks they need a guard period, not to mention a slow one, mediocre defender from the ivy league. If Geno wants to play Paige off the ball, Arnold will be running point. However, Paige at point is the best option, she's naturally passive & this forces her to have the ball more. Also, if healthy Fudd & Ducharme start.

UCONN went undefeated going into the Final 4. But lost in the Final 4 both years. In 1997, UCONN was undefeated entering the tournament, but lost in the elite 8. MONEY TALKS AND BULLSHEET WALKS...🏀 01:00 This would be funny. Sarah opens her jacket. But has a "clown college" sweatshirt over the UCONN sweatshirt. While everyone is looking at "Clown College". She removes that sweatshirt to unveil the UCONN Huskies sweatshirt.
