Region 3697 erupted with an M6.1-class solar flare at 15:06 UTC (June 6). We're waiting for SOHO coronagraph images to confirm any associated CME with this flare. The active region will remain a threat for solar flares above the M5.0 threshold while it rotates across the southwest quadrant.
R2 (Strong) Radio Blackout
Radiation from the flare caused a shortwave radio blackout over South and Central America, East USA, Canada, North and South Atlantic.
No Earth directed coronal mass ejections were observed in coronagraph imagery over the past few days. NOAA forecasters say there is a 20% chance of an X-flare on June 6.
