Bring Change to Mind

9 жыл бұрын

Bring Change 2 Mind, in partnership with Brandon Marshall’s Project 375, launched #StrongerThanStigma to raise awareness around the unique challenges that men face when discussing mental health, to encourage open dialogue, and to promote help seeking behavior.
#StrongerThanStigma features four inspirational male figures from professional sports leagues, television, and the music industry who have made mental health advocacy a part of their platform. These headliners are Brandon Marshall, NFL All-Pro wide receiver for the New York Jets; Ben Scrivens, NHL goalie for the Montreal Canadiens; Michael Angelakos, lead singer of indietronica band Passion Pit; and Wayne Brady, comedian and actor. Each shares his story, and encourages men to start the conversation and end the stigma.
Brandon Marshall is an All-Pro wide receiver for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). A physically gifted player, Brandon holds two of the top three single game reception records. He also lives with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). In 2011, Brandon made the decision to use his story to encourage others suffering in silence to seek treatment. To further their message, Brandon and his wife, Michi, who holds a B.A in Psychology and a B.S in Criminal Justice, formed The Brandon Marshall Foundation, now called Project 375, a non-profit organization committed to raising awareness through education, support, research, and treatment funding.

Brandon Marshall has always been a player I enjoyed watching on the field, regardless of the team he was on, he is that good. The reputation he had for a long time always felt misguided to me and when I first heard about some of the things he was dealing with I believed there was more than just him being a diva. Hearing about his stay in Boston and the outpatient program he attended confirmed all that. This was such a big step for him as a football player, as a man and as a black man because of the huge stigma attached to mental health issues in society as a whole, in the sports world and in the black community. we don't talk about these things nearly as much as we should and we need more people like Brandon to use their platform for causes like these. Initially, people advised him not to go public with his diagnosis because of what others might say and/or think about him if they knew, but he did it anyway because it is a matter of life and death and it is bigger than him. every time he speaks up, he saves lives, every time he wears his lime green cleats, he saves lives. Keep up the great work, Brandon!

Love this man. Seeing his documentary 10 years ago changed my life. I reached out to him on Twitter and he instantly responded. Grateful that people like him speak up against the stigma and share their stories.

It would be great if regular people told their friends and family and they didn’t leave. I’m not famous. I don’t get people that love and accept me for this. I get left behind over and over again. Guess you’re lucky to have supportive people. Not everyone is that lucky.

The people in your life lack compassion...they're probably gaslighting you they're most likely narcissistic & can't empathize with you...borderlines are the scapegoat in toxic families.

Surround yourself with better people...true friends wont judge you ....most ppl with Bpd have never had a friend who understood them. That's what everyone wants.

@@jennifermaxine2453 Nobody is judging people with bpd. Family and friends get tired when you're not seeking to get help. You're not responsible for having the disease, however, you are responsible for getting help. People hang in there with you until it begins to affect their well-being. You want to be loved? Be the best you that you can be to receive it...you all have some responsibility too. (First and foremost)

@@gaybrickhouse7576They most certainly are being stigmatized & judged...You can't generalize all people with Bpd, it's like PTSD, so would you say the same thing to a war veteran? ...btw shame for judging victims of domestic violence & psychological abuse...people with BPD are all very different. Tired of narrow minded people like you.

They were probably narcissistic, so essentially they weren't good for you & you had that gut feeling they would betray you at some point....those types make you feel accountable & guilty 4 everything...you you pushed them away as an unconscious defense mechanism...you should be proud of yourself, cause I bet they were passive aggressive or emotionally/psychologically abusive & gaslit you wihout your awareness......& then your instincts picked up on it.. x I say good for you...you defended yourself when no one else would...nothing to feel ashamed about. x & you are not the problem....you are just a gaslighting victim...which is subtle & hard to detect...

@XxgEt-sScOpedxX There's no medication that is made specifically for BPD. Most people with it try different combos of meds, antidepressants, antianxiety, mood stabilizers, etc. The point is he is speaking out to be another person that breaks the stigma of mental illness.

Q and A Why am I still here? It's 3 am I've been sitting here for 2 hours already, losing my mind in the bathroom Losing my mind to my mental illness, Searching and searching for answers but all I can find is questions, Questions and hatred, That's eupd, But maybe less of the questions and more of the hatred God why I am still here? I can still make it I can still sleep But I'm addicted to learning about how much of a monster I am, Addicted to the idea of finally understanding who I am. All I need to do is stop, Put in down and go to sleep, But I won't. Not until I've hurt myself enough Not until the knife in every comment finds its mark Not untill the undertow takes hold and drags me deep into an ocean of guilt, shame and selfhatred on the bathroom floor. Why here? Why this disorder? Why me? Because I deserve it Because I was bad Because I hurt people Because I'm sick Because I'm in pain Because I need help Because I never wanted this Because I wanted to be better Because I tried to tell them Because I deserved better, Because we deserved better.

Even if he has money, that doesn't gaurentee he gets the emotional support he needs...if he's Bpd he can substitute it with external things...& means he is a survivor of narcissistic abuse, which we know know emotional abuse causes the disorder.....in a way...but you're right, he does have access to things us less fortunate do not....I'm just glad he's breaking the stigma & shedding light on a disorder that has been ignored , gender & racially stimgatized, (used to be labelled a disorder only females have) & full of disinformation, misogyny, misandry, stereotypes & scapegoating & labeling...by our incompetent mental health community.

Anyone can struggle with their mental health, we live in a broken world. But calling someone a joke just because they're successful, is uncalled for. Yes, he probably has access to more resources because of his fame, but look what he is using his fame for: to help break the stigma surrounding mental illness. It's really unfair to call someone names just because they have wealth or fame. People with BPD suffer deeply at times and money doesn't just take that pain away, idc who you are.
