Bring Change to Mind

9 жыл бұрын

Bring Change 2 Mind, in partnership with Brandon Marshall’s Project 375, launched #StrongerThanStigma to raise awareness around the unique challenges that men face when discussing mental health, to encourage open dialogue, and to promote help seeking behavior.
#StrongerThanStigma features four inspirational male figures from professional sports leagues, television, and the music industry who have made mental health advocacy a part of their platform. These headliners are Brandon Marshall, NFL All-Pro wide receiver for the New York Jets; Ben Scrivens, NHL goalie for the Montreal Canadiens; Michael Angelakos, lead singer of indietronica band Passion Pit; and Wayne Brady, comedian and actor. Each shares his story, and encourages men to start the conversation and end the stigma.
Wayne Brady is an award-winning actor, singer, comedian, and television personality. During 2014, a year that marked his 1,001st episode as the host of Let's Make a Deal and his second season on the revival of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Wayne experienced a breakdown on his 42nd Birthday that inspired him to speak publicly for the first time about his Depression. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner, he detailed his secret battle and the stigma that had prevented him from speaking up sooner. Since identifying these barriers that kept him from seeking help, Wayne is using his story to inspire others to start talking about mental health.

Thank you so much for standing up! For helping end the stigma! I know so many men who bottled up inside. I know I'm a woman but I know the courage it takes to tell the world and the relief you feel once you do.

💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 You’re a HERO to millions that have hid their depression/anxiety. You’re showing men and women that they don’t have to be ashamed to speak out and get help. You were already so beloved by millions, this candidness and vulnerability has made you all the more lovable. Just like you, Robin Williams loss was the catalyst for me to acknowledge and admit I was battling depression and anxiety. I still cry to this day thinking about the cruelty of his loss. Although there was more to his death than depression as he was also facing Diffuse Lewy Body Dementia/Parkinson’s. A man with such a quick wit couldn’t bear that journey. I’ve never been so emotional over the passing of a “celebrity”, but I related to him on so many levels. I always thought of him as a kind and tortured soul, battling. I see that same look in the eyes of Wayne. My deepest hope is for continued healthy mental health for Wayne and the millions that struggle. Much peace, love, health and happiness. 💟☮️🕊🌻 #MentalHealthAwareness #StopTheStigma 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

When are people with mental illnesses going to be accepted. We've come so far on acceptance of other subjects related to human beings differences our society has come pretty far. Accept for this subject. I have to say I feel beaten down by family, friends and my own psychiatrist because no one wants to hear the pain inside. I struggle daily mostly with ptsd but depression and anxiety as well and I feel like no one cares really cares. All these organizations start up to stand up for mental health issues but none seem to sustain the lack of attention. If you look at any youtube video about mental health the # of views is heartbreaking. People are so afraid of the unknown. What about the millions we are losing to suicide because they feel there is nowhere to turn. There's no pain like losing a family member that way. It's debilitating and life altering.

I cried when I found out that Wayne has depression because I care about him as a fan and as a person who understands completely. I felt like that before and I used those exact words. I actually hanged out with my brother's friend who has such crippling depression, he can't go to school anymore. Once I met him, all those feelings came back. All I wanted to do was say some magic word and make him feel okay. But it doesn't work that way. When I had depression, I didn't enjoy the things I used to enjoy, but yet I still did them and for me it helped. It took a good bit of time, but it helped. I don't know if that will help anyone else, but it's worth a shot. Do the things you love and don't let those negative, depressing thoughts get into your mind. Push them out. And just trust me when I say I understand.

20 years fighting it: Cost me a music career, friends and "friends", relationships, jobs.... Wondering at what point fighting it and fighting on turns from admirable bravery into stupidity and cowardice?

+bobspez I'm glad for and envious of you. :) I've got some decades of PTSD causing events to muddle thru tho so I'm not optimistic. I do notice that when I catch a break, I do power up but it's been 15 years of some realllly tough slogs and head shots. Cheers.

+bobspez Had 2 panic attacks in my life. Those fuckerz I can skip for sure! "the root of depression is fear of death" That's DEF not my problem! lol! I have z-e-r-o problems with that and have basically zero fear of pain. Actually what I've been thru, has apparently granted me a stupidly high threshold to pain. So there's 1 positive! I came up with quote: "It's mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." For me the big ish, I think, is finding an 'off' switch upstairs. No luck yet.

I think Robin Williams killing himself is what made Wayne Brady speak out about this.
