Today I'm going to be making and sublimating new products to help grow my small business and I will also be talking about how I have already failed my new years goals only 2 weeks into the new years and my thoughts on it.
I'm very excited to be sharing these new products! They were so fun to make and I finally have my first products for convention artist alleys!

Abi I’ve been watching you for a long while now and I admire you and I want to give you one last piece of advice before I just shut up about this. There’s a difference between fan art and just copying an image. Yes, people sell fan art of licensed characters but if you look carefully and if the artist is smart it’s still considered original artwork. Now the chances of lawsuit happening is small for you but there’s still a possibility. It happens and I don’t think you have hundreds of thousands of dollars. Think of it from artist perspective too, if you had original and you were making all kinds of off of it and then one day someone tells you ‘hey look at this, someone stole your art’ and made money off of it you would be upset. Maybe the best thing for you is to stay away from Pinterest. I had this problem with Pinterest too, scrolling through all of this beautiful art trying to figure out what to make and I got lost in it. Keep practicing original art, take the time to really focus on originality. Take a step back and study art once you have the foundation solid you can thrive in this business. I say this with love and I hope you succeed.

Hi Abi, if it helps you out, you can not produce items, merchandise, stationery, anything with someone's else/another company's designs on. Yes some people produce Starbucks, Disney, etc etc stuff and they are breaking the law, so be carefull. Unless you have bought a commercial licence from said company to use their intellectual property then you do not have permission to copy or replicate someone else designs, logos, characters etc, stick to designing your own unique stuff, your style/creativity is what people want and why they buy from you ❤ Their are many videos on intellectual property and copyright if you want to investigate further. Keep designing and making vlogs you are fabulous!!!!!!

A lot of company's have their licenses posted or you can send an email to ask. Some companies will let u sell their product as lost as it is respectful to the band and u make less the x% profit. Some allow u to make stuff but then they can steal your work and/or can cancel their license at any time. Nintendo and Disney are known for going after people. Ur etsy shop can get permenetly banned for copyright items.

@@HayleyXLunasopal are u talking about steam boat willy? Disney is still pressing charges and sending out cese and disist letters and taking people to court even thought that version of micky is in public domain. Soot sprites belong to a Japanese company, Disney licensed them from that company and has the USA rights to it, if I'm not mistaken. Disney has a large team of lawyers even if they are in the wrong. Also it doesn't have to be just for someone on etsy to flag content as copy right material and have ur shop removed, unfortunately, especially if that flag comes from a large company like Disney. Or are u talking about something else? Did Disney change their fan art for profit policy?

I feel like the copyright laws are not up to date and old ways of thinking, like tattoo artists make a living of copying other people characters and they are praised but it's not okay to make stardew valley stickers ? Like, where else are you gonna buy soot sprites coaster if not in convention ? It's not like these companies are selling official merch for you to buy, so why would they be suing you ? Even tho you are totally right and lawful in what you say, it still doesn't make any sense to me !

When I tell you a pressing pillow changed my life - I mean it! When sublimating hard products, I use a pressing pillow underneath so that I can get better even pressure every single time - honestly I recommend it ASAP! Xx

Also - I’m not sure where you currently get your products but Mackie Direct is THE one stop shop for all sublimation wholesale - their mugs also come in smashproof boxes which you can send directly to a customer. Personally I use the smashproof box and then pop it in a pink mailing bag which keeps it waterproof and for a business is a much cheaper way than using boxes inside boxes plus having void fill too. Hope this helps! X

I have a box scoring tool which means I can just resize a box if needed! It's just like a metal pinwheel which you can run alongside a ruler to create a new fold in each side of the box, cut off the excess and you've got a smaller box!

30:57 I know😅 packaging takes up so much room and there are sooooo many to choose from and then if they get discontinued you have to start over 😅😊

Stardew anything is trademarked, it's not legal or ethical to use it. It's like if someone did an artist alley and used all your stuff. How would you feel? Yeah, cons won't hassle you, but it's with you and your conscience whether you take other's copyright because "you love it" and on top of that make bucks out of it

(I should follow your example and actually sit down and do my products! For the coasters, I wonder if when the company said 180 they meant Celsius which is 400 Fahrenheit. That happens to me sometimes when I sub new products. I have to remember to convert the temp.

You probably need a proper heat press to get the right pressure, those ones don’t given even pressure. As you’re pressing down I can see you rocking the heat press slightly!

Love watching your vlogs! You're doing really great! And I like your positivity even when things don't go to plan! I wanted to ask you a question as I've noticed on a video you have a similar printer to mine. What card stock you're using for making cards? I tried making cards on my printer (Epson 2850) but it makes ridges where the rollers catch the thicker papers and I'm just going bonkers trying to figure it out. Can you help me out and give some advice??

Why not reframe your goal as APPLY TO more places where you can open shops? Because you did all the bits you could control, applied. Sometimes rewriting goals into something realistic is much better for the brain! And keeping Shopify on the list to revisit around September/October means it's not "failed", it';s appropriately scheduled!
