FTTWTE felt complete because they had different ideas and used them all to the maximum. Almost every song on this album feels completely different. The new album feels like an in-between to me. Like Architects took their favourite style from the last album (Animals and An Ordinary Extinction), put it in a blender and made an album out of it.

This album really feels like their first foray into developing a newer sound and for whatever reason it felt half-baked to me. Not that spending endless time in the studio is the answer but I think if they're looking to grow stylistically their next album will probably hit the mark. Plenty of good songs on this album, but nothing that's made me stop and have a moment like FTTWTE. Still a brave effort and trying to not just make the same album over and over is difficult.

I understand that a lot of ppl don't like when a band rly differs from their bread & butter with their core sound but honestly imo as long as they don't totally derail from wut they know they're capable of as a band & are able to introduce new/different aspects & concoct a cool new type of sound thru an album then honestly it's not that bad to me. And personally, I fucking love this album front to back it's rly well thought out & it's a whole separate vibe from everything else they've done. But as with any album of theirs, I do have my personal favorites. From 1 to 5, my faves are Deep Fake, When We Were Young, A New Moral Ground, Tear Gas & Be Very Afraid.

I’m a huge architects fan. I didn’t have high expectations coming into this album because the singles were pretty mid to me. However, having listened to it, I’m not upset as I expected to be. As an artist myself (3D artist), I admire what they did. They knew many people would hate this album but made it anyways as a genuine expression from where they’re at in life. That is ultimately what being an artist is about. It’s not just about making music others will like or even making something insanely innovative believe it or not. I agree some parts are boring, but many people have been overreacting. It’s not a bad album. It’s just a different hard rock sound which many of us metal heads typically find boring. Maybe a 6/10 for me but the people saying “this is just sad” should put themselves in the bands shoes for a second. It’s a period of growth and change. I’m sure they expect it to be difficult finding exactly what type of music they want to make right now. They are not stupid. Im sure they know they can’t fully live up to the expectations of Holy Hell and AGHAU. They likely even accept they’ll never top those in many peoples eyes. I’m sure they’ll make more A grade bangers over the years too. It’s just a totally different phase of life for them now. They probably feel a strong urge to make something entirely different from their old records for many reasons and I can’t blame them. I agree the lyrics aren’t as great as they used to be. The album could have used more time in my opinion. Some songs are close to being great but just miss the chefs touch. All things considered, it’s a decent hard rock album with a couple highlights and very genuine message behind it. People are acting like it’s fucking Parkway Drives new album which just isn’t the case lol. That shit is actually comically bad.

@@abandon4 I don't remember them saying it was their best album yet, could you give me a source of them saying that? Also, Animals being their best song yet is completely subjective. They have their own opinions, and everyone else has theirs. I personally don't agree with it, but just because they think that doesn't mean they're in denial. I'm sure they know their new style is nothing like their old style, but they're really enjoying it, and it's nice to know that they're enjoying themselves. They've even said before, that after Holy Hell, they'll only ever make music for themselves, not for anyone else. They don't owe anyone anything, let them do their thing. Also, saying "They know nothing" is extremely ignorant. They've been doing this for well over a decade, they know their shit 😂

The writing just feels very hard rock bleh. We can't be stopped, we won't give up, we're so tough, nothing will stop us lyrics. Drums all sound the same and just keep a basic groove, guitars are the same, really basic rhythm and generic solo's if there are any. There's maybe a handful of moments in some tracks that you're like "finally!" then it's back to just hazing out waiting for something to keep your attention and after so far into the album when something does mix things up it's too late cause you're just glazed over

Being a huge fan for many years now the thing that disappointed and pissed me off is their day before release statement damage controlling this thing, saying they are too old for "angry music" and metalcore is exactly that, however Dan proceeds to post this a few days back: "other than the singles the album is classic metalcore". I really trusted these guys but it feels completely opposite of genuine, from the lazy artwork, using Cevini once again drowning the mix, making it complete static and times and Sam's voice in oversaturation effects and what not, lazy 3 riffs the whole album (trying to be objective as possible as a guitar player myself) , 9 out of 11 songs with the 2-step drumming 0 variation and/or accents. After holy hell I totally get why they changed direction. Without Tom, they were gonna shift directions one way or the other. And for all of you that hated FTTWTE, that album was top of a few charts, and this one might do the same. If you look at this as a concept album with the name implied, it's pretty easy to see that this album is meant to be "dull" and "empty". I mean, they were twins, but it is OBVIOUS that Dan isn't Tom and it makes me sad that ppl don't accept the change. Holy Hell is a masterpiece, but we feel in it the weight of Tom's loss. Now the lads want to evolve and go further : why isn't it okay ? Their others albums are very pessimistics and they are 8 (FFTWTE is different). It's like Thornhill and their big change from The Dark Pool to Heroine : if you want another Holy Hell or All our gods..., juste listen to it ! Music evolves as the ppl. I don't say TCSOABS is a masterpiece cause its not. But I respect the choices of the lads, and this album is still very enjoyable. Not depressing as the others btw. Elaboration, I feel like the album has a pattern of complexity and simplicity through the songs that goes up and down and can seem more scattered and random than it might actually be. Personally the songs "burn down my house" and "born again pessimist" really hit for me because of things happening in my life. Just making connections like that in music is what I look for. I feel like everyone can connect to the song doomscrolling lately 💀

i really enjoyed this personally, I get what bogdan means by it doesnt feel like a story album its just aton of songs existing. I got into architects at ftwwte so I dont have an attachment to their older sound much snd overall love mostly anything theu do and idk i just love the overall vibe and feel of this album even if its pretty short. I just hope Architects enjoyed what they made tbh, people say its "uninspired" but its the oppisite, they were inspired and just wanted to do things they had not fully embraced anymore

You can tell some of Toms influence was left in Holy Hell, because since then its been downhill. Same flat passionless vocals. Look at the raw grittyness of vocals on songs like early grave, broken cross, hollow crown etc now its just flat radio rock.

You know what, I thought exactly the same thing and couldn't understand the shift towards the generic over the last two albums. However, if you go and see them play the new stuff live it instantly makes more sense! This album especially seems to be geared toward the live performance, potentially at the expense of the record itself. It's just a theory though, the true test will be at the O2 next month with Biffy Clyro and I cannot wait! I'll make sure to report back my findings from the pit 😉.

I think the problem is that all the songs sound very much the same. You can click anywhere in the video and it'll sound the same 9/10 times. It gets very boring very quickly. The other problem is the 2nd song in the album is messy and really drives the attention down because you spend so much time trying to figure it out instead of enjoying it. It really needed a good "just listen and enjoy" song on the second track and more variety in sound beyond that. they literally just sound like Three Days Grace over the last decade.

I have very mixed opinions about that synthy sounding guitar lead that just coats this entire album. It works on the title track but it comes off as diet BMTH or Bad Omens for the majority of the songs. It's like they can't decide if they want to go for a more synthy atmospheric sound or stay metalcore out of fear of offending the core metal fans, and that indecisiveness really shows on this record

As a big fan of architects this album isn’t it for me. The singles was okay and outside of the singles be very afraid was the only other song that i kinda liked. The lyrics to me for the album seems very generic now and the songs starts blinding together sound wise and it felt like a long listen where i was ready for it to be over with so i can listen to the other releases of that week. Out of the past three albums: Holy Hell was a master piece that (that for me at Least) a long time fan can enjoy, FTTWTE was a fun little experiment album with some quirks of songs that wasn’t to good imo, and this is just feels like a one time listen album for me.

It's not, and I'm tired of people pretending their new music is somehow an evolution of their older stuff. People like to throw around terms like how their sound has "matured"....like no, I'm not going to pretend pop rock is an evolution of music. It's the opposite. It's watered down, bland and generic. It's objectively less creative. And it's fine if someone likes that, that's not the problem. I'm just so sick of people acting like they're "evolving" as a band.
