Hello, for you folks who ask, is there a difference between Rapid Set mortar mix and Rapid Set Eisenwall plaster? Yes, there is a difference. The main one is adding water; the other is adding sand. They also sell Rapid set stucco, which I encourage folks to buy rather than the Rapid set Mortar mix.
These rapid-set stuccos can be bought at Home Depot or lowes, except the Eisenwall stucco.
FYI, Eisenwall is only sold at plastering yards, plus you have to add your own sand to it.
How much sand? We mixed the sand with every part of the hydraulic cement plaster three times.
However, suppose you DIY plastering weekend warriors want a similar, much more user-friendly product. In that case, they also make their sister product sold at all Home Depot, Lowes, and other hardware stores called “rapid set Stucco.” Rapid set stucco is sold in 10 or 25-pound boxes or 50 to 94-pound bags. This you mix with water.

No, we add the sand, however it home owner version does, it’s called “Rapid Set” sold at all HD and Lowe’s stores.

Yeah-- i was thinking eisenwall is rapidset cement all? I use cementall as a accelerator with other concretes with great success. Mortar mix works well for that purpose as well but you're buying some sand as well. So if I just want accelerant I use cement all a shovel full mixed in with one bag of concrete really helps it set faster. Not sure if that is kosher. I used eisenwahl before and I didn't mix in sand which might explain why it seemed to me like it set as fast as cementall. @@StuccoPlastering

@ That does indeed work, I too don't know if it's kosher, It's kinda like adding a handful of Portland cement to Structo-Lite, it does accelerate it. I prefer Limnite as my accelerator personally. It's only sold at "plastering Materials Yards such as Westside"

The Eisenwal is more like RapidSet CementAll, that is you can add sand to your content whereas the RapidSet Mortar mix has sand already mixed in. I like RapidSets products and use them quite a bit adding sand or other aggregate, retarder, or plasticizer to make it flow better without added water. RapidSet actually came out of the military, the USAF, with combat engineer and runway repairs needing a fast high strength fix to get planes landing and taking off quicker than standard cement products allowed. Like the videos and information provided and just figured I’d throw my 2¢ in.

I appericiate your advice very much, thank you. My cousin gave me the 3 to 1 ratio mix and does stucco for a living but this helped clarify what he was saying.

Hey Kirk. Great videos, thanks! I'm doing some slab repair work and building it out so my sheathing (and weep screed) will be flush with the foundation. I decided to use the CTS Rapid Set Mortar Mix. They recommend using 3-5 quarts per 55lb bag and when use those proportions it comes out very stiff and hard to work with and no where near as wet what you are showing in this video. Are you using more water than they recommend or an i just not mixing it long enough? Also should I apply Weld-Crete with the Mortar Mix?

Evening Kate, your working with a fast set mix, we use Eisenenwall often but we mix with our own sand and water, the rapid set mortar mixes are usually mixed one at a time thus it's tough to keep a constancy unless pre measured and use have a hod carrier. I would recommend a quick mix less than 4 minutes and with the right amount of water as this is a timed cement plaster, even mixing take practice. We never add a bonding agent with our mortar mix, Instead we apply the bonder on the wall for best results, FYI. there is one bonding agent that use can mix with mortar it's used instead of water, I believe it's sika based bonding agent, however I have not used it Cheers, Kirk and Jason giordano’s plastering videosi

ya went to set the corner block 5 mins later it set up...spend more wetting it down.. tossing the mix starting over...did smaller portion and set 2 concrete block and back to mixing a new batch.....crazy waste of time

Kirk I wonder if I should put MORTAR MIX on the walls on the side of the stairs. The sides of the stairs are made of cement board with mash. So I just wana redo the old cement or what ever was put on. I cant really tell. Either way I cleaned off the old cement so now I'm just deciding what to put on. I will redo the top of the stairs, stairs them self and the walls around the stairs. Inside the stairs is hollow just wood joist supporting the whole stairs. I though MORTAR MIX was for the walls of the stairs, CEMENT ALL for the stairs and there is another rapid cement type for top of the stairs. I know your busy Kirk. Thank you.

Evening Crypto Dude, granted you must be done by this time, I answer question's when they arrive. This is months late. however, I would have recommended Rapid set stucco for the walls and cement all for the stairs, "Rapid sets Cement All," is for quick fixes where the need for concrete has to set in less than an hour for say as an example, holes in roads or bridges at it sets really fast with the highest strength or record. In the video you recommend not using Eisenwall unless you're a professional. What do you think about the Rapid Set Stucco Mix though, which also has the Eisenwall logo on it? Is that appropriate for the do-it-yourself crowd? Any tips on using it successfully? www.ctscement.com/rapid-set-stucco-mix

Evening Justin, Eisenwall professional cement plaster and rapid set cement plaster are one of the same company. The Rapid set is sold at all the major hardware stores where homeowner frequent often looking for a product for fast repairs, hence "Rapid Set" A person just adds water, Important note, as with all fast set stuccos and mortars don't mix over 3 to 5 minutes this beats up the integrity of the strength. Afternoon MrTruthislight, the word mortar can mean plaster, stucco but we in the trades just say mud. Render is another word for plastering, meaning you apply plaster or you render plaster. Both of these products in this video are a cement plaster and yes they can be used for grout too. Grout mud is usually a common cement which is strong but does not spread that well. I use a mix of common and plastic sold at westside building materials Its called lehigh's premium cement plaster. (in the green Bags) However, the bags at your local hardware store will also work as long as it's portland cement for stucco most of these bags have the sand already added, you just add water. There are some of these products that can't be mixed for more than 3 to 5 minutes so read the package, closely. best wishes, Kirk and Jason's DIY plastering tips

Morning MrTruthislight dude, Render is a word in the UK that means stucco and or plaster. Mortar is a word that is used in all trades that means render, plaster, cement plaster, mud, stucco, most folks recognize the word mortar for the grout for bricks and of cinderblocks. I use portland cement plaster mixed with sand myself. However if you have a small project and wish a quick fix go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the rapid set products, these bags have the sand already in them. They say they are hydraulic simply because they add some chemicals mainly accelerators so they set fast when water is added, Don't over mix any same day materials or this over mixing will weaken these materials, No Joke. FYI, Rapid Set Cement Cement is far from the only same day cement plaster, any and all of these same day cement plasters Can Not be mixed more than 3 to 5 minutes, or the Cement Plaster will be weak! I've always used concrete to make animal pools for my exotic livestock but we have a lot more flexibility with these types of products... are they safe for drinking water once cured?

Why this Mortar Mix after u mix him they start to get hard after couple seconds and they need to be mixed again i don’t understand that buddy I like this product mortar mix here in Pa, but they start to be herd after some seconds

Howdy Daniel Dude, yea, the Mortar mix and all the rest of the rapid set cement harden really fast. Too fast to explain all the details in such a quick video, I do tell folks to buy the rapid set stucco rather than the Rapid set mortar mix.🥳
