I’ve seen some people disagree with playing supporters or defenders and while it is true that you can climb easier with carries, if you are STUCK in rank and playing a carry then you are not playing the right Pokémon for you.

Id also note that statistically, if youre one of the lowest picks, playing one of these supportive roles is gonna net your team the advantage. Yes you might feel like you should be masters 2000+, but whats to say your teammates arent supposed to be there too, so trusting in the elo system to be somewhat correct is gonna go a long way. (Only shame there is, that duos always get pushed up to the top, so having the lowest elo player in the lobby fail at jungling because you thought they'd be high elo sucks)

I guess I’m trying to say in the most supportive and constructive way possible… if you aren’t carrying and climbing relatively easy it’s time to get back to learning the mechanics and leave the greninja to your allies.

My only disagreement would be dura. Probably the only beginner friendly mon, that allows for easy items and lane secures while allowing you to do dmg with a minimally challenging moveset. Considering everything right now revolves around a flip meta (another point not really talked about in the video) Dura is a strong lane pick for allowing you to secure end game objectives.

Another good tip: if you're losing a lot, stop playing, don't keep playing until you win, specially if you are not very patient. When you're stressed and angry you're more likely to make bad decisions and take bad fights and wrongfully blame teammates for things you did
@Snewbew

More times than I can count I saw teammates trying to force unwinnable fights on objectives and goals and getting really angry that the team didn't follow up and doing early surrender votes. Sometimes you gotta play back and catch up for the final fight

I think another thing that wasn't mentioned but is equally important is to practice! I'm an Eldegoss main and I have had lots of matches with it but I still have misjudgements especially when I try to secure Rayquaza/Zapdos, so knowing the character inside out helps a lot. Also, coming from my personal experiences as a solo q Supporter/Defender main, I agree that people should know about these roles more and how they work so when they transition to being the carry, they will become mindful of the Supporters and Defenders of the team. However, since it is solo q, it's a very frustrating process to climb with these mons. It frustrates me sometimes that there are people ignoring these mons and tries to carry on their own. I mean go for it but what happens when you get killed? At the end of the day, many Supporter/Defender mons can't carry the games on our own. They need to enable someone to carry the team for them. Thanks for this video, Spragels! I hope this sheds some light to other players, especially the ones who don't show up to Rayquaza. I'm looking at all of the solo q backcappers 💀

I agree wholeheartedly. That said, not all supporters/defenders are built the same!! Having played all of them, Clefable is pretty garbage right now. There are several very good reasons it's had the second lowest win rate since the updates. When Clef came out the novelty caught people off guard and yes, gravity was pretty mean against certain carry mons (especially Charizard lol) but that is no longer the case. Gravity was "fixed" so now it's meh, and follow me barely works. That leaves the healing, which Clefable can do OK but nowhere near Blissey levels. Add the fact that that Blissey has way higher HP, def, and sp def, and there is really *_ZERO_* reason to play Clefable at the moment. So, yes, practice is very important, but do not waste time with pokemon that are useless. Also, keep current on updates!!

Really nice video, Jake. And honestly, that was what worked for me. I started playing in season 1, but I didn't know anything about this type of game, like held itens, farm, rotate, synergy and so on. I started playing Talon and Venu and boy... getting behind was tough to come back. I stressed so much and ended in Ultra rank that season. In S2, I got to Masters learning the game basics (itens, but most important, rotation and farm) and started to try to fill empty roles in my team, playing Eldegoss and Slowbro (AMAZING choices that fill in any team even now and easy to use). Of course, there are games that your carries just simply won't do their jobs and it's gonna be frustrating, but if you learn those roles right, you can make a lot of them look like beasts when at your side.

Switched to Azu when my team looked weak early-game 3. Stopped trying to save teammates and defend goals when I was obviously outmatched 4. Farmed more, fought less I learned a ton from spragels, inder, toonslim, and stevemycat and playing smarter makes a huge difference!

One thing that helps me when I get hard stuck at various rank levels is hard focusing on team comp; I only play solo queue so every single team is obvs different. If three players are playing special attack types, I go with an attack type mon - if three people are playing ranged, I go with a melee, etc. It can help. Only thing is that it means I have to know quite a few different mon - and that's okay with me because I like learning new things! It feels good to review my playable mon roster and know I've become more proficient with all of them. Also, I regularly review and fine-tune my boost emblem comps - a few times when hard stuck, I revamped my emblems and that also helped.
@charles703g
@charles703g Жыл бұрын
The biggest thing i see is team comp. if your team already has 2 squishies dont pick another one. Also dont pick healers if your team is squishy. Think about if your team already has ranged attackers then pick a melee. Stick together with your team. And dont keep going to fight just to keep getting KO’d. If your team isnt helping then go farm or push with them.

Another thing to notice when watching the minimap for wild Pokémon spawns are the spawns on the other sides of the map. During times in the match between objectives or after taking an objective while the other team is distracted their are times when you can steal A lot of exp from the other team by KOing their wild Pokémon. Most people don’t watch the minimap and go for exp as soon as it spawns so this is easily abused.

@SwiggleMcJiggle
@SwiggleMcJiggle Жыл бұрын
Simple but best advice I can give is to push early in the season, as hard as possible. The longer you're stuck down there, the worse it gets, because your mates get progressively worse. Also learn to carry, it is absolutely necessary in lower ranks, because half the time you can't rely on others when it comes to rotating etc. Edit: I'd actually disagree with playing Support in Solo Que down there, because the lower ranks are dominated by highly selfish players who often don't even know how to make use of the openings which Supporters and Defenders provide. It's great if you happen to come across decent players, but if your attackers simply suck and you're playing a unit which can only really work with a mate at its side, then you are fucked for the duration of that match. A great Blissey isn't going to do much if the offensive units can't get shit done.

The items I run on basically every pokemon are Muscle band (lv30), Focus band (lv30), Score shield (lv30). Focus band has got me more K/Os in this game than any attack items ever could I swear. Muscle band with auto attack speed is just great in general with most pokemon. Score shield lets you score when people drop on you and gives you a decent amount of hp at level 30. I only play like 2 special attackers, which are wigglytuff and glaceon which the muscle band attack speed and extra damage on autos helps a lot. I personally recommend Wigglytuff for climbing. That pokemon is so broken when used properly and helping your team get the K/Os with sing.

Very informative. Interestingly I find I need to play carry Pokemon in the lower ranks at the start of the season, in Veteran etc then once I get to Masters to keep winning I start playing Defenders or Supporters. I think this is because of how my level fits into that of my fellow players, at the lowers ranks it seems I'll generally be one of the better players on the team but then at Masters with more skillful players I can't have as big of an impact using a carry Pokemon and feel like I am more effective/win more with a supporting Pokemon and leaving the carrying to better players.

I also like the idea of playing range instead of melee and focusing on never dying. Ranged Pokémon can still perform as intended when staying out of the heat of fights. It also forces you to be aware of what is happening off screen, since your attacks are almost flying off screen if playing range correctly.

Just started Unite a few weeks ago, and Eldegoss is definitely a very great Pokemon. Maybe because I’m used playing support in other MOBA, but currently I still have that 100% winrate with her.

Stuck in vet too. Since I start playing unite, I've been using attackers and I noticed too that most of the time I have lose streak using it. I've start to become a supporter when I first try wiggly and blissey. What I hate about solo queues sometimes is that there are team mates who are not responding to calls. They also steal the exp, like I've been hitting it for a long time then they last hit it. It annoys me cause they don't let me level up. I only experienced to have a good team mates once. That even tho we lose I didn't feel that we failed, it was the intense game I've ever experienced. I'm currently not playing, and uninstalled the game due to the lose streak hahahah

I made it to masters 1600 playing 95% of the time support / defender in solo que (playing pikachu when there where too many defenders / supporters in the team already). So it definitly works! I personally like to play solo to rank up as with a 2-3 stack I tend to loose much more as the opposing team also will have the same 2-3 stack which feels like it is much better coordinated most of the time.

WTF 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?' which is the original quote in Latin for "who watches the watchmen" and is my life Motto atm. Was not expecting it as a throwaway intro joke haha. Anyway, I'm not really hard stuck, slowly climbing out getting 1-2 wins here and there with the odd loss. I've been mostly maining Venasaur and occasionally playing Zacian with some success. I use your Venasaur build and it's really helped me secure a lot of kills. Petal dance is a must. Either way this video has been really interesting and informative.

Another thing that happens in vet-ultra a lot, at least for me, is teams always try to get Rayquaza even when they don't need to and end up losing the objective. Should the winning team be trying to defend Rayquaza in this situation if the team that is behind is trying to secure it?

I think this video is pretty solid even though I think it doesn't really apply to everyone. See, I'm a good support/tank player, and I've always achieved masters every previous season. However, last season and especially current season have proved really really tough for me. Once I reach masters 1200, working my way up to 1500 is usually not a big deal. But beating Vet and Ultra is getting increasingly difficult. I mostly lean on supporters and tanks 'cause other players pick carries but thy can't play them, and supp/tank roles always need someone to fill them up. but eventually I end up supporting inxperienced players. Something clicked when I decided to revolve to picking up carries, mostly ttar and dura. and while maybe my micro is not excellent as it is with Slowbro or Eldegod, it is often better than those of casuals. And pairing that with my decent understanding of macro, I've been able to slowly make progress. I have friends in my discord server who found themself in the same situation. So, to sum up, I think that your advice is good and solid for new-ish player; however, If you're a seasoned player who used to always reach masters and now can't anymore, maybe they're not the way to go. but again, thanks for the video which I think is really good! Stay cool and Yeehaw!

I dedicated myself to master Tsareena while climbing and 2 seasons ago I ended up stuck in Ultra 4 and 3, last season I started to try and branch out with different pokemon like Eldegoss, Blastoise, Greninja, Scizor and Venusaur but still only managed to get into Ultra 2 and 1 and can't for the life of me hit Veteran after 3-4 weeks playing. Now, this season, I started to only just playing Slowbro, and play the other characters in a different game modes if I get bored and I'm currently Veteran 3, and hope to climb to master. I recently gotten Mr Mime and currently try to see whether I'm confident enough to also use it to climb the rank

The Watchmen joke has a pun. It's funny. Part 1: I agree with a lot of the stuff Jake says. I think the last time I got stuck on Ultra, Krashy made a video about winrate and positive impact. Basically the message was about "being solid and basic" I am currently stuck between 1400-1450, so might heed towards this advice and go back to basics, I suppose. 0:52 Jake: MOBA is quite difficult. Me: Wow that's a relief. I thought all the people in Pokemon Unite are smarter and more able than me. Thank you Jake, for validating that I am not a dumb and crazy person. 1:20 I do all of that, but on casual mode as experiments. Part 2: Also this is my tip for other people who don't know, during mon selection if you are the lowest in your team roster bars, that means the people above you usually have a better experience of carrying the game. Vice versa applies. 2:27 Here are my thoughts on the Pokemon listed and how I feel about them: Venusaur: I struggle with it Blastoise: struggle Pikachu: struggle Clefable: not available Wigglytuff: pretty good consistently Machamp: not available, but gained more recent respect as time grow, most likely will buy it in near future Slowbro: struggle very hard Blissey: struggle super hard (surprise!) Mr Mime: struggle, but willing to learn more about it Snorlax: struggle very hard (mere roadbloack/meat shield during unite, so struggle most during unite) Azumarill: super struggle (surprise again!) Mamoswine: heavily favored but performance is in between (usually need a second defender to safely peel, so didn't play it as much recently) Glaceon: needs significant practice, but can see the potential in mastering it Crustle: theoretically can master it (non-goal getter version btw), but needs significant practice Trevenant: pretty decent sometimes but not running horn leech (nightmarish like Mamo's Horsepower move, the self CC is too scary to deal with, I am not dealing with that) Hoopa: not available Eldegoss: struggle super hard (surprise surprise) (surprisingly fan favorites Blissey, Azu and Elde I struggled with the most, especially Azu and Elde's design are my most hated, only comfortable with Mamo, Wiggly and Glaceon) 5:07 Jake: Stacking is advanced. Me: Thank you Jake. I tend to being criticized for not playing stacking. I am just not used to stacking stuff. Too much to worry. I tend to get distracted to finish basics when I worry about other stuff. Part 3: I feel like Defenders and Supporters in nature their damage is way too low to be even somewhat aggressive during fights, like you need to be completely passive, and if some random in your team mess up, you unbeknowingly took the hit despite not deterring the team, so in my belief, I feel like Jake recommending purely Defenders/Supporters is not the best advice. Most of the time it works, but playing any all rounder also works well, especially if enemies fight you without you provoking them, you can at least fight back. I usually watch helplessly as Slowbro but at least Aegi gives me a lot of breathing room. Aegislash: Favorite all rounder, stole Ray thrice, also unlike Defenders/Supporters, gives breathing room to fight back. Cramorant: Took a strange liking, personal highest damage record (65k in winter remoat). Part 4: My personal belief is rotating between All-Rounder/Supporters depending on team comp, while occasionally throwing Defenders in the mix if another random wants to play Defender as well. But you know, as long as you are contributing, anything works in Unite I suppose.

As a Defender main, THANK YOU for recommending newbies against playing Attackers. Climbing Ranked was hell this season for me because of the horrid insta-lock Attackers/Speedsters who would end up having less damage and kills than me as Mamoswine. Not joking, I had a 5-loss streak as Mamoswine where I was the MVP every single time. I have definitely won with 4 Attackers/Speedsters on my team before but those people knew the limitations and strengths of their characters inside out, had excellent macro game and map awareness and showed up at every objective. I get it, every one wants to be the main character - but if you don’t understand how to carry a game using your role, please, for the love of god, play something more forgiving. Your Defenders/Supporters want to help you, but you make it hard you don’t understand your power spikes. If I sound dramatic, it’s because my Ranked win rate for this season is downright embarrassing. Maining Defender while trying to climb in the late season in solo queue is literal hell.

The biggest issue I have playing only defenders and supports is that everyone ignores the free exp Pokemon on our side of that map and it takes so long for me to do it, so I'm never sure if I should be clearing them or sticking with the team. Or maybe just stay away from things like Blissey that are especially awful at clearing?

Great points, I would add that some games are literally unwinnable and that's okay. Being a high rank doesn't guarantee that you're a great player and being low rank doesn't always mean you're bad, don't take losses personally, take breaks and enjoy the game. Watch videos to get better and be open to feedback.

So I have been making Scyther in the center and it's rough. I do have a good win rate but I think it's kinda what you mentioned, people like to play attackers and Scyther is an assassin who pops attackers. Committing to an engagement with x attack, double jump, wing beat, wing beat dash, reactivate ult does a ridiculous amount of damage. I cannot do that to big chungus like slow bro, Snorlax or mamoswine and they just ruin engagement for me. Two thing I'm working on for myself. Don't under estimate how painful it is to gap close as a melee on a ranged character especially since most of them have a way to either push you back or dodge back. Finally don't underestimate the slow down when you dive past a goal. I don't know how many times a squishy character runs away or kites and kills me because I hit that slow down and I lose what seems like half my movement speed. Good luck and have fun to all! Remember it's a game and if you're not having fun it's not worth your time! Yeehaw !

I was struggling to get out of expert a couple months ago. I just came back in October after not playing since last september. I was playing Cramorant, who was a good pokemon at launch. I didn't realize it was nerfed so much So then I swapped to Mew. And I did great! I have 60%+ win rate with it. But I just couldn't climb any higher than veteran despite playing Mew really well. When Mew got double nerfed, I swapped to Mammoswine. And BOY was it a game changer. In master 1000 right now, and I have a 67% win rate with Mammo right now. Just feels like it was made for me I've picked up a couple other characters like Dodrio, Scyther, and Clefable. Scyther is at 62% win rate, Dodrio is 56%, Clefable is 55%. Dodrio and Clefable feel *too* team reliant, at least Scyther and Mammo can rock it without team support. Hopefully Mew can make a comeback though, I miss it dearly. It's just not good in its current state I'll send this video to some friends of mine!

I kinda disagree in playing supporter in Vet and Expert rank. I am a support main btw in every game that I play but I decided to change my role since I notice a lot of players who suck as a carry in low elo, and it was hard for me to rank up as a support, whether it's on my team or the enemy. Which is why I decided to switch roles like speedster and attacker so that I could stomp them and climb by way to master. Which works.

At the very low ranks and in bot matches, playing a healer is rough. I can't tell you the amount of times I've had allies basically kiting me while I'm trying to give them an egg. Just come close, let me heal you, then we can 2 v 1 the enemy. Why are you running? Why are you running? Fortunately, once you hit Ultra, those players drop off considerably.

I recently started playing Comfey. Makes my teammate a beast, lets me heal and stun, and removes me from being a hard target. Started to win games again and broke into the next tier while also letting me learn how other people play (and how not to play) dps units. Downside is some players seem to think having me on them makes them able to initiate a 1v2/3 while low hp. I mean, nice that they have the confidence in me but please don't get us killed. If my partner dies then 9 out of 10 times my brittle ass isn't going to survive the 2+ very angry 'mons looking to rearrange my flowers.

I'm always scoring when rayquaza spawns but I play sableye so what should I do at rayquaza anyways? Steal it? I actually did that. I play knock off but I simply do not understand shadow sneak. I just went to rayquaza after I scored 100 points, saw how how low its HP was and I was thinking "it would be funny to steal it" and it worked. Another time I used confuse ray on an enemy and he just killed rayquaza HOWEVER, if a pokémon that I confused kills a wild pokémon or a Player of the enemy team it counts as my kill.
