And I have seen schools that encourage this as it's seen as a skill. It can also be a part of a business workshop that some schools provide too. Literally, no problem. I know my father's school did when he was younger. The schools had tuck shops, so why not let students do provide the same service and earn some money? They would make their own little signs and that.

To be fair, although it may not be the healthiest option selling sweets, I quite like the initiative these kids have. Seeing a gap in the market and developing a strategy to fill it, only for the teachers to come along and pull it down. If I ran a school, I'd offer an environment to help teach and nurture the kids minds who are selling these sweets. Offer somewhere safe like a classroom to sell them in and teach them about all aspects of business. You could even set up multiple classrooms or desks to teach the kids about business competition and try to encourage them to sell healthier alternatives too, such as fruit. Call it an extra curricular activity and tie learning into something that the kids are clearly enjoying. Just goes to show that kids can clearly think in a way that stumps teachers, and it's quite sad to see such initiative and out of the box thinking be shot down by some 40 year old woman. Additionally, at 4:47 when the teacher says 'if we catch you doing dodgy stuff again' she kind of makes it sound like he's dealing class A drugs to the kids, not sweets and pop. She clearly knew he wasn't dealing drugs however she made it out as if he was. How sad to see such a narrow mindset that's focused on hindering the potential of students, rather than encouraging and nurturing it. Just goes to show that schools were never designed as a learning environment, they were designed as an environment to produce workers who tow the line and don't deviate from instructions. Straight from the classroom to the factory floor.

Selling sweets is banned because the school can't ensure the kids haven't tampered with the products, or that anyone has any sort of allergies to these products. I personally think the restrictions are a bit over the top, and that they should put trust into the kids to manage them themselves. Developing a business interest is much more important than teaching kids compliance in my opinion, knowing the fundamentals of business will get you a lot further in life.

why is this being banned? Its brilliant! their shutting in down innovative and clever children who are doing something so harmless but so skilful. These are literally the business men and women of the future. If they are worried they might move to drugs, this is the perfect time to support and encourage them in their interest for selling and teach them about how they can pursue it in a legal and bigger way.

I remember back in Year 7, me and some friends (mostly just them) would run down to the nearby Dollar store and buy some packs of sweets and other items to sell back to students at the school. Sometimes we would receive specific requests that costed extra.
