Thanks for the video. I've got this system, but was going back and forth on whether or not to add rods for support. I appreciated seeing your experience with them. If that ends up being a problem down the line, I'm thinking I might reroll my paper onto a piece of PVC pipe.

You answered a lot of questions with this video, especially about the rod for backgrounds that don't have a paper core. One question I have is - what continuous light did you have to light the background? Thanks.

For this video I was using the aputure LS 1s led panel with color gels. These days I use the nova p300c and two 60c which are full rgb panels so I can really dial in branding colors etc for clients

Hi, thank you for sharing this video, I have a question, at minute 16:32, on the upper left corner, I see you have the plastic support around the gear in a vertical position, I was thinking of doing that, but it is not posible, unless I open up the chain (mine is the metal one) to insert it that way. Otherwise, when I install all 3 rolls in there, the chains rub agaisnt the square plastic support, any help or advice you could share? Thanks again for sharing this video

I'm using this the varidrive system with 3 individual hooks mounted to my ceiling (for white, gray, and black savage rolls). Glad to hear the plastic chain is better then the metal since it was cheaper. MY PROBLEM: I have 1 roll that is so difficult to turn that I keep breaking links on the plastic chain. (They didn't all come the same length, and now they are more uneven, but I don't really care.) Do you know what I need to adjust to make it roll more easily? And also I didn't know Savage made a leader bar - I definitely need those!

First; make sure that both ends of the varidrive are even outside of the wall mount, if they are twisted but a several degrees, then that could be why you have resistance. Second; I definitely recommend the leaderbar for your issue as well as it does the best job of evenly spreading the weight across the roll so it moves up and down more evenly. Hope that helps.

I just got my varidrive system with the metal chains a few days ago and for some reason my white backdrop keeps unwinding once i reach a certain length with it. Its so frustrating. Is there a reason why it keeps doing that

So it could have something to do with how the roll is sitting in the mount. I’d recommend loosening the varidrive, rotating both sides by 180 degrees and see if that helps.
