Sometimes I asked about various bits of gear or whatever, so if you've ever wondered what my bedroom looks like, what picks I use, what strings I use, what straps I use, what I see when I'm recording....Well. This should cover that?

Actually, this is one of my favorite studio tours. I did a short video on this where all the people that inspired me upgraded everything to such a point they were no longer relatable. This is very relatable and the music quality is the focus. Please, John, don't fall in into the trap of slick production and lose your core audience. This is far more inspiring than other unobtainable setups.

Hey Jonathan - thank you so much for doing this. Always love behind the scene footage. What i highly appreciate is how you give an example how you can put out high quality content with a reasonable technical Equipment focused on making music and great content. and i love the look of your videos keep up the good work

I have always watched your videos for the playing and content, both are fantastic! Your video production is just fine by me and your recording production is top-notch. It's wonderful to see that one does not need a massive recording studio to produce fantastic music. Again, John, thank you for all your videos! You inspire me to play more.

'Best' Studio Tour Ever. I will echo Rob'Webb's comments that this is not 'unobtainium' and you have a great workflow with a nice selection of very functional gear. I also love the English term 'plinth'. I came across that noun reading Alistair Reynolds for the first time and took me a little bit to figure out what it was!

I honestly think that the image is maybe more important than you think. Your level at guitar playing commands a cleaner/ more professionnal background/ lighting. More people will subscribe, more companies will take you seriously. I been following you for years, it would be a nice change to get rid of the unrelated stuff/ dark wall behind. Your talent needs an equivalent image.

Great video! Probably the most apt video for me at present. I am pretty much in a position to start, my only concern has been my PC, which works fine for recording in Reaper, but haven’t tried two cameras on it yet. Good PC’s, for our purposes, cost an arm, a leg and a kidney over here. Just a question on your video processing and edit programs. Do you use OBS Studio and Davinci Resolve, or just resolve? I don’t know if one will cover all requirements and, if so, which is the better one and user friendly for a 60 year old boomer? Thanks. PS: I will never get that “golden light/reflection” or shower. My face breaks mirrors and cameras…

After seeing your recording station, I think it explains some of the heavy low end build up I hear in some of your videos. I think you have a room mode or 2 with that. Rules of thumb FWIW: try and avoid having your speakers up against walls and especially in corners. Also, no room treatment that I can see? But ya, I think you could tweak that monitoring environment. Cheers.

I have a question. I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and this intro I think was my favorite tone and guitar I’ve heard. It just sounded like you were both connecting to the instrument and the guitar and you were just getting out of the way and letting the music happen. I know tone is subjective and you go through lots of guitars, amps, and models… but to me it sounds like you stumbled upon your sound? I’d hire that sound! I didn’t make out what amp or model you were using for this and how I can download it if it is a model. Thanks! Great video and great sound and best of wishes to you and your wife and new little one on the way!

Hello John, your going to have to baby proof your room, once the baby is up and running you can't stop them from exploring every inch of your house not joking, hangers on walls, shelves start half way up the wall, they carnt reach till there about 5ish, you don't want to get upset with the baby at any time, teach them to only go in the room when you're there , always make it fun. And remember don't ever get upset, even if it's your favourite guitar or amp or anything else, you should have moved it it's not baby's fault, hopefully you'll have some good and funny stories to tell. I'm already laughing, good luck Djk.

Maybe the "worst ever studio tour video" by some arbitrary standard, but lots of useful info here, esp. about productivity hacks, so thanks for sharing this! Re: the camera, I've owned a few Panasonic Lumix cameras, so when I heard you mention a "Sony Lumix" it got me intrigued. But maybe you meant to say "Panasonic" (the DMC GX800 is a Panasonic camera). I'm a nearly complete noob at video, but I've been considering a new camera, and have learned that as much as many folks love Panasonics (I've liked mine!), many hate their autofocus (compared to competitors). So maybe that explains some of your focus issues-apparently Panasonic uses an autofocus algorithm different from that used by Canon/Sony/etc., and it struggles if you are changing the subject distance a lot. -Tom

Thanks for the tour John. I’m looking to set up a studio. Being as I’m not a guitar player that would ever play live, would you say that plug-ins give good enough sound quality or would a modeller be better. Thanks
@NFMorley
@NFMorley Жыл бұрын
Just as an alternative option, an HX Stomp might be a good choice. It can also function as an audio interface if you prefer using pc software (or need tons of dsp capabilities) and output line level to powered monitors; plus you can swap to using it purely as a modeller if preferred. Other modellers can do similar too, so if you're costing it out then you can also do away with needing to buy a separate audio interface. They're about £450 in the UK atm, plus comes with free Helix Native, Metallurgy and one of the Cubase light versions.
@grahamg9811
@grahamg9811 Жыл бұрын
@@NFMorley Thanks for the suggestion. It’s more a question of sound quality rather than thinking about budget. My preference would be a pc with a good spec with an audio interface and use plugins. I also want to experiment with virtual instruments. I guess I could trial the plugins and get a modeller if I’m not happy with the sound quality.
@sambroxguitar
@sambroxguitar Жыл бұрын
A plus that the Stomp has over plugins is latency; you won’t have to mess with settings and buffers to be able to play right out of the box without annoying latency to put you off
